...Happy Reading's...
...----------------...
My grandparents live in Japan. Every summer, my parents take me there on holidays to visit them.
They live in a small village and they have a large backyard.
I'm happy to play there during the summer.
When we arrived, my grandparents always welcomed me with open arms.
I'm just their granddaughter, so I feel pampered.
The last time I saw them was the summer when I was 8 years old.
As usual, my parents booked a flight to Japan and we drove from the airport to my grandparents' house.
They were happy to see me and they had a lot of small gifts to give.
My parents wanted to have some time alone, so after a few days, they took a trip to another part of Japan, leaving me in the care of my grandmother and grandfather.
One day, I was playing in the backyard. My grandparents were in the house. It was a hot summer day and I lay on the grass to rest.
I stared at the clouds and enjoyed the feeling of the soft rays of the sun and the gentle breeze. As I was about to wake up, I heard a strange sound.
"Ro ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ..."
I don't know what it is and it's hard to figure out where it's coming from.
It sounds almost like someone is making their own noise .. as if they are just saying, "Po ... Po ... Po ..." repeatedly in the voice.
I looked around, looking for a source of noise when I suddenly saw something above the tall fence that covered the backyard like a straw hat. That's where the sound comes from.
"Ro ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ..."
Then, the hat began to move, as if someone was wearing it.
The hat stopped at a small crack in the hedge and I could see faces peering through it.
It was a woman as tall as a high fence .. nearly 8 feet in height ...
I was surprised at how tall the woman was. I wonder if he's wearing egrang or some kind of big high-heeled shoe.
Then, a few seconds later, he walked away and the strange sound disappeared with him, fading into the distance.
Confused, I walked back into the house. My grandparents were in the kitchen drinking tea.
I sat at the table and after a while, I told the grandparents about what I saw.
They didn't really notice me, until I mentioned that the sound was distinctive.
"Ro ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ..."
As soon as I said that, both of them suddenly kept quiet. Grandma's eyes widened and she covered her mouth with her hands.
Grandpa's face became very serious and he grabbed my arm.
"This is very important," he said, in an intense/Serious voice.
"You should tell us exactly what it looks like... How tall is he about?"
"As high as the garden fence," I replied, beginning to feel fear.
I bombarded my grandfather with questions ...
"Where is he standing? When this happened? What the hell are you doing? Did he see you? "
I try to answer all of those questions as best I can.
Suddenly he rushed out into the hallway and did a Phonecall. I can't hear what he's saying.
I looked at my grandmother and she was shaking.
Grandpa came barging back into the room and talked to my grandmother.
"I have to go out for a while" he said. "Grandma lives here."
"What's going on, Grandpa?" Shouted me.
He looked at me with a sad expression in his eyes and said, "You've been liked by Hachishakusama."
With that, he rushed out, got into the truck and drove away.
I turned to my grandmother and carefully asked, "Who is Hachishakusama?"
"Don't worry" he replied in a trembling voice. "Grandfather will do something.
No need to worry. "
As we sat uneasily in the kitchen waiting for my grandfather to come back, he explained what had happened.
He told me there's a dangerous thing haunting our area.
They call it "Hachishakusama" because of its height.
In Japanese, "Hachishakusama" means "Eight Feet".
The last time he showed up was 15 years ago. Grandma said that anyone who saw Hachishakusama (Eight Feet) was destined to die within a few days.
It all sounds so crazy, I'm not sure what to believe.
When Grandpa came back, there was an old woman with him.
He introduces himself as "K-san" and hands over a small tangled piece of parchment (A Kind of Amulet), saying, "Here, take this and hold."
Then, he and Grandpa went upstairs to do something. I was left alone in the kitchen with my grandmother again.
I have to go to the toilet. Grandma followed me to the bathroom and wouldn't let me close the door.
I'm starting to get really scared of all this.
After a while, Grandpa and K-san took me upstairs and took me to my room.
The windows were covered in newspapers and many ancient runes had been written. There was a small bowl of salt in all four corners of the room and a small Buddha figure placed in the center of the room above the wooden box. There is also a bright blue bucket.
"Ember for what?" I asked.
"That's for piss and shit" Grandpa replied.
K-san told me to sit on the bed and said, "Soon, the sun will set, so listen carefully. You should stay in this room until tomorrow morning. You're not out under any circumstances until 07:00 tomorrow morning. Your grandmother and grandfather will not talk to you or contact you until then. Remember, don't leave room for any reason until 07:00 tomorrow morning. I'll tell your parents about what's going on. "
He spoke with a serious tone all I could do was silently nod.
"You should follow K-san's instructions," Grandpa said. " And if anything happens, pray to the Buddha. And make sure you lock this door when we leave. "
They walked into the hallway and after saying goodbye to them, I closed the door of the room and locked it.
I turned on the TV and tried to watch, but I was so nervous, I felt nauseous.
Grandma had left some snacks and rice for me, but I couldn't eat.
I felt like I was in prison and I felt very depressed and scared. I lay in bed and waited, I fell asleep.
When I woke up, it was pkul 01:00. Suddenly, I realized that something was knocking on the window.
"Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap ..."
I felt blood flowing from my face and heart beating. I tried hard to calm myself down, telling myself it was just the wind playing tricks or maybe the branches of the tree.
I turned the volume on the TV to reduce the noise. But tap tap doesn't stop at all.
