he is one of the important figures in the history of industry and technology in the world. His invention of the steam engine when it managed to change the face of industry in England then spread throughout the world.
he is considered one of the most important inventors ever. James was born in Greenock, Scotland, 19 January 1736 – and died in Birmingham, England on 19 August 1819. James Watt was a British engineer from Scotland. His father was James Watt and his mother was Agnes Muirhead.
He was the eldest of five children and came from a distinguished family with a good education, while his father was a shipbuilder, owner and contractor, and served as head of Baillie Greenock in 1751. Initially, James was self-educated by his mother at home, before eventually attending Greenock Grammar School.
At the school, James showed his talent in mathematics.
When he was 18, his mother died and his health began to decline. Eventually, James decided to drop out of school and go to London to get training as an instrument maker for one year, 1755-1756.
After training, he returned to Scotland and settled in Glasgow.
James intended to set up his own instrument-making business.
However, since James was very young, he had no ordinary connections to help him build his own daily instrument-making business. This impasse James later saved thanks to the arrival of an astronomer from Jamaica, Alexander Macfarlane. James was brought to the University of Glasgow. From there, James' career began brilliantly. Initially, he worked in the maintenance and repair of instruments.
Until finally, in 1759, he partnered with John Craig, an architect and entrepreneur to manufacture and sell James's product line. The partnership lasted six years and employed about 16 employees.
Steam Machine Discovery
That same year, 1759, James' friend John Robinson called for his attention to the use of steam as a source of propulsion.
Newcome's steam engine design, which has been used for nearly 50 years to pump water from the mine, has barely changed since it was first formed.
James tried to build a model, but failed.
He resumed his experiments and began to read everything he could about the steam engine. After much experimentation, in 1776, the first engine was installed. This first machine was used to drive the pump and only produced back and forth motion to drive the pump rod at the bottom of the shaft.
Commercially, this design managed to attract attention. Over the next five years, James was preoccupied with installing more steam engines to pump water out of the mine.
This success has made James the inventor of the first steam engine that works efficiently.
Before him, there had been others who created the steam engine, namely Hero, Thomas Sarvery, and finally Thomas Newcomen. However, the tool they created is only useful for pumping water out of coal mines.
james' steam engine was one of the forces driving the Industrial Revolution, especially in Britain and Europe in general.
James Watt died on August 25, 1819, at the age of 83.
To appreciate his services, his last name, Watt is used as the name of the power unit. Such as engine power and electric power.
