Simply put, this is not a simple story.
And this story doesn't start from today.
It is when Judgment Day, where Heaven sent down a great disaster that wiped out nearly half of humanity, that story is just coming out in the thickets of chaos. A young girl stood amidst a sea of corpses and blood, caressed by the hot wind of a huge erupting volcano, and, so far in front of him but felt so close that the smell of sulfur and heat spread to all the senses in his body.
“I'm not afraid.” His heart cried out when faced with the horror that enveloped him. Covering a dirty and torn cloth as her shield, she hugged her own body. She's alone. The heat of the volcanic lava could not defeat his cold-burning heart.
Heaven is angry with man. It is no secret that for thousands of years humans have occupied the earth, they have ruined the entire all-out gift of Heaven. Their abode is built on injustice, their well-being stands on a dilapidated foundation of corruption, their harmony intertwined on deception. Their selves, once the noblest creations with all the gifts of goodness and virtue, beauty and honor, have been undermined by evil and indifference, selfishness and barbarity. Some people realize they have fallen, some do not, others choose to pretend indifference even though they have fallen.
No wonder Heaven was angry and decided to punish the humans. No one can blame Heaven. In fact, it is only fitting that the Heaven that has bestowed man this much fortune and abundance sheds its wrath.
“But I'm not afraid.” The young girl's heart exclaimed again in a clear voice, yet it sounded confused. This confusion was solely due to the whisper of his little heart that suddenly exclaimed “Why am I not afraid?” among his consciousness.
The volcano before him again erupted hot lava and rock fragments, returning his consciousness to a dangerous reality. He realized that everyone was dead, and soon, this entire area would be surrounded by hot lava rivers. He can't ask anyone for help or anything, so he has to make a decision.
“I am not afraid, but if I continue to be here I will die silly,” so the decision he made in his heart. He twisted his body, not spending more time lamenting the sorrow that enveloped his surroundings. No, he can't even grieve. Who knew whether Heaven's punishment was over or not? If not, he still has to find his safety. Only when this cataclysmic streak was over could he be swept away in his emotions.
His first step came to a halt and his eyes looked straight ahead. The astonishment colored the look on his face. A contrasting sight was happening before him.
It was a tall man, much taller than himself, he was sure of that even though their distance was still far apart. The girl was not very tall, but her height was normal for a woman, and she was sure that she was very tall even for a man. The man was wearing a bright red shirt, looking like a long coat (or even a bathrobe) that dangled to the limit of his knees. He did not know if the coat was thick or thin, but he could see the slender body and the man's level showed his muscular lines and body shape from behind the mantle. He figured maybe the coat material was good. His golden buttons glistened as if reflecting the light from the red lava. His black pants looked clean with a very dark and brilliant black color. On his neck, coiling a thin golden scarf gleamed. He wore a black eye patch on his left eye.
Clad with an aura of mystery, he walked over while opening the red-colored umbrella in his left hand. The umbrella is large and wide, but not curved, and the gait is straight rather long. It was not raining, if the man was walking in the middle of a metropolitan city, everyone would probably think he was at a fashion show, and he was the model. His long black hair rested on his smooth flat shoulders.
Questions like: who is he? What's he doing here? Where'd he come from? Why does it look like that? And so it flashed on the girl's head. But one thing broke out among the noise in his head, “he doesn't deserve to be here.”
The closer the man got to her, the more clearly he could see her. The man's skin was pale, his lips were also a bit pale, making him look a bit sick. But looking at his long eye book, firm eyebrows, and high nose, slender jaw, the man qualified above average. She looks more like a model dressed in a pale all-round style. When the man stopped before her, the girl observed that her black eyes had a purplish luster.
The man thrust his umbrella, so that now they are both behind the shadow of the big red umbrella. “Where to?” the man opened his mouth. His voice is heavy and smooth. This was the first sentence flowing in this place since the girl was standing staring at the volcano.
“Oh,” the girl making a sound. His first voice since he arrived here. “Go from here,” said. He did not drive the man away, but instead expressed his desire to leave. Not hearing or seeing the response from the man, he continued, saying, “You?” this question appeared simpler than his shadow. The girl imagined that she was making out and asked a lot about the man. You're who? What are you doing here? Where you going? Why did you come to this place and meet me? Any business with me?
