And the moment that Qi ball broke they would enter the Foundation Core realm. Their Qi would turn into True Qi while breaking through the Foundation Core realm which had strength far above ordinary Qi while at the Qi Gathering realm.

As for Bai Feng because he practiced the Chaos Devouring technique which made his Qi transform into Primal Chaos energy and from the start he entered into the Qi Gathering realm his energy was already in the form of a liquid that was different from another cultivator who only existed in the form of gas.
