Who Me?

“If your life should be drifting to protect those who are precious to me, though my hands should be dirty with blood and sin, I don't care!”

– Misaki –

“Again, Misaki. Remember, today we are working group, yes,” greet Mitsuha.

“Oh, yes. Where will we work in a group?” ask Misaki.

“What if we research Okigahara forest? It's scary in there, you know. Hahaha you must be scared, ‘kan?” ledek Mitsuha's.

Misaki grinned. He stood up from the wooden bench he had been sitting on. His scary face was pointed at Mitsuha as usual.

“Who said? Okigahara forest, yes. In accordance with our duties. We can study a lot of rare plants there. It's decided, tomorrow we go there.”

Age, one of the most important elements of human life. Especially for Misaki, she has supernatural powers, being able to see the rest of the human lifespan is her ability. He could see the rest of his own lifespan and the ages of those around him. For Misaki, life is very important, so anything will be done to get the rest of the old life.

After returning from campus, Misaki looked into the mirror. How shocked he was, the rest of his lifespan was extremely thin. Eyes reddened like fire, a sign he was using the power of his to see the rest of his lifespan. He looked at the mirror. The worry and fear emanated clearly from the pale face of his pas.

“Name: Misaki Yagami, Leftover Age: Seven Days”

Misaki opened her red eyes wide. “What happened to me?” he was shocked and could not believe what he saw. “My eyes, red?” Misaki slowly approached towards the mirror, caressing her shadow which was more akin to a demon. “Seven days? W-is that right?” His gaze was so sharp that tears began to melt from his eyelids. His mentality is disturbed. Between shock, shock, panic, and fear, he broke the mirror with both hands until it bled.

“I don't want to see this! I am still long!”

“What's up, baby?” yelled his mother from below. Misaki is still tight-lipped. He still can't believe what he has.

Misaki daydreamed, she was afraid that if what she saw was really real, what if the rest of her life was only seven days away? The thought continued to haunt his brain, until he fell asleep. In his dream, Misaki sees herself beginning to sink into a wild world that turns her into a monster. In his dream, he killed many people for the sake of gaining an extra age. His body was covered in blood from the person he killed. And when he looked in the mirror, he was seven days older.

Misaki awakens from her nightmare with a body full of sweat.

“What dream am I? I can't kill people just for the sake of age! Nooo!!!” Misaki shouted inviting her mother to come to the room.

“What's up, baby?” ask mama. She hugged Misaki, stroking her hair slowly.

“Ma, what if Aki dies soon? Who will protect Mama?” Misaki was still trembling.

“Speak what you are! Already, you sleep again, Mama will take care of you here,” said his mother calmed.

Misaki closed her eyes once again, yet she still had a shadow with a dream that had just visited her sleep. Misaki was at the point of supreme fear.

The sound of her mother made Misaki calm, until she finally fell asleep again. On the second sleep, he did not see the dream again.

The next morning, Misaki is ready to go with Mitsuha to the Okigahara forest. Mitsuha promises to pick up Misaki at nine in the morning. But until ten he did not come.

“Mitsuha where, anyway?” grouse Misaki. He was so upset that he had to wait. But there was no other choice, he had to be more patient.

“Good morning, Aki. Hehehe, I'm long, huh? Sorry to keep you waiting,” said Mitsuha while bowing her body typical Japanese.

“No need lebay, Mitsuha. Let's go.”

They prepare the necessary equipment such as ropes for traces, flags, food, even mats and tents. They worry if they have to stay because the road is not easy.

“Hei, Aki. Don't kill yourself, yeah. I know your life is bad, quiet, friendless, ugly, but you still have me, your best friend,” Mitsuha said. From the trip, the atmosphere was very tense.

“What are you talking about, Mitsuha? I am wonder strong. Remember that, yes,” Misaki replied lightly, “but what if I start to not stand the condition of my body? What if we make it through that horrible forest, but a few days later we die?” The conversation started getting creepy.

Mitsuha could not answer, she fell silent for a moment. “We are us. No one knows when we die, ‘kan? But at least we can enjoy life while we can.”

At exactly two in the afternoon, they reached the Okigahara forest. From the outside, the forest looks so dark, dense, silent, and creepy. But behind it all, they have a goal that must be obtained.

“Mitsuha, if we manage to get a rare plant sample, our value is A. So how, you ready?” Misaki's eyes stared intently at Mitsuha and pointed at the most haunted forest in the world.

“If I was yes.”
