The trip takes only 5 days. Long car troupe, through other alternative roads designated by the army. It was through the forest, but it was somehow faster than Erica had thought. The journey was also so smooth that it made Nanda confused. Some people often joke, saying that their group is the bearer of luck so that only a few small zombies attack.
When the group finally reached the Base, the first thing that greeted their eyes was a 5-meter-tall wall peering out from the lush green trees. The wall looked thick and sturdy, gray and gloomy. Several cars were seen queuing at the iron gate that was sealed shut. Some people dressed in military clothes, with weapons in their hands, stood in front of the gate. Maintain security and always look alert on any small movements around it.
But they did not go through the door that was being blocked by many interlocutors. Their car passed through the queue, walked to the other side of the wall and reached the other gate. This iron gate was larger, gray in color with several armed soldiers watching. As soon as they saw the approaching car group, they immediately recognized. Without a doubt the iron gate was lifted, allowing the car group to enter.
The inside of the wall, showing off a wide hall. Muddy red soil becomes the base, making dirty water splashes adds to the gloom of four-wheeled vehicles. But it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the dwarves and the youth trio. They got out of the car, staring brightly at the surroundings.
The inside of Base 2 AD looks like a small countryside. On the other side, there are some tents that stand firm, as well as some wooden houses. But interestingly, there is a small plantation area. All things are made in patches. Separated and well organized. No vehicles are allowed to drive, all vehicles are parked in a special area. Luckily, their positions tend to be uphill, so it is easy to see the bottom area where almost the entire large base is visible.
I don't know how many acres this area is, but seeing it well laid out and filled with humans without zombies, makes everyone feel happy.
"Well, you first have to make an identity first," Dimas intruded the enthusiasm of the three youths, distracting this small group. "Regulations here, every visitor should be checked whether there are zombie bite marks or not. Relax, we'll just check the body whether it has scars or not. The doctors worked quickly, they could see results in thirty minutes. After making the examination, you guys should make an identity."
"Identity?" Ken parroted, confused by the last word. "Do you not need a ID?"
Dimas laughing. "Oh, that's useless. How many people have saved their ID?"
Ken clumsily heard it. Well ... who attaches importance to ID cards when in a life and death situation?
"My subordinate will escort you, he will also explain some rules," Dimas still smiled kindly, hinting a soldier to approach and obediently, the man approached their group. "You can take them to the examination and registration area, explain some rules as well."
The subordinate nodded, but then his eyes looked at the five small children who were in the group. Suddenly, the sinister and stiff-faced subordinates immediately acted friendly. Without delaying the time, the group except for Dimas and Nanda, went towards the examination area.
"Children are rarely seen" Dimas explained, looking at Nanda who had looked astonished by the behavior of some soldiers who were so friendly and as if they had never seen a child. "Yeah .. Come with me. We're going to the army area, so I'm sorry if it's going to be so stiff and boring."
Nanda smiled and shook his head. "It's okay, the important thing is that I can call Dad."
Dimas nodded, no longer making small talk and led Nanda to the only multi-storey building in the area. Grey buildings tend to be large, monotonous and not beautiful at all. More like an unfinished building when looking at walls that have not been painted or floors that are just. Moreover, this building does not have an elevator, making Nanda and Dimas have to climb the stairs just like the others.
Luckily, the building only has 8 floors. When more, Nanda could not imagine how tired people would go back and forth sending files from the ground floor to the top floor.
Some people often greeted Dimas, glanced at Nanda and occasionally teased the Army members. Nanda only smiled, while Dimas did not respond to his friend's jokes and rather rushed his guest to the 3rd floor.
"Some leaders want to meet you first before we connect the channels" Dimas said, appearing somewhat apologetic for delaying Nanda from contacting his family. But the woman just smiled and nodded. Let Dimas lead the way and lead him to a closed wooden door.
The man stopped in front of the door, before finally knocking. "Sir, Miss Nanda is here" he said.
"Lake in."
