Chapter 3 To The City

Next day.

Mellisa wakes up from her sleep, seeing her husband still asleep.

Melissa let her husband awake.

After finishing the morning prayers, Melissa rushed towards the kitchen.

She saw her mother-in-law cooking.

"Ma," call Mellisa.

Mama turned her head, she smiled welcoming her daughter-in-law to come.

"Here baby," tell mama.

Melissa approached mom.

"I'll help you, Ma."

Mama nodded.

They cook together while occasionally chatting.

"You know what, Mama really wants a daughter."

"Oh." Mellisa smile.

"Mama's happy now there's you dear." Mama rubbed Mellisa's head.

The two looked familiar, the mother who embraced her daughter-in-law gently made Mellisa not feel so awkward when she was near the mother-in-law.

"It's finished, it doesn't feel right," said the mother while cleaning the kitchen.

"Hm smells good, Mama's cooking must be good" Mellisa said.

Melissa helped her mother-in-law.

She was so busy going back and forth from the kitchen to the dinner table preparing breakfast that her husband who had been staring at her from earlier did not realize.

"Eh, Mas" said Mellisa in shock as her husband approached.

"What is my wife doing?" asked Davin to hug Mellisa from behind.

The mother who saw him just smiled.

Mellisa can't refuse for sure because she saw it.

"There's mama, Mas" said Mellisa trying to let go of Davin's hand.

Davin tightened his embrace, upsetting Mellisa.

"Let's have breakfast first, Mas," asked Mellisa hoping Davin would take off a hug.

Finally Davin took off his embrace. He pulled Mellisa's hand towards the dining table.

At breakfast, Davin talks to his parents if he should return to the city immediately.

Mellisa smiled happily, she would stay at her mother's house, she thought.

Of course Davin's parents were shocked because to their knowledge Davin's leave was not finished.

"Why rush?" ask mama.

"The company needs me" Davin replied.

"Well, if you want to go back to town." Papa seems to understand enough.

Mellisa smiled back, how happy it was at least to temporarily not meet her husband just yet in some time, she thought.

"Mellissa. Before you go, you better go to your mother's house now, you say goodbye." Papa saw Mellisa who had just been silent.

Melissa looked shocked to hear the words of her father-in-law.

"Why?" ask me to see the surprise of his daughter-in-law.

'I don't think I'm coming, ' Inner Mellisa.

Melissa ventured to answer papa's question.

"Yes Pa, instead of Davin mas will be busy, later even Mellisa lonely, the distance from here to the city is only about two hours, because Davin can go home once a week."

Papa frowned.

"How come it's like that, you're husband and wife but you'll live far apart?" ask papa in a slightly high tone.

Mellisa looked scared and silent, Davin looked at his somewhat strange wife, he thought.

Why is it that Mellisa doesn't want to come with her to the city.

"Yes, Son. Do not be like that, you husband and wife should always be together, besides you have to take care of your husband, it is the duty of a wife," said the mother who agrees with her husband.

Mellisa can only be silent with a sense of doubt if in fact she does not want to live with her husband.

Davin looked at Mellisa.

"Let's come with me to the city of Mellisa, you take it easy, I'll reduce my busyness in the office and will accompany you so that you are not lonely." Davin embraces his wife, of course Mellisa can not refuse him.

"Well, Mas," replied Mellisa obediently.

'How about this, I'll come with my husband but even my feelings are not calm, ' Mellisa's mind.

Although the distance between her mother-in-law's house and her mother's house is not so far away, Mellisa chooses to say goodbye to her mother by phone only.

"Are you sure you don't want to say goodbye to mom?" ask Davin.

Mellisa shook her head.

Davin was about to hold his wife's hand, but Melissa refused.

'What's wrong with Mellisa?' inner Davin.

It's been half the journey and the two continue to be silent, still no word came out between the husband and wife.

Mellisa took her phone in the bag, and she called to talk to her mother.

"Assalamu'alaikum" Talita said after picking up the phone.

"Wa'alaikum greetings, mother where is Dek? I want to talk to Mom."

"So, brother, I'm looking for you first."

Talita is looking for her mother who is still around the house.

Melissa waited a moment.

Talita handed her phone to her after revealing that her sister wanted to talk.

"Assalamu'alaikum Mell, what's wrong?" ask mother.

"Wa'alaikum salam Bu, today me and Davin mas leave for the city of Bu, this is on the way Mom, sorry I say goodbye only by phone," explained Melissa turned to her husband at a glance.

"Oh that's it, have you guys been all right there, where's Davin? I want to talk."

Melissa gave her phone to her husband.

"You just hold it, activate the loudspeaker" Davin asked as he was driving.

Mellisa according.

"Mother" call Davin.

"Yes Davin, please take care of Mellisa's child, just tell Mellisa if she won't obey."

"Ready ma'am, I promise to take good care of my wife."

A few minutes later they ended their phone.

Melissa looked out the window again.

Davin returned to driving while glancing at his wife.

"Mell," call Davin.

Mellisa.

"Yes, Mas" he said.

"You don't want to go to town or you don't want to live with me?"

Mellisa looked surprised, Davin was too hasty to ask that.

"I know from last night you look a little bit different not like a nervous woman on the first night but more to fear something, may you know what it is?"

Mellisa was actually confused about what to answer, some time she was silent not answering.

Davin was about to hold his wife's hand but he puffed out, he would definitely be rejected again.

"I'm sorry, Mom." Mellisa.

"Why apologize?"

"I've been trying to love you, but my heart doesn't beat at all when it's near you, I'm sorry."

Davin had expected him, of course he was very disappointed, but since their wedding day, Davin had established his heart to love his wife.

"Do you want us to stay apart?" davin's question made Mellisa shocked.

"Don't, what if mom and dad knew," Mellisa refused.

"What is the meaning of marriage if there is no love."

"I don't even know you, how can I love you?"

"You don't want to try it, so what do you want?"

Mellisa did not answer, she turned to the car window ignoring Davin.

Davin breathed out violently.

It was sad that Davin endured the pain in his heart, he did not expect that his wife would speak honestly like that, instead of living first and learning to love.

At the end of their journey, they spent it again in silence, after being interrupted by their conversation which made Davin full of disappointment.
