Something Beautiful

Something Beautiful
Chapter - 5

Five years ago, Mingyu had considered proposing to her someday, at some point, but she was not expecting a wife, as she is today, and he promised nothing before leaving for Spain. A year later, Una's father, who wanted to add another title in the family tree, insisted that he marry Mr. Lee. When Mingyu receives a letter informing him that Una has been married to Lee, he does not feel lost. On the other hand, he had known Una since he was a teenager, and had a fondness for the woman. Maybe if he was near Una, he would persuade the woman to defy her parents' request and reject Lee's proposal. But maybe not really. Like women with social class like her, Una since childhood has been taught that as a daughter she is obliged to marry the man of her parents' choice.

But anyway, Mingyu was not there. Two years after his father's death, although he had no heir to ensure the survival of his descendants, Mingyu bought a post in the armed forces and left for Spain in the war against Napoleon. At first the reckless and courageous attitude when dealing with enemies is the result of dissatisfaction in life. After that, as he grew older, the skill and knowledge he gained from countless fierce battles kept him alive and added to his reputation as a reliable strategist and a formidable opponent.

Four years after leaving for Spain, he retired from the military and returned to Britain to continue his duties and responsibilities as the successor to Kim Group.

Kim Mingyu who returned to England last year was very different from the young man who left the other day. When he first stepped foot into the dance hall after returning home from Spain, the change was so noticeable, in contrast to the pale faces and bored demeanor of the other noble men, the brownish-colored Mingyu skin, her tall body was hard and burly, her movements nimble and powerful. And although his famous Kim charm is still evident in his sometimes fluffy smile, in him lies the aura of a man who has faced danger and enjoyed it. The aura was very attractive to the women and made her allure multiply.

"Can you forget how much we mean to each other?" Una rebuked, and before Mingyu could take action, he leaned forward and kissed the man, his familiar body, so resigned and obedient, suppressing Mingyu's body with desire.

Mingyu pulled Una's hand while clutching her tightly mercilessly then pushed the woman away. "Don't be stupid!" the hardness was firm, the long fingers seemed to penetrate the woman's hand. "We're ordinary friends, nothing more. What happened between us last week was a mistake. It's over."

Una tried to get closer. "I can make you love me Mingyu. I know I can. You almost loved me a few years ago. And you wanted me a week ago,"

"I want your makeup body, my sweetness," mocked Mingyu viciously, "nothing more. That's all I want from you. I'm not going to kill your husband in a duel to get you, so forget about the ruse. You need to find another stupid man who's willing to buy your freedom at gunpoint."

Una's face paled, trying to hold back her tears, but she did not deny that she ever wished Mingyu would kill her husband. "I don't want freedom, Mingyu, I want you" she said sadly holding back tears. "You may think I'm just an ordinary friend, but I've been in love with you since we were fifteen."

The confession was made with humility and deep sadness that could make anyone except Mingyu know that the woman was telling the truth, and perhaps be compassionate to him. But Mingyu had long been a skeptic when it came to women. His response to that heartbreaking confession of love was simply to thrust out a snow-white handkerchief. "Dry your tears."

However, Kim Mingyu shrewdly looked completely unperturbed as he returned to the side of the ballerina who was his latest mistress from his long list of mistresses. And when the couple stepped onto the dance floor a few minutes later, it felt a radiance of energy, a strong attraction emanating from the handsome and charismatic couple. Miss Jung's graceful and delicate movements complemented Mingyu's resolute movements. The color of her pale complexion was in stark contrast to the dark-colored Mingyu skin, and as they danced together, they looked like two perfect creatures created for each other.

"But there's always a way" Miss Oh told her friends as they watched the couple with admiration. "Kim Mingyu always made the woman he was with seem like the perfect match."

"Well, he's not going to marry a stage actress like her. No matter how great they were together," said Miss Oh again. "And my brother promised to invite Mingyu to our house for breakfast this week" he added triumphantly to the friends around him.

Miss Oh's joy was quickly crushed by the friend next door who was wearing an elegant maroon red dress, "My mom said she'll go to Cha's residence tomorrow" she said.

"Cha's Residence?" repeat the other woman with a confused face, her shoulders sagging.

"That's my grandmother's estate" Miss Cha explained. "It's in the north, passing through a small, remote hamlet called Morsham." Close it with a triumphant smile.

The women who were coiling looked paled. They don't even care if the hamlet doesn't really exist. In fact, they were never the name of that boring little hamlet. The existence of that small hamlet was considered useless, though, so no one wanted to pay any further attention and they mocked that Kim Mingyu might very well object to having to go on such a troublesome journey for something she might not like.

Miss Cha of course did not accept their scathing insinuations. "As far as I know, Kim Mingyu is not the type of man who breaks promises" he said, filled with cynicism that he did not want to hide. "And they've been making promises since last month, of course I'm very sure that he'll come to keep the promises he made himself with full awareness." a sharp lid that was given a look of dislike by his friends. The atmosphere of competition between them in fighting over a Kim Mingyu seemed increasingly thick.