A heavy voice interrupted. Dimas unhesitatingly opened the door, entered and also allowed the person behind him to follow. Nanda silently entered, observing a room that resembled an office of a leader.
This room is simple and not too big. There is a set of sofas and tables to welcome guests, on the other hand there is an office desk and also a filing cabinet full of files. However, its bright and tidy atmosphere is enough to welcome guests. There were two old men sitting on the sofa. They looked at Nanda and Dimas, stood up and smiled looking at Nanda.
"Hello good afternoon, Nanda," one of the men in the blue uniform reached out. Nanda reflexively shook the man's hand, then took turns shaking the hand of the old man in a moss-green uniform. "How's the trip going? Uh! Please sit down."
Nanda smiled clumsily as he sat on the sofa, a pair of hazel staring alternately at the two old men who were clearly of high rank. Most likely, these two people were the owners of the base. "Before, thank you for accepting me and my family to be here" he said politely.
"Oh, it doesn't matter at all, it just so happens that Dimas's entourage also has to return to Base because it's done with the mission, so they also take you, too" said the man in blue. "Right, we haven't introduced ourselves. I am Wira Admaja, and this is my representative, Junaidi Admaja," the old man in blue uniform introduced himself, along with the representative who clearly still has a sibling relationship. In addition to the hairstyle and color of the clothes, the faces of these two old men were indeed similar ...
Probably a twin brother.
Nanda just nodded, smiled and didn't make too much noise.
"Before, we've met at Nanda's wedding, before," Wira reminded-convince that this was not their first meeting. "But Nanda seems to have forgotten?"
"Sorry, too many are invited .. Not all of them I know, most are friends of Father and Sister," Nanda smiled clumsily, saying, it looks wrong to hear the last words but cursed in the heart. Hells! Her wedding was over a year ago, the guests were invited a lot, what kind of person would remember a person who only met once and a few seconds greeting without ever meeting again afterwards!?
The hero laughed, looking untroubled. Junaidi invites Nanda to drink when a soldier enters. A warm cup of tea to welcome guests. Shamelessly Nanda sipped her tea-yah .. It has been a long time since she drank tea. Welcoming guests with tea that is rarely obtained is really a luxurious dish ...
In the end, some pleasantries were thrown out by the two old men. They were just chatting about insignificant things like her in-laws' past on the battlefield or about her miserable present state.
Nanda on the other hand had to refrain from yelling that these two old men were really blocking him from communicating with his family. But on the other hand also feel lucky to get some additional information. Unfortunately, the time these two people used was not right.
Oh, are they so idle that they are willing to chat with him for small talk?! Luckily, both of them seemed self-conscious. Releasing Nanda after about two full hours of chatting, asked Dimas to come back to show him the way.
Finally ...
The place he would contact the family was on the 8th floor, making Nanda have to climb the stairs. Dimas was a bit anxious, afraid that the skinny-looking woman could not bear to climb up to the 8th floor. But Nanda just laughed, saying that he was fine. Oh, does his image really look so weak? Nanda did not want to think too much and only focused on contacting the family immediately.
When they reached the 8th floor, Dimas took her to a room. There, some equipment is attached, along with the operator and some people in charge of maintaining communication. Their presence made some people stop working, staring for a few seconds before finally ignoring. A soldier approaches Dimas and Nanda, smiling kindly and ushering in to approach a radio.
"It's connected, Miss can talk right away," he said kindly. Self-conscious, the two men who escorted Nanda began to keep their distance. They let Nanda speak freely, without violating her privacy at all.
"Nda?" a man's voice sounded. Hoarse and not too obvious.
Nanda swallowed the forced saliva. "Dad?"
"Nda? Is that true you are Nda?" the voice changed into a female voice, sounding excited. Not believing what he heard. "Oh, we're looking for you everywhere!"
Nanda felt guilty hearing that. Oh, suddenly he could guess that his father and mother were fighting over the communicator.
"Sorry, Mother."
"How are you doing there? I heard you were okay, but I didn't believe it. Now, after hearing your voice, I just believed."
