Part 21 - New Year's Eve with an Ex
It doesn't feel like we're entering December. This is a month of blessing for all Christians. Where they can celebrate Christmas with their family and church friends. This month is the time to be ready for all family members to eat together.
For Grace, it was not a very anticipated month. Usually when Christmas comes, he is just busy with church activities without gathering with family. Moreover, the Grace family itself is Christian among other families.
Different from Grace's friends. In West Kalimantan, December is a big month. Where all the family and neighbors will gather together and visit each other. Christmas for them is not enough just one day or even a week, considering the majority of the Christian population. They will go to one house to another. Every visit, they will enjoy the dishes of the host. Not just a dish, do not hesitate they will prepare wine for visitors. Stuffed food neatly arranged on the table. Every visitor is free to enjoy it.
But this time, this year, they will get a different experience. They cannot make cakes with family, not hug each other, not shake hands, not serve each other and do not pray for each other with eyes. The longing for this kind of atmosphere was clearly plastered on their faces. I miss being with family and friends. But what it can do, education and a future that requires them to separate and leave everything. Hope the time continues to pass so that they can be with them again in their hometown.
In December, in addition to welcoming Christmas and welcoming the new year, they must also welcome the final semester exam. Where all students must account for all that has been learned and test to where their abilities so far.
Just at the beginning of the month, Grace has begun to focus on learning. Repeating and remembering the lessons given by his teachers. Grace doesn't want to waste time. All he had to do was study earnestly, the matter of the outcome of the later affairs because the process would not betray the results.
Most people would have thought that Grace never studied because during study hours, she would do what she liked. But they didn't see when Grace could find the right time to study. Sometimes before everyone wakes up in the morning, Grace has opened a book to read or if it is a break, Grace will take the time to learn. Whenever Grace could study in secret.
By the middle of the month, they should be ready to fight against the test. For Grace everything can be overcome except history and Geography. Two subjects that Grace doesn't like at all. These two subjects will really drain Grace's brain and memory. Must study harder in order to get satisfactory grades. At least above 7 already felt enough to remember two lessons that weakened Grace's brain.
One week of exams is over. They are ready to wait for the results of the test to be shared. Luckily while preparing for the exam, Anes does not come to visit her so as not to disturb Grace's concentration.
One by one the test results are shared. No doubt about it. Grace gets the best value compared to her friends even from the results of the report, Grace ranks first. Grace briefly recalled Peter's promise that he would give a gift if he got the best grade or rating. But they are no longer in a relationship, making it impossible for Grace to collect on the promise. Grace also considers this ranking not too important or special. It's a common thing. Even Grace was not satisfied.
After receiving the report, they were given time to take a vacation from school activities. They are free to go on vacation. But there is one event together that they must follow, namely Christmas with all members of the dorm. They were busy preparing for the event. Starting from music and MC exercises, drama dance exercises, dance exercises and preparing all equipment or decoration materials.
When the anticipated day arrives for the celebration of Christmas together, each of them prepares the heart for worship and displays what they have trained. Joy is drawn on their faces to replace the longing in their hometowns.
After Christmas, they are allowed to take a vacation. For Grace it's easy. Stay home because to get there only takes 60 minutes of travel. Usually during this vacation, there are friends Grace who will come along.
For the December holiday this time, Grace will enjoy the end of the year at the hostel just like last year. A classic reason, why Grace does not stay at home because at home will not be able to go anywhere. While in the dorm, Grace will enjoy a new year's night with friends. Exactly with the heart.
After a week's vacation, Grace returned to the dorm. Grace promised Anes a new year together in her dorm.
The end of the month at the end of this year comes. Anes comes to Grace's dorm to pick her up so she can leave together because Grace doesn't know her place yet. But when Anes arrives at Grace's dorm, Anes changes her mind about leaving together. He has business with his friend. Coincidentally at that time, Bu Tri was coming to the dormitory for school affairs so Grace set off with Bu Tri and Anes would follow.
Grace leaves with Ms. Tri. Huge hope, Anes will follow soon. Upon arriving at Terminal Tertonadi, Grace tells Bu Tri that her father works inside and surprises Bu Tri.
"Mom, my dad works here" Grace said, showing her hands at the terminal.
"Oya??? Lah, aren't you a West Kalimantan man?" ask Bu Tri who is still curious.
"No Ma'am. I'm a real person here." replied Grace.
