Part 17 - Peak
Along with the activities that Grace participated in, slowly she was able to forget that Wanto and Wanto had stopped to pursue Grace. Same with his relationship with Peter. Grace is used to having her days without Peter.
Peter once called Grace by boarding phone, but Grace refused to accept him. Peter once came to visit Grace but Grace ignored him by pretending to be asleep. Peter stroked his forehead and his messy hair lay on the pillow. But Grace was not at all wrinkled. Grace is a sensitive person when she sleeps. He would easily wake up with just a soft voice let alone until stroked, it was impossible not to wake up. He just pretended to sleep because he was lazy to meet Peter.
Indeed Grace's heart is a little cruel with people she doesn't like but it's not time to decide. Grace knew that asking for a breakup would really stress Peter out. It could be more stressful with his ex. Grace wanted to find the right time.
With the looks of capital Peter alone can actually find a girlfriend who is more than Grace. But because Peter is already in love and he is the type of loyal person then it will not be easy for him to turn away.
All the participants of nature lovers are preparing to leave. And so is Grace. Grace prepared instant noodles, water and clothes to be worn to make sure that it was enough to keep her a little warm and not make it difficult when climbing later.
For this first time travel opportunity there are 23 people including Mr. Londa & nature lovers coach who will be a guide, there are only 5 women including Grace.
After all gathered in front of the dormitory, they prayed together to ask for protection from God while on the way to the foot of the mountain until the moment to the top and down from the top.
The coach of nature lovers also explained the terrain they will pass, the possibilities that may occur and how to overcome them, what not to do when climbing and how things will be at the top.
With great enthusiasm, they departed from the dormitory because the hike will be done at night. There was joy from their hearts.
The car that drove them was ready to take them. One by one luggage is raised and one by one they take a comfortable position so as not to get tired prematurely.
Straight roads, downhill roads, uphill roads and winding roads they passed until finally they reached the foot of the mountain, post entrance counter.
They got out of the car and all the stuff was taken down. Then it is confirmed that no items are left in the car. Then they gathered at basecamp to receive instructions and make registration and payment.
After the business at the counter was over, they prayed again for the ascent asking for protection and strength from God. At approximately 21:00 they went to climb to Mount Lawu.
Mount Lawu is a volcano located on the border between Central Java and East Java. The height of Mount Lawu reaches 3,265 masl and makes it the fifth highest mountain in Java. Mount Lawu has three peaks namely Hargo Dalem Peak, Hargo Damiling, and Hargo Dumilah.
From the basecamp we walked about 2 hours already at post 1, a place called Taman Sari Bawah which is at an altitude of 2,237 masl. While at post 1, they take a short break to wet their throats with the mineral water they carry to get energy to post 2.
The journey continues to post 2, the track is getting uphill, the scenery in the form of lush forests, smell of sulfur and sometimes the rumbling sound of Candradimuka crater is heard in the ears. The travel time is about 1.5 hours. They took a break to gather energy again.
After walking for about 3 hours, they arrived at post 3 which was marked by a small building, only able to accommodate 1 tent only. While in this post called Penggik, they can see the incredible natural scenery. Grace was also surprised to see it.
Towards post 4, still in the form of a fairly draining climb, around a hill, there are Edelweis flowers on the edge of the track. On the way, they found Sendang Panguripan, a very clear and refreshing spring and considered sacred by some people on the slopes of Mount Lawu. In this Post four they stop and enjoy the instant noodles they bring and cook them with the simple utensils they carry while making a warm drink.
"Wihhhhhh... directly cold this noodles and water." Grace commented while enjoying the noodles that had just come out of the furnace.
After eating and drinking, they continued their journey again towards post five.
After walking for about 1.5 hours, they arrived at post 5, the only climbing post on Mount Lawu that has no buildings. In this Post they can also see the beautiful scenery and Edelweis flowers spread so beautiful that makes Grace interested to pluck it. Post with the name of this Density is a crossroads. Right to Hargo Dumilah, left to Hargo Tiling and Straight to Hargo Dalem.
From post 5 to the top of Dalem travel approximately for 30 minutes. At the top of Hargo Dalem, there are Prabu Brawijaya firecrackers and the legendary Mbok Yem stalls. There is also a shop that provides various kinds of food and drinks.
The journey to the highest peak of Mount Lawu is a very heavy journey for them, especially for Grace. They had to walk down the road with the crater on the left and the ravine on the right. Be careful when choosing a footing. This is where Grace had a misdirection and almost mired into the abyss when she previously warned her friend if there is a ravine. Luckily one of the friends behind him was on standby so he immediately held Grace's hand. Grace was saved. Travel time is about 30 minutes.
Finally they arrived at the top of Mount Lawu.
"Waaawwww.. what a beautiful creation of God." murmured Grace who was amazed to see the scenery in all directions.
The cold weather penetrated into the bones. The clothes Grace was wearing were unable to warm. And Grace always had a crazy idea. He got into his classroom hide-and-seek to seek warmth. One glove both.
