That night, Adi came home with so sumringah.
"It looks like she's really happy." Ayu said as she welcomed Adi's arrival.
Adi then embraces Ayu's waist and takes her to sit in the living room and makes Ayu sit on her lap.
"Honey, we're on our honeymoon to Europe." Adi Say.
"Truly Mas?" Tanya Ayu girang's.
Adi then nodded and explained everything, that he could finally take a vacation after so much work as he did.
"Mas, I want to say something." Ayu.
"By the way." Adi Say.
"I'm sorry I just said it's the same now." Ayu felt so guilty. "Mas, I don't want to have kids yet. The day before the agreement, I've been to the midwife to ask for KB injection. It's nothing Mas, my reason is because of our status that has not been legally recognized by the state. I just don't want my son later...." Adi covered Ayu's mouth with his hand.
"Mas understand." Short Adi speech.
Previously Ayu had talked to a woman named Lina in her village about children.
"I really don't understand why people seem to think women should have children? What if a marriage fails, and always a woman trapped in childcare, lives in poverty after sacrificing her career and freedom of life, for the sake of a silly dream." Said Lina to Ayu who asked her why she did not want to have children at her age who was not young anymore.
"Forming a family may have been important for survival in the past, but it really isn't for now. This world is a mess. Bringing children into this mess is a selfish and irresponsible act" the middle-aged woman continued.
"Since childhood I really knew that under any circumstances, I didn't want to have children of my own. But I like children, and can be very close to some of my foster care, who still think of me as their mother, until their children think of me as their grandmother." Lina.
Lina enjoys teaching, and most of her work involves underprivileged children in her environment to learn.
According to Lina, as a childless woman she can focus on doing good things and being a parent to other disadvantaged children.
"My life is complete. I have given a good life to hundreds of children, not just my own life. Selfishness has nothing to do with not wanting to have children." Lina said again.
"Yes, in this case I totally agree. Being a parent to our own children does not necessarily make us better women, more than other women. But don't assume I don't like kids. Of course I love children very much. But, if I were to marry a close friend, it would seem that I would decide to put off having children, even if I didn't want to have children." Reply Ayu.
Ayu then smiled and looked towards the vast expanse of rice fields. At that time, he and Lina were indeed chatting in a reading house founded by Lina in addition to a wide expanse of rice fields.
"I'm just surprised, many people often say like this, you're not a whole woman if you don't have children. Some say who will take care of you when you are old? You don't like kids, do you? I'm sure you'll regret it later." Ayu.
"After all, we have a duty to answer questions that interfere with or tolerate irritating statements. It is our responsibility, as mothers, to be sensitive to their feelings.
We are all independent women with choices or circumstances that place us as a mother or not. Don't waste time judging each other. As women, let's support each other's choices." Lina said at length.
Lina's words that make Ayu think to postpone having a baby. Not because Ayu does not want to have children, but Ayu is still hesitant to have children, given the status of her marriage with Adi who is still betelih.
