The Story of Sigma Men

The Story of Sigma Men
32. Not just theory

~ Of everything that lives, only humans are the most talkative.

[POV Uzzlah]

I was a quiet person because I was worried that what I said would be of no benefit.

I often hear someone who is very good at talking, but there is almost no meaning and benefit to be taken from the conversation.

Now I am sitting in a room that is not too large. I put my head on the table.

Tired after reading the book Differential Calculus for 30 minutes. Lessons that students should learn.

But I'm not a student. I'm just an Office Boy at one of the conventional banks.

Circumstances that make me have to work. I have received a letter from a state campus in Java, a famous campus, yes about me getting a bachelor scholarship.

My mother said, don't take it because if I leave, then my mother and sister will feel lost.

Then I should help the needs of the family. A meal a day, school fees for my sister, and we are still in debt that must be paid as soon as possible.

I work as a freelancer. If his OB doesn't go to work, then I'll take his place.

It's my job to clean the third-floor room in the morning, afternoon and evening. Sweeping and mopping the room.

"Please copy these files."

I went to the copier in the corner, and gave the job to one of the employees who told me.

At lunch hour.

"Dik, Ma'am tipped chicken rice yes one. Friends mbak also nitip rice fish same rice egg."

I received fifty thousand from the bank clerk.

I passed through a small room one meter wide with transparent walls. Inside was a woman who was counting a huge amount of money.

After from the parking lot, I plugged the gas into the Padang restaurant not far from the office. Then tell the seller to order according to the employee's request.

Now I have three packs of rice. I went through the bank entrance. The security guard threw a smile at me. Then I climbed the stairs to the third floor.

Apparently the employee was waiting, probably because he was hungry.

"Take the change, brother."

"Thank you, Ma'am."

Just like the other employees, I will also take a meal break.

I opened my bag and picked up the lunchbox that Mother had prepared this morning. Rice, omelet, a little sambal.

My mom always prepares my lunch when I go to work. Mother strictly forbid if I buy food outside.

Yeah I know that, to skimp.

The afternoon before I got home from work, someone came up to me and gave me a wage today of seventy thousand.

***

I haven't had a job call in a week. So during that time I accompanied mom on the sale.

But suddenly this afternoon Mr. Dedi called me. "Let's say, tomorrow our technician won't be able to get to work because he's sick. Two days tomorrow and the day after tomorrow you change her position."

"Ready, sir."

Tomorrow morning I rush to the bank again.

Especially for this technician, his job is different from the office boy of course.

My room is downstairs, right next to the generator room.

I've learned before that PLN power outages what I should do.

I had to lower the PLN screw, turn on the generator, then raise the generator screw so that the power supply came from the generator.

Every now and then I check the state of the office, starting from lights, cables, computers, elevators, and anything related to technical matters.

I'd rather serve as a technician than an OB. Although the task is more risky, but the technician is more relaxed.

In this room there is no one. There were only tables, shelves, and flickering buttons.

I spend a lot of time reading. Yesterday Zahid loaned Perry's Chemical Engineers Handsbook to me.

I've been reading it for two hours. Zahid said, this is the book of the children of Chemical Engineering. Many students are unable to complete it.

But I'm sure I can understand the contents. Full of English. Because my English is still a mess, so I occasionally open Google Translate.

In section one about Conversion and Mathematical Symbols.

Atmosphere, bars, Btu, Kelvin, Newtons and many units that I did not learn during High School.

I feel so stupid when I'm dealing with master books.

One section for today. Appreciable. The rest I will learn by myself when I am at home.

Once, when I was serving as a technician, Mr. Dedi suddenly entered my room. I jerked.

"You here, work there, don't relax! Our elevator can't operate. Suddenly dead. Finish it!"

I rushed to the location. I shudder. I looked around the elevator. I don't understand this elevator at all.

I have worked several times, only this time faced with a problem that I do not understand. I can't work on it.

I also do not know what the exact cause of this elevator can stop the operation. All I have in mind is to call Rio, the real technician.

"Hurry up here, brother. I can't afford it."

Ten minutes I was still stunned. Some of the employees wanted to come in but I said I couldn't.

Then Mr. Dedi pushed me suddenly.

"What have you been working on?" Jerky Mr. Dedi.

"Sorry, Sir. Rio will be here soon."

"You should have done it! Why call Rio? Now he's not feeling well. Poor him." Said Mr. Dedi grinning.

He threw my books he had taken from my room. Everything fell to the floor.

"You only read books. Told not to becus. Today is the last time you work. I will look for other freeancers who have more skills. Not just a lot of reading."

At home, I continued session two. About Thermodynamics Properties.

While reading, while I also contemplate the words of Mr. Dedi this afternoon.

Right, I don't have any skills. Just a lot of theories. This is an important lesson for me.

Next I worked as a waiter at Riverside, a restaurant on the banks of the Musi River.

He still wears a white shirt and black pants. I was taught by a senior how to bring food.

"One tray first. If you're used to it, try using two two-handed trays." Teach friend.

TRIINNGGGG

"Table two five," said the kitchen man.

There are two seafood fried rice. I carefully carried one tray with two hands instead.

While my friend just brought two trays that each tray contains six bowls of patin pindang. So there were twelve patin shields that he brought.

It's amazing, I thought.

He passed through the passageway, a kind of two-meter-wide iron bridge, a link between the kitchen and the floating ship.

The two-storied floating ship. There are dozens of dining tables there. Bartender and coffee shop there too.

My friend was walking a little fast. While I was still teetering, worried that these two fried rice were spilled.

Especially before entering the floating ship, must pass through the iron bridge again. If the tide is high, the bridge rises according to the height of the water.

Now the water is not rising. So this connection is a little down. If you slip a little, go to the Musi river.

I put the order on the table.

TRIINNG

Bartender direction. I'll be there soon. Two iced sweet teas. Looks like the table order just now.

"Good fun."

I got an afternoon shift a few days. It works from 3pm to 10pm.

Well, tonight the restaurant is having a birthday. There is a band Slank who perform filling the show and there are also several more artists.

Employees cannot enter. After all I was preoccupied with various orders.

At the end of the event there was a prize draw for employees, not least for new employees like me.

Thank God, I was so unexpected, I got a rice coocker prize. A great start for a waiter.