"Your dog is like a Dayak."
"Yes Mom. You hang out with Dayaks, boyfriends and Dayaks."
"Oalah.." concluded Bu Tri who still slightly do not believe if Grace is a true Javanese. Javanese face but Dayak logic, that's approx.
Bu Tri continued to drive the two-wheeled vehicle until it entered the alley towards him.
"This is their dormitory." show Bu Tri.
"Oh.." replied Grace briefly.
Arriving at Bu Tri's house, Grace rested for a while because later tonight there will be worship closed the year. After the break, Grace invited Bu Tri to Bu Sugeng's house. Unsuspectedly. It turned out that the congregation from Bu Tri Church had heard the story that Grace was Anes' girlfriend. It's not a secret anymore. And Bu Sugeng was happy to hear that.
At exactly 19:00, the closing service at the end of the year began. And members of Anes dormitory also attended worship there. Grace meets her old friends including Grace's ex, Peter.
Grace waits for Anes but does not come until Grace gets the news that Anes is not coming.
"Oh, that's really people. He's there while I'm here. Wanting a new year's night with a boyfriend instead failed." murmured Grace who was a little irritated, seen in the look of her face that had frowned. "What the fuck? You know that didn't go first?" keep muttering Grace.
"Grace, join the show at the church there yok, later picked up. You go to your dorm." Take Richard a close friend of Peter's.
"Tell Ms. Tri first." replied Grace. And Grace went to see Ms. Tri for permission. After getting permission, Grace was with them to the male-occupied dormitory.
"Bang.." said Grace to her ex-boyfriend and they chatted together facing North towards the dorm position while looking at the road ahead.
"Grace, why don't you believe me? There are those who like Brother but Brother's heart remains the same as yours. When you broke up, brother was really shocked. Bummer. Brother is stressed. Brother can't eat and Brother becomes thin." Grace listened to all of Peter's words and stories with guilt.
"I'm sorry." This is all Grace can say. Grace's decision to end the relationship with Brother was not about having a girl who likes it but an inconvenience." murmured Grace who did not want to be honest about her feelings.
Grace had heard that Peter was really stressed and disappointed with Grace's decision. Until Grace heard from Nita Ricard's girlfriend that Peter had asked for a balloon. Nita also did not explain why Peter asked for the balloon. It's obvious to entertain yourself.
"Come, it's been picked up" said Peter disperse his reverie.
New Year's Eve plans to be with her boyfriend but instead together with her ex. Then they attended a youth event in the Church where they usually worship other than in the Bu Tri church. It is actually the central church of Grace Church.
"Thank you for the invitation given to us street buskers. We are personally very pleased with this invitation. It was incredible. Hopefully this is not the first time and the last time we can be together with all our friends. Most people don't want to look at us or accept us because we're street kids. They think we're trouble makers. Snagging for this and that. We are living because of the need of life. Once again thank you for inviting and accepting us." All the invitations clapped together to appreciate it.
"Waaawwww. Justjust wonderful. They can survive in a good way. Not stealing and harming others. Next please." said the MC pointing to someone sitting in a wheelchair.
"I would also like to thank you for the invitation of all my friends. Thankful that I can meet you tonight. I was disabled since birth. Since my parents didn't want me. They rejected my birth. I wanted to be removed, but God wanted something else. God allowed me to be born into the world and then banished. Until I finally get to meet my friends. They are our family. We are street kids but we just want to survive. As long as we're alive, we'll keep working to make ends meet."
"Let's give a round of applause." All applause. "God is awesome. He has a beautiful plan. Maybe at this time the beautiful plan was not in sight. But believe God's purpose is to make us a blessing and a light wherever we are. I'm willing to sing"

The show ended with a dinner together. After eating, they were brought home by their church friends. Grace is back at Bu Tri's house because tomorrow she has to go back to the dorm.
"Thank God, even though tonight wasn't with Anes, there was something God wanted to tell me that I should be grateful for in every way. I was really inspired by them from both the invited guests and the church that held the event. No loss not to be with Anes." Grace prayed.
It was a great day for Grace. After the event, Grace wanted to create the same event for those less fortunate. Grace wants her life, her future and her family to be useful to others. Therefore, Grace strengthens herself so that the spirit of learning so that when successful later can help those in need.
Grace also arrived at Bu Tri's house and had to go to bed as soon as possible so that she could go straight to the dormitory tomorrow.