Grace enjoyed the sunrise from the east. He was really amazed by the sight.
"His beauty cannot be expressed in words. It was incredible. Thank God for the opportunity to enjoy this beauty." said Grace in a heart amazed by the beauty of nature that spoils her.
As a memory, they also took pictures together. No exception with Grace and Indra. Indra invites Grace to take a picture together.
"Grace yuk photo." invite Indra who immediately answered Grace by getting closer.
When the camera is pointed at them, Indra suddenly raises her hand to Grace's shoulder and makes Grace surprised. Luckily, only once did they do the photo procession.
After being satisfied to enjoy the scenery at the top of Lawu, finally this group decided to go down so that when arriving at the basecamp was not too late.
"Okay everybody get together.we're going down now. Stay together yeah. Don't search. We pray first." said the builder who gave a brief warning.
They descend during the day so it is not too difficult to pass every road they pass.
While on the way, Indra always walks by Grace's side which makes Grace wonder why Indra is always beside her. All this time, they were not close enough. Are there any pent-up feelings for Grace during the trip? Grace dismissed all her thoughts because her relationship with Peter was not over either. But Grace was still curious about her attitude. Sometimes Indra also invites Grace to talk while on the trip.
"Let's get some spirit. Just a little bit more down below." Mr. Londa said with Grace's hand.
Grace seemed to get a donation of energy from Mr. Londa until finally able to reach the basecamp again safely.
Arriving at basecamp, they rest for a while to stretch the muscles and add energy to go home. There is the joy of victory and success from the faces of those who have conquered the Lawu mountain. There is a bit of pride in the heart despite the fatigue it feels.
The cateran's car has come to take them back to the dorm. They got in that car too. After it was confirmed that all the members had entered, the car was driven.
That downhill and winding road has been passed. Story after story their excitement at the top became a color in silence. But there are also those who fall asleep because of exhaustion.
"I got off at X yes sir." Grace told the driver.
"Good." replied the driver.
When she almost got to where Grace meant to be, Grace again told the driver not to forget. It took 5 minutes after Grace told the driver, Grace finally arrived. The car that drove away finally stopped.
"Thank you sir. Thank you all. See you later." said Grace as she got out of the car.
Grace didn't come back to the dorms because she had to go to church tomorrow. So Grace goes home to her brother's place for help tomorrow morning.
After a 15-minute walk from the highway, Grace finally reached her cousin's house. Grace's older cousin is almost similar to Yusak. When she saw her cousin's sister, Grace was reminded of Yusak who was no longer in the dormitory because of illness so she had returned to her city.
One night Grace stayed at the house and the next morning between her cousin's sisters arrived at the church just as Grace had wanted. Grace always spends her weekends at home and going to church in her village.
The weekend is over. His time with his friends and family is over. On Monday morning Grace had to return to the dormitory to continue her schooling.
Grace arrives at the hostel to gather with her friends and return to her true activities. Injured Grace sees Indra along with her class adek.
"It turns out you have a boyfriend? that's her boyfriend?" grace asked inwardly. "I have to investigate and make sure, is this true? If this is true, why is it that on the summit he walked beside me, a photo with even his hands clutched on my shoulders?" grace was getting curious. Not because he was jealous. More precisely what is with Indra.
After several days of attention, Grace's guess is correct that Indra has a relationship with the girl. That seems obvious. They often sit together, walk together even Indra clothes washed the same woman.
"Oh, it's good that they're dating. My curiosity has been answered who Indra's boyfriend really is." murmured Grace who made him finally satisfied because she had found the answer.
Finally they print photos of the shots they took at the top. Grace did the same. But Grace just took a photo that all the members were there and a photo of the two together with Indra. It was enough for mementos later that he had conquered Mount Lawu.
After Grace saw the results, "That's very satisfied. Goody. Cool. This hahaha. Hah, it's me who wears a sarong and a head covering." Grace muttered commenting on the photo.
After seeing his picture with Indra, his face turned slightly wrinkled.
"How could yesterday have taken a picture with him. Ah, these hands carelessly put on people's shoulders. Maybe for him it was common but for me to invite this thousand meanings. She already has a boyfriend. If her boyfriend knows how? Is it not raging? But his girlfriend seemed to be quiet .." he comments again looking at the second photo.
After returning to the dormitory, Grace's feelings were more pleased. First, because Peter was gone, rarely contacted and rarely came. Second, because Wanto seems to have given up. If the matter of Wanto, indeed Grace did not bother let alone her different beliefs, smokers and drunkards. That was completely against the criteria with Grace
But about Peter, Grace had heard that Peter was liked by a girl near his dorm. If Peter turns away, Grace will let it go. Grace did not bother and did not want to take care of the love problem. Especially having to fight. Better just give up and take it, Grace thought. Even Grace is ready to step down from her relationship with Peter.
