“Hoi Gree! Wake up, guys, we're up.” Kris's voice wakes me up from my nightmares, as much as I can open my eyes, trying to tell the difference between dreams and reality.
“Come, 1 kilometer left!” Kris thrust my bag, I was fully aware after 5 seconds, I grabbed my bag and patted his back the sign I was conscious. I saw Danny taking pictures of some of the birds that live on the ground for food.
Then we headed north, where our camp would be built. We are planning to build a tent in the valley region behind the mountain, the area is not yet used, and satellite imagery shows that camping in the region is possible. During the trip I tried to forget what had happened by opening up talks with Kris and Dan, and they seemed to understand the situation, which made me calmer.
“Here?” after a few minutes of walking we arrived near a small river, the flow was swift and the water was clear, I saw some fish were swimming with agility, the source of food and water was already there, and I saw some fish were swimming with agility, the surrounding land was also flat, and the sound of water ripples provided its own serenity.
This is a great place to set up a tent. Scroll my two comrades, they nodded their heads in agreement. I just smile, “I'll set up the tent, you guys have fun, find a meal, firewood, or do whatever you want to do.” Kris and Danny smiled, “what if we just exchange, you're the one who walks.” Kris pulled me over and took over the unfinished tent. I just complied and walked into the woods to find firewood.
As I walked, I faintly heard the sound of a cat, probably still a baby. Slowly following the direction of her voice, my eyes combed every corner I met. Someone must have left him in the middle of the forest, there could be no sound of a house cat in the forest far from the city.
After a few minutes of searching, passing through some bushes and trees, I found a little cat meowing behind a rock. It was even smaller than my hand, with its small body, I was worried that it would become a free meal for the other forest dwellers. I carried him and I put him in my jacket pocket, his head poking out in search of air, for the size of a newborn cat he was very docile, not even taking out his paws on me at all.
After collecting some twigs and firewood I walked through my path back to the river, and unexpectedly there was a nice tent standing before my eyes. “Finally you're back,” Danny welcomed me, “Kris already caught some fish, let's cook!” he said, seizing firewood from my grasp.
I just followed him while stroking the little cat who was enjoying the beautiful world. Near the river Kris was seen carrying 3 fish, I do not know how to catch 3 fish without fishing equipment, but it looks like my stomach is no longer concerned, I just followed him to Danny who was trying to start a fire. Many times Danny tried to start a fire, but failed. “Kris you're the one who turned on.” I said, Danny nodded and chuckled and sat down next to me, “ah, who's this tiny pal?” he said while trying to pet the little cat in my pocket, “do you have a name for him?”
I looked at Danny, “Lily.” said to me, “Lily is a good name.” danny just widened his smile while continuing to stroke Lily. The fire was lit, fish were being burned, the three of us gathered, we were together, letting go of the fatigue by sleeping on the cozy grass, with Lily playing on my chest, and the delicate scent of grilled fish, made my mind calmer.
Shortly after my mind became clear again, Kris thrust out the grilled fish she made, cut a little for Lily and ate while enjoying the sunsets in the beautiful purple sky.
After eating, we started a bonfire near the tent. The cold air makes the night feel a little gripping, but if I think again, gripping him tonight is not worth the fun I got with my two stupid friends.
I sat on the grass, watching Kris and Danny walking into the tent sleepily, “You take care first yes, wake me up!” Kris patted my back with a smile on his face. I just nodded, my eyes fixed on my new jacket lying on the ground enveloping Lily who was venturing into dreamland.
The bright moon was shining down on my seat, the moon was in full time, reminding me of the story of the werewolf that I used to tell while camping, which I had never heard in person and clearly.
My daydream stopped when I heard the rustling of a bush a little far from the tent, I slowly lifted Lily and put on my jacket, then I put the little cat in my pocket, it seemed like he was sleeping very well and didn't realize what I was doing. A few moments later there was the sound of splashing river water, guess from the same distance as the bush, which was then followed by 3 more rustling sounds.
I don't know if it's because of the feeling of alert or panic, their voices sound closer, immediately I open the tent and wake Kris and Danny, “Let's wake up, someone approached here!” my whiskey.
Kris quickly responded and reached into his pocket looking for a knife, Danny tried to wake himself up, I threw a big enough twig at Danny, the three of us are ready now. The rustling sound turned into footsteps, faintly faint I heard a growling sound like a coyote.
As I got closer and closer, my heartbeat began to sound in the silence tonight, I was sure Danny and Kris were too, getting closer, and closer, and finally the sound was very clear, about 10 meters from our tent, the shadow of a thin-bodied human, and also, hairy?
Lily clawed at me a little, her face looked terrified. A growl rang out, one of them standing beside our tent, the moonlight-generated shadow pierced through the tent cloth, a thin, hairy human figure, had a tail and also a wolf-like face shape. Werewolves.
I'm a realist, got an unexpected event like this. The real werewolves, standing before me, there were 2 possible things that would happen, they killed us for seeing things that we shouldn't, or we killed them. A howl rang out from outside the tent, with my eyes I watched the tearing of our tent by its long fingernails.
And there he is, a mystical creature that actually exists. Should I go? Should I examine them? Care demon! They want to kill us, which I might let.
“Backed!” I shouted as I thrust a small knife into his chest, he quickly dodged, Kris and Danny went to take care of the others, myself. When he dodged my other hand immediately slammed a twig into the neck under his chin, fainting, 1 completed, 4 remaining.
Two of his group of friends came up to me, I put a twig in my hand as a diversion, one of them dodged, and when I was about to stab my knife, his friend immediately bit my arm.
“Enyah!” I shouted while hitting her head, it seemed like I accidentally knocked her unconscious, and finally the last one left. With only one working hand what am I supposed to do? Stupid fuck! I threw my knife, he didn't avoid it and it hit him right in the heart, stuck but not deep, stupid, just cut it and I avoided the claw, when his body was too hard to swing, I kicked the knife in his chest in. 3 runs out, 2 more left.
I looked behind me, one of them holding 2 items. That's Danny and Kris who are unconscious. Goddamnit! I dropped my gun to the ground.
Without me knowing he was in front of me, with his claws ready to grab my neck. Ah, am I gonna end up here? Maybe my life has no purpose.
“Gree!” a shout came from behind that stupid figure, I don't want to die. I kicked him in the leg until he fell, I grabbed the wood I had dropped, then I smashed the skull of that stupid creature. All completed. I approached Danny and Kris who were helpless, Danny was unable to maintain his consciousness and Kris was dying. The conditions of the three of us were almost the same, pathetic.
As Lily jumped out of my pocket, the little cat looked at me with a strange eye, slowly the land of all the feathers on its body began to emit a dim light, the longer it got brighter, the brighter it was, until I finally saw nothing.
All these unreasonable events in a row made me realize, it turns out something beyond human reason is true. I just resigned myself, smiling at the possibility that I would die here. At least I'm with my friend.
