Episode 7: One Step of Truth - Part 1

7. One Step of Truth

“The truth is we don’t know anything about this world,” ‒Alvian Tristan

“Yuhu~! Alice! Alvian!”

The Tristan twins turned their heads, following the direction of the sound source. In accordance with Alice's agreement with Lucas yesterday, this afternoon they met at Zello Cafe. At the end of the room, Lucas was sitting quietly accompanied by a large cup of hot tornado choco. He waved happily when the twins actually came to meet him.

“Please sit! Have you guys ordered?” exclaim Lucas enthusiastically. He took his previous jacket

placed on a bench in front of him.

“Already, really,” replied Alvian, smiling faintly. They shook hands and sat comfortably. “Your choice is right to meet here.”

“Ahaha, I just want us to relax. I also do not want if suddenly there is a fistfight,”, Lucas said

sipping his cup. The man looked at the pair of twins sitting opposite him and looked amazed at the look of such a similar face.

“Wah, I'm so scared of losing control. I can endanger the lives of everyone here,” Alvian replied in a joking tone. In a somewhat satirical tone, he continued, “But before that happened, surely I already killed you first.”

“Fantastic! Great bluff.” Lucas laughed softly, looking amused. “But unfortunately, I won't die that easily.”

Alice quietly noticed the appearance of the blond man before her. Men are like normal people in general. Dress casually with a black sweater and jeans. A thick jacket, scarf, and hat were draped on the bench next to it.

“There's something on my face, Alice?” asked Lucas, caught Alice who had been watching him. That girl

immediately shook his head misbehavior and again made Lucas chuckle slowly. “Why were you silent?”

"Uhhh .. nothing. I really like to be quiet,” said Alice slowly. Feeling her cheeks heat up, Alice cleared her throat, then diverted the more serious conversation. “So, can we talk about that now?”

“Sure. But wait, your order has arrived, tuh,” Lucas said as he pointed to a waiter who was walking to their table. “Cause. I really don't want the atmosphere to be tense.”

A waiter stopped at their table politely and placed an order for two hot cups. Alice shifts the cup containing her special matcha and her brother's vanilla latte. Then with a brief nod, the maid left and left the three of them back.

“We no longer need to answer it, right? Why do we come here if we finally refuse?” reply Alvian while sipping the cup in front of him. Lucas laughed softly.

“You laugh a lot today, yes,” cuss Alice with sarcasm. “Or it turns out you trapped us?”

“No. I'm not setting you up,” Lucas replied, shaking slowly. Then he took out a few sheets of A5 files and gave them to Alice. “Alright, I'll be serious. This is our member data. Before proceeding to the deeper thing, you can read it first.”

Alice and Alvian both frowned, then read the file together. The frown of his forehead deepened, signaling he was increasingly confused by what he got. The file contains only a few lifetimes of people, one of which is Lucas. It also mentions the previously occupied territory, abnormal abilities, and weapons used. They only found out if the ability Lucas uses is electric and the ability is different from the other two friends. Alice is stunned when she realizes that Lucas and his friends are not natives of Region VII. Not to mention, the fact that the file only contains the life history of three people. How quaint.

“What do you mean? You ... You three?” ask Alice. He put the sheet down and looked at the blond man before him doubtfully. “You hid the others?”

“No, why hide it? Besides, if it turns out we are a big group, surely our group is already famous as the superhero of this region, right?” lucas was followed by a sigh of fatigue. “Trust or not, we are indeed only three for now.”

“Then the reason you three are pure is because ..?”

“Yes, because our number is limited. We even got a stamp as ‘failed products that can survive’. At least, said the professor who found us,” replied Lucas with a look that turned sharper. His face turned serious. No more laughter like before.

“Heh, strange nickname,” Alvian said as he shook his head. He was wasting his tired breath because for him this was very complicated. “But at least, it's better than the nickname ‘damned child’, right, Lice?”

“Iya,” Alice smiled bitterly. He suddenly recalled when the citizens shouted at him as ‘born son of the damned’ and kicked him out when they were very young. The girl shook her head slowly and turned to look at Lucas. “If you hear your nickname earlier, I feel like we're being used as guinea pigs.”

“Can you tell me everything from the beginning? Are we really guinea pigs?” ask Alvian slowly. His hands clenched, completely impatient for the long-awaited answer

for years. He knew that now was the right time to know everything.

“Good. But before I tell you that, you need to remember that I told you about it based on

what I got from the professor. So, don't assume that I know deeply about our problems,” Lucas said slowly. He took a deep breath, then looked back at the two in turn.

Alice and Alvian nodded obediently. And the truth began to unfold.
