After we said goodbye to Fatimah's mother we all finally decided to go home together. We stepped foot with a sense of excitement because today we came home with useful knowledge no longer home empty-handed and a feeling of disappointment.
As usual we passed through a forest of trees that are so beautiful while occasionally telling stories about the lessons you have learned dance in school however, our steps slowly swallowed with a constant of confusion staring at some people who seemed to cut down some trees even had many trees that he cut produce scattered tree trunks.
I do not understand why men today cut down trees belonging to the forest of our village makes me turn to look at my friends one by one who is also equally confused.
"Sir! Why was this tree cut down? This is the forest of Swatani village," I asked when I met a man who was busy relaxing while enjoying a cup of coffee he brought.
"Where are you from?' he was not happy to be asked by us.
"We are the village children and this is our forest. Who and where did you come from, why did you cut down a tree in this forest?" ask me who is a little presumptuous for daring to ask like this to them.
Yeah, I'm not happy that they cut down this forest.
"Hi, boy! Don't disturb those lumberjacks!"
The sound of reprimand made me and my friends turn to look at the man who was stepping closer to us. Stature that looks firm, a thick mustache with a yellow helmet that completes his head.
"Who are you looking for?"
"We're passing here sir. We're coming home from school. We are Swatani village children" Mansur replied with his papal accent making me a little confident to talk to all of them.
"The forest village along this road has been purchased" he pointed with his index finger making us follow in what direction the man's index finger was pointing.
"Buy it?"
"Yes, the townspeople who have bought it and the intention is we will build paved roads here."
"For what?"
"For the good of all. The people of the city had bought this land to make asphalt so that the villagers and the people of the city could freely go in and out of the village into the city without the need to bother through the dense forest."
"But why cut down?"
"Of course it has to be cut down then where do we have to build asphalt? Is it above the sky?" he made the workers laugh while we looked at him with a displeased look, this is not funny, my friend.
"But isn't cutting down a tree so recklessly no good?"
"It's not just cutting down trees like you said, it's official even to have this land fill us up by ordering us to cut them down."
"This land no longer belongs to the village but to the people of the city who have bought this land."
"Who sold it?" asked Mansur tightly to make Samal, the skinny who was also a coward, quickly pulled Mansur.
"Quick! I'm afraid they're fighting! They're adults and we're just kids. We can't fight with him. Let's go!" samal whispered then he pulled Mansur while Jono was also busy pulling me.
I just don't want to see the forest we've always been through and we admire the beauty of nature that was cut down just like that.
Along the way I could see the technological tools used to cut down the trees just one swipe and it managed to topple the trees making the innocent apes in the tree jump left and right while screaming in fear.
Actually I am also happy because in this village soon will be built paved roads so me and my friends will not be hard-earned to walk through the forest to school but me too not willing if our forests are cut down just like that.
How wide the paved road they made so that so many forest trees they cut down. There used to be a lot of trees around us that grew tall but, one by one fell down just like that until the sunlight spread to make the ground hot, all the flat left.
The time came when we wanted to pass the river where we always cross now we could see some people who were busy pointing towards the river making me and friends also look at each other.
Yes of course my mind and my friends are the same, what are they doing here? Somehow Mansur got so much courage and chose to step up to the man who was wearing a yellow helmet.
"Sir what are you doing in this place?" his question very boldly made me and some other friends can only set each other.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Mansur, the children of Swatani village." What are you doing here?"
"We're just here to carry out the order."
"What order is that sir?"
"We were told to build a bridge that connects the village to the forest."
"But what is the need to cut down trees as well?"
"Yes of course. Where would the bridge be if every side of the forest to the village wasn't cut down by trees."
"But you are ruining our environment. Our forests are also being damaged because of the Father who cut down our forests."
"Son, we came here just to carry out an order," he replied, staring back at the river as it looked very busy.
"But doesn't that mean you've been torturing our forest?" I made the man look over.
"Torturing?" his eyes don't understand.
"So you don't see monkeys jumping left and right because their houses have been cut down? Trees are also being dropped so where do our forest animals live?"
"True sir," I said and said again, "if you cut down the trees in the forest then it means you also damage the houses of animals in the forest."
"How would you feel if you were in such a position?"
"It's none of our business. We just carry out the orders" he said, then quickly withdraw Mansur did not want Mansur to talk to the man again.
Actually I was also afraid he was angry and hit Mansur. Ah, don't know how the story goes anymore if the big man hits us.
Throughout the journey, Mansur was indignantly unclear without a word of stop. We all understand what is felt and what is being thought by the Mansur.
Of course he was annoyed by the arrival of people from the city and just cut down the trees in our village.