That's when I heard Grandpa calling me.
"Are you okay there?" Ask. "If you're afraid you don't have to stay there alone. Grandpa can come and accompany you. "
I smiled and rushed to open the door, but then, I stopped in place.
My whole body is shivering.
It sounds like Grandpa's voice, but somehow, it's different. I don't know if it's really grandpa ...
I glanced to my left and my spine felt very cold. The salt in the bowl slowly turned black.
I backed out of the door. My whole body was trembling in fear. I fell to my knees in front of the Buddha statue and gripped the piece of parchment tightly in my hand. I began to desperately pray for help.
"Please save me from Hachishakusama" I wailed.
Then, I heard a voice outside the door:
"Ro ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ..."
The sound on the window started again. To overcome my fear of crouching in front of the Buddha statue, half-crying half-praying for the rest of the night.
I feel like it's never gonna end, but it's finally morning. The salt in all 4 bowls turned pitch-black.
I saw the clock. That's 7:30 AM. I carefully opened the door. Grandma and K-san were standing outside waiting for me. When she saw my face, Grandma cried.
"I'm so glad you're alive" he said.
I went downstairs and was surprised to see my father and mother sitting in the kitchen. Grandpa came and said,
"Quick! We've got to go. "
We went to the front door and there was a big black van waiting in the driveway. Some people from the village stood around it, pointed at me and whispered, "That's the boy."
The van was 9 and they put me in the middle, surrounded by eight people.
K-san was in the driver's seat.
The man on my left, looked at me and said, "I know you might be worried about closing your eyes. We can't see it, but you can. Don't open your eyes until we say you're safe here. "
Grandpa's car drove in front and my dad's car followed behind. When everyone was ready, our little convoy started moving.
We are quite slow, about 20km/h or maybe less.
After a while, K-san said, "This is the moment where it will be difficult," and started muttering prayers under his breath.
That's when I heard that voice.
"Ro ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ..."
I gripped onto the K-san Parchment he had given me a tight hold in hand. I kept my head down, but accidentally I peeked outside.
I saw the figure of the white dress fluttering by the wind. And move along with the van. It was Hachishakusama (Eight Feet). He was out the window, but he kept the pace to be the same as us.
Then, he suddenly leaned over and peered into the van.
"No!" I'm Surprised.
The man beside me shouted, "CLOSE YOUR EYES!"
I immediately closed my eyes as hard as possible and tightened the grip on a piece of parchment. Then the tapping began.
"Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap, Tap ..."
The sound became louder.
"Ro ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ..."
Someone knocked on the window around our car. Everyone in the van who was shocked and agitated, nervously muttered to themselves.
They could not see Hachishakusama (Eight Feet) and they could not hear his voice, but they could hear him knocking on the window.
K-san started praying harder and harder until he almost shouted. The tension in the van was unbearable.
After a while the tapping stopped and the sound disappeared.
K-san looked back at us and said, "I think we're safe now."
Everyone around me breathed a sigh of relief. The van pulled over to the side of the road and people came out. They moved me to Dad's car. My mother hugged me tightly and tears ran down her cheeks.
My grandfather and father bowed to the people and they continued their journey.
K-san came to the window and asked me to show him the piece of parchment he had given me. When I opened my hand, I saw that it was completely black.
"I think you'll be fine now" he said. "But just to be sure, hold this for a while."
He handed me a piece of bru parchment.
After that, we drove straight to the airport and Grandpa saw us safely on the plane. When we left, my parents breathed a sigh of relief.
Earlier. Last year, his friend had also been favored by Hachishakusama (Eight Feet). The boy disappeared and was never seen again.
My father said there were others who had been liked by him and lived to tell about it.
They all had to leave Japan and settle abroad. They could never return to their homeland.
He always chose children as his victims.
They say it is because children depend on their parents and family members.
This made them easier to cheat especially when she acted as their relative.
Dad says the people in the van are blood relatives, and that's why they're sitting around you and why Grandpa's driving in the front and dad's in the back.
It was all done to try and confuse Hachishakusama.
It took me a while to contact the blood relatives and we were all together, so that's why I had to be locked up in the room all night.
Dad told me that one of the little Jizo statues (which was meant to keep me from getting stuck) and it had been damaged and somehow he got away.
It makes me shiver. I was so happy when we finally got back home.
All of this happened more than 10 years ago. I haven't seen my grandparents since.
I haven't been able to set foot back there. But I always talk on the phone with my grandparents on the phone every Sunday.
For years, I tried to convince myself that it was just an Urban Legend, that everything that happened was just some complicated joke.
But sometimes, I'm not so sure.
My grandfather died two years ago. When he was ill, he would not allow me to visit him and he left strict instructions in his will that I could not attend his funeral.
It all makes me very sad.
Grandma called a few days ago. He said he had been diagnosed with cancer.
He misses me he really wants to see me one last time before he dies.
In that phone conversation I asked.
"Are you sure, Grandma?" I asked. "Is it safe?"
"It's been 10 years" he said.
"Everything that happened was a long time ago. This has all been forgotten. You're an adult now. I'm sure there won't be any problems. "
"But ... but ... what about Hachishakusama?" I said.
For a moment, there was silence on the other end of the phone.
Then, suddenly I heard that voice again on the phone saying:
"Ro ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ... Po ..."
