Sophie was a little taken aback, and she did not understand the meaning behind Chase Moore's words. "How are you going to make him abandon that idea completely?"
Chase was clearly amused by the question.
He rubbed his head. "Basin' goose is ridiculous."
After speaking, she then propped Sophie up on her lap with one hand while pushing the wheel of her wheelchair with the other hand and left.
Sophie felt too embarrassed in this position, and she struggled for some time before breaking away.
He touched her blushing cheek. "Let me push you back."
The man in the wheelchair smiled. "You have to get used to this kind of life. Your husband's disabled, so this is what intimacy is like."
* * *
It might have been common to feel sleepy after eating, so on the way home to the Moore Mansion, Sophie leaned back in the car leather seat and fell asleep restlessly once again.
After some time, a sharp ringtone woke him up.
He sleepily picked up the phone. "Hello..."
"Soph, this is Aunt Phoebe here."
Phoebe Simmons's voice was heard from the other end of the phone. "I'm now at Ayrith Hospital. Your cousin's brother fought and severely injured himself. I didn't bring any money, could you..."
"No." Sophie exhaled deeply, and her voice turned cold in an instant. "Aunt Phoebe, you should know that I'm still learning. I really don't have any money."
Phoebe laughed across the phone. "I know you don't have money, but aren't you married now? Blind man in your house... No. gabe... Your husband..."
"The money belongs to him, it's not mine."
Sophie was completely awakened by the woman's voice. He got up from his bed and suddenly realized that he was lying on a large bed in his bridal room.
Could it be that he had slept walking into his bedroom after falling asleep in the car?
"Soph?"
Phoebe, who was across the phone, rambled for quite a while before realizing that Sophie had not responded. She yelled angrily, "Sophie, I rarely call you, and I rarely beg you, but this is your attitude?! Shouldn't we help each other as relatives? Back when you were in your hometown, we did extend a hand to you, right? "
Sophie tightly gripped her phone as her heart slowly became as cold as a stone.
It would still be fine if Phoebe did not mention the incident. After mentioning it, Sophie did not even pity him in the slightest.
Back when he was studying, he went to Phoebe's house to borrow Chester Bates' textbooks because he wanted to save their money and Auntie's. In the end, she had been humiliated by Phoebe and even had to work on her farm for a week. Only then did Phoebe agree to lend Chester's old books that he no longer used.
He remembered clearly how Phoebe humiliated him back then. Now, Phoebe instead says that relatives should help each other?!
Resisting her anger, Sophie immediately ended the call.
But how could Phoebe just give up?
After a few phone calls, Sophie is distracted until she no longer feels sleepy.
He simply turned off his phone and went down to warm up a glass of milk for himself.
While she warms up the milk, she adds one more glass thinking Chase may still be awake.
Three minutes later, she carried two glasses of milk on a tray and climbed to the top. As he passes by the study room, he overhears a conversation between Ben and Chase.
"Your skills have improved quite a lot, but your strength is not enough. Did you see clearly how I did it today?"
Ben's voice still sounded grim. "No, it's too soon."
"Of course you have to be quick. If others see you, how can you surprise them?"
"I'll fix it."
Sophie, who was holding the milk, was confused to hear their conversation.
He didn't expect Ben to be here, so he just prepared milk for himself and Chase.
As he was thinking whether to warm one more glass of milk, James' voice sounded from behind. "Mrs."
Her sudden voice took Sophie by surprise, and she almost spilled milk.
Fortunately, he had experience working in cafes, so he ended up going through a storm.
After awakening, the door of the study room had been opened. Ben who was inside the room looked at Sophie alertly. "Why are you here?"
After a long while, he gloomily told the truth. "I'm just here to send you milk..."
He accidentally eavesdropped on them.
After all, he had not even understood a word.
"Come in."
The man's indifferent voice sounded from the room.
It was as if Sophie had regained her freedom, and she immediately brought milk into the room and left a tray on the table. "I came down to warm the milk just now, I thought you might still be up, so..."
"Why did you suddenly wake up?"
The man sitting on a wheelchair with his back facing him seemed uninterested by the reason why he had appeared.
Sophie was stunned and coughed softly. "I. I just woke up all of a sudden."
"Your family called you, right?"
Since Chester had met with such an incident, based on how shameless his relatives were, it was not strange for them to call him at this hour to earn money.
"Ehm..."
Sophie secretly************* her hand. "How do you know..."
She hasn't even told Eve about taking her family's phone call.
"Not everyone is as stupid as you."
The man let out a soft breath and turned around.
Only then did Sophie realize that Chase had changed into a loose, black and delicate outfit. Doesn't look like pajamas. More like the martial uniform Eve wore before.
He slightly scrunched his face in surprise.
A blind man sitting in a wheelchair late at night wearing a martial arts uniform?
He could clearly feel his astonished gaze, but he did not plan to explain. "Do you obey them?"
He moved his wheelchair and gulped down the milk. "How much do they want?"
"I don't know."
Sophie pursed her lips. "I don't have the money to lend it, so I don't ask how much they need..."
A faint smile appeared on the side of his lips. "But I have money."
"You've helped me pay for my grandmother's medical expenses, I can't be grateful enough..."
Sophie looked at him and said seriously, "They really treated me very badly. I don't think I should owe you any more to help them."
Chase's hand trembled slightly as he held onto his milk glass.
"Do you think that you'll owe me a favor after I help you?"
The small-bodied woman wearing her pajamas nodded her head earnestly. "I owe you a favor."
Chase raised his eyes. His deep eyes were staring at him through a piece of black silk.
"In your eyes, who am I?"
Sophie pursed her lips. "You are my benefactor."
"Just a philanthropist?"
"My husband too."
"There again?"
The woman moved her black eyes in a circle. "I don't remember."
He knew Chase for less than a week, and he wasn't very close to him. He really could not remember what other relationship he had with her.
"Someone who will be with me for life."
