Second Chance

"Huh.."

Hanung jerks from his sleep. He woke up and approached Diana.

"You're awake? I'll call the doctor first."

Diana's hand restrained Hanung as the man was about to turn around. He shook weakly.

"I-i.. Wanna say something. L'm.. I'm sorry."

Hanung's forehead is wrinkled. Apologize for what?

"There are things you don't understand, Han. I'm sorry, but I did it all because of you. I've run out of sense to take your heart back."

"you mean? To hurt the kids?"

"It's the only way to get to you completely, Han."

"For God's sake, Diana. Why would you hurt children? Even sacrifice yourself!"

"Maaa.. Mamiy.." Renata knocked on her parents' bedroom door.

Renata shows Faraz's WA chat to her. Julie's eyes were half open, round.

Julie wakes up Hanung who is asleep.

Diana was buried. Faraz was seen often daydreaming afterwards. Dinda kept asking, how could her mother have died. Their grandfather, the father of Diana, looked flat. Hanung approached him, who was greeted coldly by the old man.

Hanung and Julie agree that Faraz and Dinda live in their house. Renata and Darrel certainly don't mind. They were happy to finally be able to continue with the sisters.

Hanung and Julie sit together in the garden behind their house. We spent the weekend together, as usual. All four of their children were busy in the kitchen. They wanted to make special food for their parents.

Hanung grabbed Julie's fingers, then held her tightly.

"You're happy with our lives, Jul?"

Julie looked at her husband's eyes. He smiled and nodded in response.

"The kids are grown now. But Keanu's trust in me isn't done yet. Consider it my duty to look after you for Keanu. However, there's one thing you should keep in mind, Jul.."

Julie tilted her face.

"I love you, Julie."

Julie chuckles. "You've never said it in person, Mom. But from what you've been doing all this time, so far, I already know. I love you too, Mom."

Hanung smiled and hugged his wife feelingly. Her memory floated on her last chat with Diana back then, five years ago.

"What's the second chance, Di? Had you asked for it long before I married Julie, I would still consider it. All this time you had fun with Rado, or... With whoever it is... I suffered by myself. It's lucky Keanu and Julie helped heal my wounds. Now you're asking for a second chance? Sorry, Diana. I can't."

Diana clucked. "Is it because Julie is richer and more perfect? You don't want to leave him? For me? For your kids?"

Hanung sighed heavily. This conversation is getting harder. "It's not like that's the way. There's another way."

Julie is rich, her life is simple and easy. Clever, beautiful, patient, and very painstaking. But Hanung's feelings for her are not because of what Julie has, but rather on Julie herself. He felt the tremors of the heart that had once dimmed. Her passion for life rekindled and flared up while with Julie.

Every touch and attention Julie gave her, was thrilling as well as calming her soul. He loved and enjoyed the sensation. After many years of marriage and living with Julie, he still feels it to this day, even more. He is addicted to Julie's love, unable to live apart from her.

"Sorry, Diana. My heart belongs to Julie. We can live together without getting back together. There is a God who always looks after us and guarantees your safety. I can only do my best as before. Please, understand."

Diana cried until she sobbed. Hanung waited for her until Diana calmed down, then left her. Diana was silent when Hanung left. He stared at the man's back until it was invisible in his sight.

What Hanung never thought, that was his last meeting with Diana.

"Mas, those kids are done. Yuk!" julie said, awakening Hanung from her daydream and returning to reality in plain sight.

Hanung nodded with a smile and followed his wife to join their children who were setting the dining table.

They eat together while chatting. Hanung looked at Julie and all their children. He is so grateful for his life now. Although he initially held the trust of Keanu, his best friend, receiving children and a wife for care, he now loved them wholeheartedly. Just as he loved his children.

Hanung feels whole with Julie. Here's family. Until death do them part.
