Bloody Weekend

Bloody Weekend
Chapter 51

”I would lose my job if I

treat such things.”

”But don't you want to throw anything

on such women?”

Amy took a deep breath.

”Of course I want to. Sometimes, especially on hot weekends during the summer, I'm afraid that one day I forget myself and say fuck to everyone instead of just saying, ‘Yes, Madam. No, Madam. I'll see if we have another, Madam.’”

”Amy, dear little Amy, you can't bear all that.”

Amy laughed, a little shaky.

”Not to worry, Ryan. Why did you come here? Why not just call?”

”I want to meet you in person. I'm worried..” Ryan was silent for a while, then said furiously, ”Julia herself could not speak so harshly to the maid or even to the cook at all times. I don't like to see you having to endure all that disrespectful and rude behavior. For God's sake, Amy, I want to feel like me

you're running straight to Logdewood. I'd love to intercept a taxi, push you into it, and take you right now to Logdewood, take the train at three o'clock past a quarter.”

Amy stop. His nonchalant attitude was invisible

any more. All morning he had to work hard to the point of exhaustion, facing off against the obnoxious buyers and Mr. Ferguson

snapping snapped on. He looked at Ryan with great anger.

”Well, why don't you do that? Lots of taxis

here!”

Ryan looked up at Amy, surprised to see her sudden anger. Still angry, Amy said again, ”What did you come and say those words for? You don't really mean what you say. Do you think those words can comfort me? After being tired of working all morning, and feeling like you're in hell, then being reminded that there's a fun place like Logdewood? Do you think I should feel sorry for you, who seemed to tell you how much you wanted to

took me away leaving all that behind. Your words are sweet, but not sincere. You didn't mean it at all, you said it was Ryan. Don't you know that I'm willing to sell my life to catch a three o'clock train a quarter to Logdewood, escape from everything here? Considering Logdewood alone I can't stand it. Understand you? You mean it's good, Ryan. But you're cruel! You just talk and talk!”

They stood face to face, and were very

pestering passersby for lunch along Peanuts Avenue. But they do not realize what, except themselves. Ryan was still staring at Amy, like a person who suddenly woke up from sleep.

”Alright then,” said. ”You go to Logdewood, take the train at three o'clock through one quarter!”

He lifted up his staff to call forth a fruit

taxi passing by. The taxi stopped near the sidewalk. Ryan opened the door, and Amy who was still a bit confused came in. ”Paddington Station,” Ryan told the driver, then he came in after Amy.

They sit still. Amy's lips are covered

the meetings. His eyes looked defiant and ready to fight.

Ryan looked straight ahead.

Waiting for the traffic light on Albert Street,

Amy said with a bad feeling, ”Her cup I've bullied you.”

”I don't feel bullied,” said Ryan singkat.

The taxi rolled back suddenly.

When the taxi arrived at Abbey Road, it turned

to the left, into Dorswt House, Ryan arrived

realized.

He said, ”We can't take the train at three past a quarter,” then while tapping on the glass

sorry, he said to the driver, ”Go to Whitehall.”

In a cold tone Amy said, ”Why us

can't take the train at three o'clock a quarter?

Ryan smiled at her.

”You haven't brought any goods

your needs, Amy darling. No nightgowns, no toothbrushes, and no shoes for the village. There's still a train five o'clock past a quarter. Let's have lunch first and negotiate it.”

Amy sighs.

”That's your special trait, Ryan. You always remember the side

practically. Acting on impulse is not good, right? Well, anyway, it was a good dream. Let it be.”

He put his hand in Ryan's hand, and he

smile at her with her usual smile.

”I'm sorry I was standing on the sidewalk earlier, and angry at you like a woman who doesn't know manners,” he said. ”Because you were so annoying, Ryan.”

”Ya,” says Ryan, ”I think it is.” They

enter the Whitehall restaurant happily, and find a table by the window. Ryan ordered a really good afternoon. After finishing their meat, Amy

sighed and said, ”I have to quickly back to the store. My time is up.”

”Today you should eat quietly,

although for that I have to go back to your shop and buy half of the clothes there!”

”Ryan is good, you're really very sweet.”

They eat good dessert, then

the waiter brought coffee. Ryan stuck sugar in his coffee and stirred it.

He said, ”You really love Logdewood,

no, Amy?”

”Should we talk about Logdewood again? I've learned that we don't want to take the train at three o'clock by a quarter, and I understand that we don't have to question the train at five o'clock by a quarter, and I understand that we don't have to question the train at five, but don't touch about it again.”

Ryan smiled.

”No, I do not propose that we take the train at five o'clock a quarter. But I need you to go to Logdewood, Amy. I'm asking you to stay there forever and that means you think you can stand up to me.”

Amy looked up at Ryan over the edge

coffee cup. Then put the cup down

the hand he sought to steady and not tremble.

”What do you mean exactly, Ryan?”

”I asked you to marry me, Amy. Admitting,

this proposal is not romantic. I'm a boring guy, I know that, and I'm not very good at anything either. I just read books and do meaningless things. But, even though I'm not a very thrilling person, we've known each other for a long time, and I think, well, I think Logdewood alone will be able to cover everything.

keku. I think you'll be happy at Logdewood, Amy. Will you come with me?”

Two or three times Amy had to gulp, then

he said, ”But I thought... Graciela.” Then he stopped.

In a flat and emotionless voice, Ryan said, ”Yes, three times I asked Graciela to marry me. But every time he refused. Well, Graciela is sure exactly what she doesn't want.”

Silence for a moment, then Ryan said, ”Well, Amy

honey, how?”

Amy lifted her face, looking at Ryan.

His voice was as choked as he said, ”It feels amazing. I feel offered heaven on a plate, in this Whitehall!”
