Enrique sat on the balcony, he stared at the darkness of the beach with the sound of waves pounding each other. He's got his phone. There's a name on it. Enrique wanted to contact him, but he was worried.
"You want to call Aunty Fia?"
Marvel suddenly patted Enrique on the shoulder and sat down next to him. Enrique did not turn his head, but he nodded.
"I miss him, I miss hearing his scolding. I wanted to call her, but I'm too embarrassed."
"Your mother's anger can't be the same as Mavra's anger at you. Dial him. Maybe your mom was angry then, but trust me! Until now she must have been waiting for a call from you."
"But what if he stays mad at me?"
"Try harder."
Enrique, feeling enlightened, immediately pressed the call for his mother. It's true what Marvel said. Just the first ring alone, the very voice Enrique longed for was heard from across there.
"Mom."
"What's up, Enrique? Are you all right?"
Hearing her mother's question, Enrique became quite emotional. Her eyes are red. He raised his face so that his tears would not fall.
"I'm good, Mom. How's mommy doing?"
"Mommy's pretty good too."
"Mom."
("Hmm, what's up Enrique?")
"I've met Mavra, but now she's lost her memory. Mom, mommy wants to pray for me. I'm gonna fight to get it now."
("WHAT? How could? Was he an accident. Where is he now? Mommy's gonna come for him.")
"Mom, my mistake is huge. I have to make it up to you. Someday I will bring Mavra back to meet you, but for now I can't. Mavra has to slowly remember me. He mustn't think too hard."
("Well, mommy will be waiting for you to bring in Mommy's daughter-in-law. Oh yes, Enrique. Mommy has to go back to Indonesia because your grandfather is sick.")
"Gerry's grandfather is sick, Mom?"
("Old disease. Mommy hasn't seen it herself either. Mommy's going home with your uncle and aunt and your other cousins.")
"I hope Grandpa will recover soon. I want to marry Mavra and see all of our extended family mom."
("Mommy likes your spirit. You have to get Mommy's daughter-in-law any way.")
"I'll definitely get it, Mom."
After their call ended, Enrique took a deep breath. I am so glad to be able to talk to her mother again. He thought it would take a lot of effort to get his mother's heart the way it used to be.
Marvel chuckled at Enrique's face. "You're done with your mother, right? Now it's my turn to talk seriously with you."
"What's wrong?"
"I'll always look after Mavra."
"You can't watch him for 24 hours, Enrique."
"Then how? We cannot attack without reason. Even if the reason is because members of their group are harassing Mavra. Because in fact Mavra had gotten rid of the people who were stalking him. I'll tighten Mavra's guard up close."
"And Mavra will beat you up if he finds out he's being watched."
Enrique let out a long breath. He rubbed his face with both hands.
"Just rest first. It's so late. Tomorrow we find the right solution."
Marvel took off the shirt. He put his body in bed. Enrique caught up with him. Until dawn began to break, Enrique's eyes had not been closed at all. It still feels like a dream to be able to talk again with Mavra, albeit in a different version.
That morning most of Mavra's family came home. Uncle Jared and his wife left early because their youngest son had a problem in his school dorm. Louisa and Diandra followed later.
"Will Mommy and Daddy come home later?"
"Yes, that's it. Grandma and Grandpa will be here 1 week."
"Why don't I just come home with you guys."
"Then what about your lecture here, honey?"
Mavra was silent when she mentioned her college. He himself was wondering why he could choose to study in San Francisco, while Marvel was in L. A., but Mavra did not ask this to his parents. He chose to find his own answer later.
While the family was having breakfast, Enrique came out with a frightening eye circumference.
"Enrique, what's wrong with you? Didn't you sleep all night?"
"I'm having trouble sleeping, Aunty. Last night my mother told me that my grandfather in Indonesia is sick."
"Oh my, aunty was sad to hear that. May your grandfather recover soon."
"Thank you aunty."
Mavra looks indifferent to Enrique's arrival, even as Enrique sits next to him she has no intention of greeting.
"Good morning, Mi .. uh Mavra."
"Hmm yeah." Mavra bit her bread while continuing to scroll through the phone screen without turning her head.
"Can I come to your college? I'm gonna transfer my college here."
"Why?"
"I want a college with you."
"What a force," answered Mavra ketus. Marvel feels sorry for Enrique, but let Enrique now live this difficult time. If it gets to the point Enrique is having trouble, he'll help the man.
