I'm Not the Hands of the Devil

I'm Not the Hands of the Devil
Chapter 15: I Am Not the Feet of the Devil

Former Great Radiant Knight, Joseph comes to investigate a suspicious bookstore on 23rd Avenue where “Black Scaled Faceless Man” Wilde has spent an hour inside.

Joseph had read the information regarding this bookstore before coming.

The intelligence report delivered was very detailed and thorough as it concerned a Destructive level black magician.

The background of this bookstore is clean. The owner of Lin Jie, was an out-of-town person from the Northern Highlands who set up his bookstore here three years ago. With luck, Lin Jie's vast and valuable collection of books caught the attention of the vice president of the Ash Chamber of Commerce and he was able to officially operate as a licensed business with their support.

These are all publicly recorded information within the internal department of the Ash Chamber of Commerce. The obsession with the cleanliness of the Druids and the reputation of the Ash Chamber of Commerce are two things that can no doubt be trusted.

And it seems like it is the truth. That young man, as well as every corner of the bookstore did not cause the slightest disturbance to the ether.

For a Joseph-level person, the flow of ether within the city of Norzin was very different and impossible to trick.

Joseph came to the conclusion that the young man probably knew nothing and did not have to spend too much effort to interrogate him. Moreover, it was highly unlikely that Wilde would share his personal information with this young owner so it felt like a waste of time.

Joseph had made countless mistakes like this in the past, but now, he was experienced enough to know the best way to prevent them.

Joseph had fully understood the situation and the only anomaly was this stone gargoyle.

In addition to buying or borrowing books, Wilde took an hour to leave the stone gargoyle here. Could these be coordinates …

Joseph fixed his pressing gaze on Lin Jie and tried to determine if the owner was lying. “Is this stone gargoyle yours?”

After hearing what was said, Lin Jie turned towards the stone gargoyle and shook his head in confusion. “Mm, it's a souvenir given to me by a customer.”

Does this uncle like this piece of art and want to buy it?

Ah, that's not gonna work. This souvenir given to me by Old Wil is very important.

While Lin Jie was pondering the best way to refuse, Joseph's eyes looked at the register book on the table that had not been saved and saw the familiar name.

“Frank Wilde's. He's your customer, right?” ask Yusuf.

Naturally, though, Lin Jie didn't see anything wrong and also didn't cross the mind that one could see such little words in the corner of his list with just a single glance under this dim lighting. Joseph also gave his full name Wilde.

Thus, Lin Jie became aware that this person knew Old Wil.

“Yes,” Lin Jie nodded as he became more alert and wondered if this uncle was Old Wil's enemy. Why does it seem like he came wanting revenge …

Yusuf's eyebrows are wrinkled. Why would Wilde give an ordinary person a stone gargoyle of this level?

This was definitely an archetypal stone gargoyle made by a black mage. It has incredible power, at least Pandemonium rank!

It might even be able to pose a certain level of threat to Joseph—, destroying the skin or causing him to bleed.

Moreover, he leaked his real name... No, wait a moment, maybe revealing his name was intentional?!

The initial speculation was that the bookstore was the secret headquarters of the black magicians. But now that the bookstore owner was confirmed as a commoner, the allegations no longer apply.

But if they were to treat the gargoyle as some sort of secret signal, then this place was simply a location for the black magicians to connect…

Logically speaking, didn't the process of taking revenge start with intimidation and threats, followed by an interrogation of Old Wil's whereabouts and final activity before finally silencing me after I spoke?

It doesn't look like it now. He only asked a few irrelevant questions before thinking about it himself. Can this be called revenge?

Lin Jie had to change his thinking approach. Perhaps, this uncle is Old Wil's friend?

While this uncle looked ominous at first glance, Lin Jie knew that he was not a bad person given his years of experience in observing people.

The uncle might have entered in an arrogant manner but he was careful with his actions and movements in order to not damage anything in the bookstore.

He didn't kick the door or break the counter even though he might be able to do it easily.

With this thought in mind, it seemed that this uncle was actually a cautious and gentle person.

So, Lin Jie cleared his throat and asked, “Do you happen to be, Mr Wilde's friend?”

Joseph pulled back to reality and revealed a strange smile. “Friends? …Two years ago, we had a disagreement and parted in a bad way. Recently I received information about him.”

Indeed, Lin Jie thought to himself.

Two years ago.. Wasn't that when Old Wil first came to the bookstore? Dispute with a good friend! No wonder he's in such low spirits.Haa, Old Wil isn't easy.

Living alone in this great city, having relatives who turned their backs on him and quarreling with a good friend.

But now, this uncle might have decided to take the initiative and reconcile with Old Wil. How awesome!

“Ah, so that's why. No wonder you can recognize Mr Wilde's items instantly. You guys must be close.”

Joseph replied casually while continuing to scold cunningly, “Indeed, we know each other well. You can even say that we are best friends. I never stopped looking for him these past few years.”

Only

Itching to behead Wilde and smashing his body into pieces would be a more honest description of the relationship Joseph had with Wilde …

This was almost achieved two years ago but Wilde has used some unknown method to avoid death.

Lin Jie was touched by the deep friendship the two old men had. “This is of course the enviable friendship you two have. Unfortunately, I don't have Mr Wilde.”'s address

As if you knew something about us. Joseph's lips curved. He subconsciously started chatting with the bookstore owner.

This guy's memory will be erased once I'm done. It never hurts to talk to her a little.

“Mr Wilde borrowed a book a few days ago and probably won't be back for some time. You might not get a chance to meet her that soon...Maybe you want to sit down and rest for a while?”.

Joseph looked up and found himself facing the young man's warm and friendly smile. There was even a cup of hot tea prepared for him.

“Or maybe, have a book to read?”
