I'm Not the Hands of the Devil
Chapter 10: I Am Not the Feet of the Devil

“Luggish working day again,” sighed Lin Jie while pouring a cup of tea for himself before starting to read.

Days without business were just ordinary occurrences in Lin Jie's daily life. Three days had passed since the day Old Wil and the rich young miss had come. No customers during this period.

It was easy to forget the time with the unrelenting rainstorm outside. Only a handful of people came out to buy spare groceries in the gloomy weather that enveloped this entire city.

The rain and the gurgling of water were the only sounds on the deserted streets. The water level on the road had already risen to about ten centimeters, but fortunately, 23rd Avenue was located at a slightly higher place.

According to the news, residents of more than thirty streets in Norzin have been temporarily evacuated to other districts. Such abnormal weather only happened a few times in Norzin's history.

However, to Lin Jie, life was going as usual, the only difference was the need to wear a jacket due to the colder weather.

He didn't have to worry about food because he had three months' reserves. A backup generator meant that Lin Jie did not need to concern himself with power.

In addition, boredom is not a problem here.

It's a warehouse with all the books in the world. Lin Jie wouldn't be able to finish reading everything even if he had quantum reading speed, let alone now where he studied the books meticulously and made notes.

While Lin Jie wasn't born with a compulsive reading disorder, hoarding books a little bit has caused her to develop this habit over the years. Such a life was truly heavenly for a cruel homebody like Lin Jie.

“Ah, but it was all thanks to that dark-skinned little lady so that I could live a very little yet fulfilling life now. If it wasn't for his support of the bookstore and his help in helping me obtain an operating permit and temporary residence permit, I really don't know where I would be right now, she said, contemplate Lin Jie to himself.

As Lin Jie turned the page, he muttered in a disappointed tone, “He has not visited the store for a long time.”

All those past customers seemed like very busy people. Although their relationship was good with Lin Jie, there was a rather long period between their visits. Fixed customers like Old Wil were few and far between.

One example is his first customer, Qili, a dark-skinned young woman with snow-white hair.

Qili was in bad spirits from being bullied at school when she first wandered around in this bookstore. At that time, Lin Jie had given him advice and recommended a book—Nonviolence Communication. From then on, Lin Jie had not seen him back.

He may be busy with his studies. But given that she could immediately register my unlicensed shop and sponsor a large sum of money meant she might be a rich young miss like Ji Zhixiu.

There have been no customers in this horrendous weather over the past few days and an unknown strange entity has not resurfaced after showing its presence that day. After finally sensing his call as a transmigrant, Lin Jie started to feel like an unemployed person again.

Over the past three days, Lin Jie had dug up all of his past work and examined it. After all, with the mission of spreading his own books, Lin Jie needed to think of the best way to advocate for them.

Promoting academic work like this is an arduous task. Few people have a specialty like Old Wil. Lin Jie pondered.

A muffled bell from the bronze bell on the door suddenly sounded. Lin Jie was thinking hard and called out casually, “Welcome.”

Lin Jie closed the book and looked up, finally realizing Ji Zhixiu's arrival first came a few days before. He was a little surprised at first, but quickly put on a professional smile.

Talk about the devil. Another recurring customer showed up just as I was reminiscing about Old Wil. Isn't this just three days? Has my bookstore business finally changed for the better? This woman may very well be a bearer of good fortune, I have to nurture her properly.

Ji Zhixiu bit her lips, as she suddenly felt a wave of shame sweeping over her.

He should have solved the entire matter in one go after receiving such powerful guidance but, here he ran back to seek help halfway through.

Am I the most useless among all “customer” - her?

He could sense that the bookstore owner was not mocking him. Instead, he showed an encouraging and concerned smile, as if trying to spur on a child.

But this caused Ji Zhixiu to feel even more miserable and embarrassed.

“I'm sorry to have let you down,” Ji Zhixiu shyly muttered as she walked over to the counter and sat down.

His attention was immediately drawn to the statue on the table, almost making him jump. Gargoyle Witch?

The evil and evil black statue was indeed the gargoyle that the witches used.

Although Ji Zhixiu did not feel the ether fluctuations coming from the gargoyle. It was as unnerving as this ordinary-looking bookshop at first. However, the owner then took out the Blood and Beast, a book full of mysteries. This bookstore must have something, it was just very well hidden.

“Bos, is this where you want to take me?” Ruen pushed the door open and entered, observing the place suspiciously. “Book store?”

His gaze then went to Lin Jie behind the table—Ordinary person?

However, he did not say it out loud and kept suspicion to himself as he paid attention to Ji Zhixiu's respectful attitude.

Only

Lin Jie was very surprised. You brought someone?

He glanced at Ji Zhixiu and asked, “This?”

Ji Zhixiu nervously gestured for Ruen to remain silent and wondered if the owner was not happy that she was carrying someone else.

“This is my subordinate. Please don't worry, he's really devoted to me, ” he replied.

Lin Jie looked at Ji Zhixiu sympathetically and nodded.

Poor, having to use the label “bakti” to introduce someone after freeing himself from the shadow of the bastard..Wait a minute, he shouldn't be so insecure if he really gives up on that bastard. Next, he says “saf has let you down”.

Lin Jie observed Ji Zhixiu a little closer and noticed the embarrassed look in his eyes.

Then, he crossed his arms and said solemnly, “You failed?”
