I'm Not the Hands of the Devil
I'm Not the Devil's Foot Chapter 1

Chapter 1: Welcome to

Lin Jie opened the old wooden door of the bookstore as usual.

Muffled bells sounded from the bronze bells. A stream of water trickled down the door frame from above, leaving the remains in the window above the ground-covered window.

The sky became cloudy. The heavy rain outside, the specks of rain and steam created a misty curtain.

Puddles of water had piled up outside the store.

“Very heavy rain,” said Lin Jie who frowned.

He was a little irritated with his shirt and wet pants.

“The heavy rain that started last night will continue for approximately a week. The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert, which can rise to red.”.

The audio from the neighboring store's TV was quickly drowned out by the rain.

There can be no business for a bookstore under such weather

“Mendesah.”

Lin Jie took out a triangular buffer frame and wooden board from behind the door to make a simple step at the entrance before flipping the hanging sign to display “Open”.

There can't be too many customers under such weather. Looks like it will be a quiet day for the bookstore.

‘ Instead of opening such a lethargic business, why not go back to sleep? ‘This is probably what most people think.

“But what if someone gets caught in the rain without an umbrella and needs a place to wait?”

Lin Jie retrieved the book from the rented shelf before heading towards the counter. He casually turned on the warm lights along the way before putting a towel beside him. After which, he brewed two cups of hot tea before finally sitting behind the table.

He flipped the book to the last place he stopped before pushing a cup of hot tea across the table, as if giving it to a new acquaintance.

A book and a cup of hot tea.

The tools needed to warm the body and soul of a lost person.

Lin Jie took a sip from his own cup and smiled.

Indeed, he was just a good-natured romantic. Although an ordinary man, he is known by his customers as an honest man and a life mentor who is adept at handing out chicken soup.

Life should always be filled with anticipation, right?

——

The crack!

With a twist of his hand, Ji Zhixiu broke the neck of the person who was clamped in his grip. However, the battle is not over. He quickly turned around and pulled out a long knife to cut off another man's neck.

“Gur..”

The man's head fell to the ground, his eyes still wide open.

Ji Zhixiu pushed the two bodies away from him before walking out of the alley.

A pile consisting of over ten corpses was left behind him. They gradually burned and turned into ashes.

This was the result of the fight in the alley in this heavy rain.

The blood that seeped through his black formal attire during the fight dripped onto the ground, evaporating into a wisp of sharp steam that was immediately swept away by the rain.

His body temperature increased rapidly. His blood and muscles began to wriggle, painfully reminding him of the number of broken ribs.

But this is not a problem for him.

As a hunter who had dirty blood injected into his bloodstream, it only took him an hour to fully recover from such an injury.

“Time, I need time.”

He looked in front of him.

Vaguely hidden in the middle of the rain curtain was a bookstore with a dim light peering through its glass windows. Through the window, he could vaguely see a row of bookshelves.

Other than the bookstore, everything else in the area was dark.

There were many shops around, but with such heavy rain, this was the only one operating.

What was more coincidental was that it was located right across the alley where he had come out.

“Is this a coincidence or a trap?”

Ji Zhixiu did not have the luxury to stop and think things through. He believed that his fellow hunters could sniff it with their keen sense of smell, following it like a shark even in this torrential rain.

He needed to find a place to hide as soon as possible and buy enough time for him to recover.

Sneeze in!

The long blade in his hand was pulled back into his mechanism, turning into an ordinary-looking black metal stick in the blink of an eye.

Ji Zhixiu trudged towards the bookstore in the rain and pushed the door open.

The interior of the bookstore is very quiet. He stepped along with his walking stick, and it didn't take long for him to see the bookstore boss.

It was a young man sitting behind a desk, reading a book. His clothes and pants were all black.

In contrast to her dark and slightly messy hair, her skin was quite pale. His slender fingers held onto the teacup as he gently flipped the pages of the book.

There was another cup on the counter with the steam still spinning from it, but there was no one on the high bench in front of the counter.

Ji Zhixiu actually had an incredible premonition that this cup of tea and chair was prepared for him. Feeling a little strange, he quickly scanned the entire bookstore with his gaze.

That's cramped.

In addition to the full bookshelves, there were many books strewn on the floor. Half of the stairs leading to the second floor were blocked by bookshelves, and the windows were mostly covered in dust, giving a terrifying vibe.

The only source of light in this dark and damp bookstore was the lamp placed on the table, and the young man sitting behind him emitted an aura of mystery.

There's even a towel on the table…

Trickling! Trickling!

Water dripped from her drenched self. Her wet hair stuck to her neck, and her low-cut gown revealed her delicate and soft skin.

“Welcome.”

Lin Jie looked up with a warm yellow light reflected off his dark pupils.

Smiling, he pushed the hot teacup towards Ji Zhixiu. It seems that my old wait was not in vain. Rain has washed a beautiful customer into my simple bookstore.”

Completing customer aesthetics is part of good service.

Even so, the person standing in front of Lin Jie was undeniably beautiful. Despite being completely drenched, its beautiful features similar to finely sculpted carvings and ivory-white skin are still faintly visible in dim light.

He felt his wait was not in vain.

Looks like this customer needs a good heart-to-heart chat. Maybe I can make a new friend today, and maybe a regular friend too?

This is definitely not the mind of a greedy businessman, but genuine concern and goodwill!

Ji Zhixiu stared at the teacup in front of him with narrowed pupils.

“Wait a long”— this means the young man knows about it and is deliberately waiting for him?

Or could there be other motives at play?

After all, this bookstore was filled with weirdness. The coincidental timing and calm expression of this person clearly conveyed that things were not that simple.

Is that the Secret Rite Tower? Or the Union of Truth? Maybe Walpurgis' liaison?

Ji Zhixiu became even more vigilant than before. He silently moved his finger towards the button that activated the black stick mechanism. Once the young man moved, the staff would turn into a murderous blade that pierced through his skull.

“You waiting for me?” The hunter investigated.

Lin Jie replied with a friendly smile, “Ya. I always thought that destiny worked in a magical way, how it brought two strangers together in the most unexpected way.”

He pointed towards the counter and continued, “Do not hesitate to use a towel there to wipe yourself. Don't worry, it's unused. Do you want me to turn on the heater?”

Ji Zhixiu picked up the towel hesitantly and shook her head. ” It's okay. “

Taking a closer look at his customers, Lin Jie noticed his tightly furrowed brows. Referring from past experiences, he suspected that this person might face difficulties in his life. Therefore, he cleared his throat and asked, “From the looks of it, you seem to be having trouble?>
