THEM
From the round window in the kitchen Anjeli can see the table where there is Raya. Raya is not alone now. A friend of hers who a few days ago asked about Raya was sitting at a table.
Anjeli did not not know who his friend was. Name's Bobby. He was the manager of a music school. A few nights ago she asked as Raya swiped her violin on stage. Coincidentally at that time Anjeli was delivering food to the next table.
“Li, who's on stage? New feeling see?”
Anjeli approached, drying his hands with his apron “My friend, his name is Raya. He just played here. Why?”
“Nothing, the play is good tuh.”
“I also just saw him play twice three times, but I think he's a violinist.”
“I'm the same she can meet ya?”
“You what?”
“Business!”
“Now, ten minutes later he's in order.”
Bobby shakes “I want to go back now, how about the day after tomorrow?”
Then a promise was made. And now the two men meet. Somewhat long. And just looking from far away. Anjeli really did not want to disturb.and then an hour later he found Raya again sitting alone.
“Have I met Bobby?”
Raya nodded. Drink the rest of the tea. There was something in his eyes, Anjeli knew that. But he reluctantly asked, waiting for Raya to speak.
One minute.
Two minutes.
No one spoke, each followed his thoughts. Let's stream. Specially? Wouldn't the mind flow freely if it were left? Anjeli Included. He enjoyed the strains of the song that he might have heard hundreds of times, waiting for a story to be stored on the eyelids of the Kingdom.
Until he finally couldn't bear to ask
“Raya, what's up?”
Raya replied calmly. As if without emotion. “There was an offer to attend A Tribute to Beethoven's concert in Japan, he said of some sort of middle-class performance. But I have to practice here for two months, just leaving. The players are getting cut from several music schools.”
Anjeli. She went far?
“Why? You don't seem to like it?”
Anjeli smiled “I like, even I am happy, you want to leave?”
“Maybe..” the answer was floating, then continued after a pause of one two seconds “I don't know yet. All this time I played the violin just for me, just channeling loneliness and filling time. Never have I done it for anyone else.”
“Once in a while do that to please people!” That sentence was more like an order.
Raya fell silent. Really he did not think the conversation would be this far, he just wanted to report the news from Boby. Raya never thought it was good news. Or surprising. Raya just assumed that even if she left, just to get away from this city. Sometimes she feels like she needs to go away for a while (or a long time?).
Maybe by leaving I can find something else that was once lost. Maybe by taking a distance everything will return to normal. So he often said.
“When is the first exercise?” Anjeli broke the silence
“Next week. Do you think I should go?”
This time it was Anjeli's turn to be silent. He really doesn't know anything. Once again he felt strange, usually he did not care what happened to the people around him. But this time it was as if Raya was part of his feelings as well. Hearing this news Anjeli like knowing the objections of Raya's heart.
“I don't know, but if you want to go then just go, I think it's good for your violin career. It's not good to play just for yourself. Don't others need happiness? And that happiness may come through music. Are we unhappy when we bring that happiness to their hearts? But I think you better ask your mother, maybe her consideration will be more mature.”
Raya turned her head, Anjeli could catch the unease in those eyes
“You think that far?”
Anjeli just shrugged, Raya also knew she had the girl's eyes there was unease. The question is, is it the same anxiety?
