The real war started when Bang Rafi had left for work.
"Ning, Mother's clothes are maroon color has been ironed yet?" squealing Mother.
I got out of bed after making sure Marisa was asleep. Marisa's a good and understanding baby. He will sleep soundly as long as his stomach is full and feels comfortable.
"Not yet, just washed yesterday," I replied while confirming the ties in my hair.
"Setrikain first, I want to use you!"
I went to a special room where I kept rarely used furniture that functioned as an ironing place, I took the clothes that I meant. Blouse a maroon bat model with small sequins around his arms.
Train out of the guest room wearing a sweet robe patterned patchwork, matching veil and large glasses perched on the nose bangirnya, make me lament fate, actually I am a son-in-law or babu?
I refocused the ironing, and I gave the shirt to Mom after I was sure it was really neat, smooth without any creases.
"Have you?" I asked her as I stood in front of her room.
I nodded, handed over the clothes that Mom meant and was going back to my room, but Mom pulled my arm.
"Ning, do you want to be combined?"
"No way!" I answered while throwing my hand and immediately passed from Mother's room. Once caught my tail my face reddened, her jaw hardened, but I don't care. Mother asked, and I answered according to my conscience.
In the TV room, Ratih was sitting sweetly waiting for Mom, maybe they would go shopping, or to Mother's stall which was at the market. Masabodo, I just want them to get out of my sight. My heart isn't comfortable if I keep seeing Ratih.
"Ning, here!" pinta Ratih's.
I pointed to myself for reassurance. "Me?"
"Yes, here for a moment" said Ratih as he patted the chair next to him.
"How does it feel to be a mother?" ask Ratih in a soft tone.
I don't know where Ratih's talking, but I'm trying to answer him according to my heart.
"Amazing. Nothing in this world is more than the joy of being a mother." I replied with passion, everything about Marisa is always interesting for me to tell. But, Ratih's face was down. I don't get it.
Mother came from the direction of the room with an appearance that is always shaky. If I had a sweeter attitude, surely his charm would have multiplied many times over.
"Yu, go!" take Mother. Of course to Ratih, not to me.
I followed them until they entered the Honda brio that Ratih would drive. A few seconds look fascinated at two women of different ages who are both beautiful and elegant, then realized and rubbed his face. Ah, if.
The atmosphere of the house became quiet. It's just me and Marisa. Times like this I like very much. The house is clean, and neat. No laundry and no dishes. I took a comfortable position in front of the TV and started watching the soap opera of doom on the glass screen. One thing I love about this soap opera, I am always satisfied because the evil one is sure to get the punishment. Had this happened to my life too, 'Azab-in-law tormentor son-in-law, his body would not have fit in the grave, ' my heart whispered. Unconsciously I smiled to myself.
Sometimes I envy Yayu's life. His life seems so peaceful. Living in the village, marrying people with similar habits and backgrounds makes them live in harmony without anyone feeling higher or lower.
I guess, I will be like the characters in Indonesian soap operas or Korean dramas. Village girl, school in town, working as a saleswoman, meeting rich people, getting married and living happily ever after. In fact, life is not as smooth as the cheek of the Shahrini. Marriage is not a guarantee of a happy life forever but, a new episode of life with all its challenges.
Mother and Ratih had not come home, even when Bang Rafi had been home.
"Where are you, Bang?" my many. I am also curious about the whereabouts of my mother.
"To Jakarta. Maybe he immediately stayed at the house of Aunt Rum, Ratih's mother," replied Bang Rafi. "So I called, told you," he added.
"Thank God," I replied in relief. Feel free from thieves. The thief who's after my happiness.
I urge Bang Rafi to tell me more about Ratih. The sad face I caught this morning disturbed me.
Bang Rafi told me that Aunt Rumana was a person who contributed to Mother. Since Bang Rafi's mother and father separated, Aunt Rumah who supported Mother, helped her develop the business until Mother had a clothes kiosk that served wholesale and retail with three employees.
Their relationship is tenuous when Ratih chooses to marry someone else, not Bang Rafi. Apparently, their marriage did not last long, Ratih was sentenced by doctors to have uterine abnormalities and will not have children.
Oh, it's worth it that Mom touched on honey. Mom was about to ask me to share Bang Rafi and Marisa with Ratih. It's not that easy, Esmeralda!