Nanda laughed at her, not knowing what to say.
"Thank God you're okay. Nda, hurry back, I'll have the troops there escort you!"
"That's .. ," Nanda didn't know what to say. Clearly, he could hear her in-laws' worries. The woman sounded very impatient to see him, impatient to take him to the base and protect him. The figure actually thought of herself as Nanda's biological mother, making Nanda's eyes somehow feel a bit hot. "How about the others? Father, Ganesha, Brother and sister as well as Mother? You guys are okay, right?"
"Here it is safe" but a few seconds later, a sigh is heard. This time a man's voice was heard. "Most importantly, take a break, then come here first."
Nanda was ready to ask Vijaya various things, but hearing his last words, he stopped. In the end, Nanda simply obediently replied. Not too much conversation, they immediately ended the call. Well ... As his father-in-law said, it would be better if he got to Base 1 AD. There, he will meet with the family and vent all the yearnings.
He will meet Ganesha ...
Nanda could not help but smile. The mood was great after ending the conversation. He thanked his colleagues there and while going down the stairs, also took time to the Office where the twins were to thank him, after which, Dimas just invited him to get out of the office, go to where he will rest.
"The base of 1 AD with this Base is a bit far away, so it requires some preparation before leaving," Dimas explained, walking between the well-organized wooden housing. There is no yard for every wooden house, what else is a guardrail. Houses cling to each other, but enough to make a neat housing block. "That's why, we provided two houses to occupy for a few days until the preparations were finished."
Dimas's footsteps stopped. He smiled and pointed at the house behind him. "This is the house of Dek Nanda and Erica, well next to it the house for children" he said, referring to the two houses next door.
Nanda gave a smile, nodded. "Thank you."
"Sama-sama," Dimas chuckled, handing over the two keys to Nanda. "Well, now I still have to be on duty, please rest first" he said. Nanda nodded obediently, waving as the man walked away and without looking back, went straight into one of the designated houses.
The wooden house was only one floor, consisting of only 2 rooms, one living room connected to the kitchen and one bathroom. The living room floor was covered with thick carpet, each room was filled with a soft mattress and most importantly, in the kitchen cabinet, Nanda found some food and drinks bottles. The bathroom is also full of clean water.
At first glance, they are treated the same as others, but in terms of perceived facilities. From a friendly and face-seeking attitude, with what they are doing now, it is very visible that the goal is for Base 1 to have a better relationship with Base 2. But they don't want any commotion by suddenly treating a certain group special, that's why ... from the outside, they are treated equally with people who have just come.
The problem is, is getting a house when just entering is a facility that is generally obtained by everyone who just came to the base? This house is obviously rented. Just look at the tents that were built on one of the base blocks? Nanda was convinced it was an area where the visitors who could not afford the rent, stayed there.
Vaporizing, Nanda came out of the bathroom and directly entered one of the rooms. He lay on the single bed, staring at the high ceiling of the room.
A few days ... Nanda still had to wait a few days to go to Base 1 AD and gather with his family. This made his heart happy, excitedly impatient to leave this base. Actually, he could have gone alone, but this Base wanted to drop off and maybe, indeed, had some business with his In-laws, so Nanda still chose to be patient.
However ...
Ken, Genta and Bobi have their own families. They would definitely want to find and meet their families, whether the trio of youths would follow again or not. To Erica, Nanda knows very well that her Tante will bring the dwarves. Erica would definitely go with him because most likely, Papa who is still Erica's cousin, was also in Base 1 AD.
What about Yulis?
A pair of hazel scoops. Nanda flipped over, staring at the tanned wooden wall.
When he reached the base, he would hire a mercenary group to search for Yulis. Hopefully ... I hope his best friend is okay. He can't be selfish by acting alone anymore. When she meets Ganesha, Nanda knows her husband won't let her take any chances. She also did not want to constantly worry her husband.
Breathing out, Nanda closed both eyes.
Ganesha ... What is he doing now?