“I'll go wherever you go.”
Oh. The girl opened her mouth slightly, confused. His eyebrows also lifted slightly. But a few seconds later he closed his mouth, and his face returned empty of emotion. “Did you find a safe place? I thought you were from there, looking at your appearance.”
“If you want to go there, I can drive you,” replied the man.
The girl muttered for a moment. “I just want to find a place where the gods won't bestow their anger. A place they will never destroy. Is there such a place in this mortal world? Sounded contrast.”
The red man smiled. His smile seemed to be sneering, perhaps he could not believe what had just come out of the girl's mouth. “God,” he started. With just one word, the girl changed her hypothesis. This man did not sneer at his words, but he was making fun of the gods. “Will bestow their sea of anger upon the world and men, but they will try half-dead to win back their human hearts. After relinquishing his punishment to humans, they will give leeway so that humans return to worship them. If that is true, then your contrasting words were not impossible.”
The girl was stunned. He asked earlier only as a rhetorical expression, plus a slight desire to prank the man. But the man's answer made him think again. “Such a place really exists?” the girl asked back.
“There...” the man stopped. Now he stared at the volcano that began to spew lava and rock massively.
The girl, unable to guess what the man was doing or thinking, asked again, “You know where it is?”
“I know. If you want to go there, let me come with you.” He returned his eyes to the girl.
The girl flinched. “You'll take me there, won't you? I should have asked your permission to drop me off.”
The man smiled back. This time his smile was not a joke, but softer. “Do you mind walking with me?” tanyakanya.
“No. This will be our journey together,” replied the girl.
Hearing this, the man smiled wider. “Let's go. I'll paddle you all the way, so don't get far from me.”
The two began walking together under the shade of the red umbrella, and the girl could not help but feel her curiosity. “What do you love me for?”
The girl nodded in her head, understanding that no matter what the man said in her ear, she was just trying to make suppositions. Her image of gods and humans could agree with. So, it was no big deal if the man would concoct more poetic sentences about gods and humans. He continued to travel in silence, side by side with the mysterious man.
They came out of the forest and found the main road paved. It was the connecting road between the city he used to live in with other cities. The two cities were indeed separated by a rather large forest area, and a mountain stood in the middle of the 3 cities that surrounded it. That mountain is erupting right now. Speaking of the mountain, the girl looked behind her and realized that the mountain was still erupting violently, but the fine ash no longer fell on her head. He looked up and thanked inwardly to the man's wide umbrella that covered them.
However he tried to think positively, he could only sigh when he looked back at the street before him. Moments ago before the volcano erupted, there was a rather large earthquake. Apparently the earthquake damaged the road and made landslides in several parts. Can they get through that road?
“Follow me and don't be far from next to me.” As if answering a question in the little girl's heart, the man said out loud. He advanced with confident steps down the trees around them. The path they had traveled was very close to the paved road, but the man was still covering around the forest. Somewhat far from their initial steps, they finally arrived at a paved path that was still passable. There were cracks and holes here and there, but the girl was sure that they could get through that path. Sure enough, the man took him to the paved streets.
However, this girl was still filled with a strange feeling even since her eyes first looked at the mysterious man. No, he was not afraid, but confused. If there's one thing that girls always pursue, it's curiosity. He could not help himself to figure out something and many things. Often, later curiosity can help him when the situation is not profitable fortunately.
So, he decided to talk. “I'm sorry if I'm presumptuous, but I can't hold my mouth. I really want to know, are you human?”
Most people would be confused to hear a question like this and find it funny. But this girl wasn't kidding. His thirst for answers made his mind and heart itch. Lucky for him, this man did not laugh at his question, or feel offended, at least that was the picture the girl got. The man was silent for a moment with an emotionless face and a straight look, then after the half-minute sampir went silent, he looked at the girl. A smile adorned his face.
“Not.”
The girl was silent, unconsciously stopping her steps and the man did the same. The two stared silently under the shadow of an umbrella. Still glued to her position, the girl asked again, “Then why did you come to me? To help me?”
“I came to take your soul.”
The girl's eyes widened, her eyebrows raised and her eyes then blinked a few times. He doesn't believe it! But it was not that he did not believe the man's words, but rather that he did not believe that something had actually come to him to kill him.
“You came to kill me?”
This time the man laughed. “Taking your soul is not the same as killing you. Do you still want to walk with me? I promise I'll explain it to you if you're willing to listen.”
He had just survived a mass slaughter by an earthquake and volcano, and was now faced with something intent on killing him. Is this a sign that he must die soon? Indeed, all humans will die eventually, but finding these kinds of events in a row of time, the girl begins to suspect that she might die in the near future, or even he should have died in the previous sad event and now death comes to haunt him.
He knew very well that the entire universe was working very well, and everything was destined to happen with a certain purpose. Accepting his death was one he had to do, all humans did, and he had to be willing to give up his life in the mortal realm. He rounded his resolve once more and took a breath of courage, then walked back to the man's side. The man followed in his footsteps, while faithfully courting the two.
“I will not kill you, but when you die, I will take your soul. It is not I who will cause your death,” the man said slowly so that the girl could digest his words. “On Judgment Day, many people will die and eventually their souls will be taken away. I'll take your soul.”
Even with such clear words, the girl could not get rid of the thought that it was this man who would deal with her death. For him, it was rather difficult to ignore the possibility that this man was related to his death. Even he had trouble distinguishing the sense of ‘kill’ and ‘taking soul’ from the point of view of the man, so he kept his belief in his heart and locked it.
“How much longer? Will I die during Judgment Day?”
The man replied, “The Day of Judgment lasts for eleven days. In that period various calamities and misfortunes will descend upon the earth and wipe out much of the mortal world. I can't say for sure, but we should both wait until the next ten days.”
“Not death is a sure thing? If I am destined to die today, then I will die today.”
The man smiled gently and shook his head slowly. “It's true, but it's not that simple. Even when the gods have prepared a destiny for you, thanks to the love of the other gods, you humans still have the right to freedom over your own lives. If you try to make your way, try and successfully avoid the darkness that is eating away at the hearts of men, regretting your evil deeds, and trying to become a better individual, the gods can give their love to their humans, even pardon them from bad luck. If you have done so, even though you are doomed to die today, you can live until tomorrow, another ten years or so, depending on the affection of the gods.”
So even when the gods were really angry at the humans, they still had affection for the humans. Nothing is completely black or completely white. Everything is a complex unity of various natures and characters. Some were acting white but their hearts were dirty as black as soot. There are also white ones but choose the dark path. Nothing can be judged as big as an eyelash.
The two fell silent again along the way, because after the man spoke the girl no longer answered him. Both of them dissolved in silence to the point that the man opened his mouth again.
“Are you afraid of me? Once you know I've come to take your soul, it's almost like waiting and letting you die alone and robbing you, do you still want to walk with me?”
“I'm not afraid.” The girl's voice appeared. The voice that had echoed in his heart was now flowing from his mouth. “You will take me to a place where the anger of the gods is not touched. If I die in the middle of the road, then I thank you for accompanying me on this journey. In fact, I'm sorry you had to go back alone to find another soul that you were going to take. But before that happens, I look forward to us arriving at our destination, a place where the wrath of the gods is untouched. If it's true there, I want to see it with my own eyes.” He paused for a moment, then looked at the man without stopping to walk. “You will still take me there, right?”
While looking at the young girl's face, the man smiled in astonishment. His smile is so charming and mysterious, because he is actually the mysterious man who emits a mysterious aura. No words can describe the emotion in his face when he looked at the girl and smiled, other than ‘terpesona’.
“Iya. I will take you to see with your own eyes, a place where the anger of the gods is not touched.”
This answer was enough for the girl to push her back on her way without saying much. Apparently, the girl was very evocative of the red man, so it was not long since the two had returned to silence, the man raised his voice again. "What's your name?"
A unique glint appeared naturally from the girl's eyes. As long as he lived, he had never seen how others looked at him, so he had no idea that his eyes were glittering. He looked at the man as he replied, "Faith."
