Pure Darkness
Chapters 23.1

Now, take a look back at Yao Yuange's story. I appreciate that Ding Mo gave us these stories to help us understand the characters better. However, I must say that reading this one made me sicker than usual. Was there any redeeming quality to Yao Yuange at all? Or is it essentially – that, for some, there is no possibility of redemption? Read on to find out. . .

(NOTE – no graphic content, but the fact that Yao Yuange is a sexual predator is made clear)

Story of Yao Yuange – Dead Souls (Part 1)

The steam in the fireplace rose slowly, causing one to feel a little dizzy. Yao Yuange crouched down in the corner of the kitchen, as he gulped down his saliva, waiting for the freshly steamed big bun to be ready. He did not expect that the hunger in his eyes would be noticed by his father, thus attracting waves of hatred.

Dad kicked his back, as if kicking a dog, “Damn, every time I see you, I feel annoyed. Why are you always hungry?”

Yao Yuange sat in a corner in silence. He was only seven or eight years old, but naturally taller than the other children, so he ate more. And steamed bread actually only cost ten cents, but his father was too reluctant to give him more to eat.

So he's always hungry.

When children are hungry, they can be very scary. They want to destroy everything they encounter. Those sharp black eyes were always staring at the entire world from a corner with hatred.

But Master Yao did not care. He had three sons and two daughters, and this son was the youngest. Her life was so exhausting and so busy that she did not even know how they could have this child. It might as well be some kid that they randomly picked up from the street. He had to work up to exhaustion to make a living, and had no time to think about what this little boy might think or feel.

Every morning at 3 a.m., he kneaded the dough and steamed the bread. At 5 a.m., the little shop was open, and the business began. He sold bread all the way until 3pm or 4pm, when the day's bustle was finally over. The sons and daughters were all disappointing, unable to attend university, so took temporary jobs for the sake of temporary work, or were unemployed. So Mr. Yao's life is full of hatred towards everyone and everything.

It was a good thing that going to elementary and middle school in a small town was very cheap. Master Yao also happily sent Yao Yuange to school, giving him fifty cents a day to spend. Fasting with fifty cents when the food of the day itself was worth a dollar was the boy's most pressing concern, as Mr. Yao would not trouble himself with the matter.

Every day, after school, Yao Yuange almost always wandered around in the store because he had nowhere else to go. Naturally, she looked quiet and gloomy; no one had cared for her at home since she was a baby. He would only stare confusedly at his hard-working father, naked from the waist up.

When it got dark, the family would have their simple dinner, then go to bed. Dad loved to sit on the bed and count the money; he would arrange the banknotes, big and small, in stacks and count them one by one. After that, with his finger dipped in saliva, he would count again. Whenever this happens, children should not enter and disturb him, and can only play in the main room. However, Yao Yuange always hid behind the door curtain to watch over him, seeing the color of the money he had never used, she said, on the expression of Mr. Yao who is drunk but full of hatred – hates that there is not enough money, hates it. People live too long.

Even tonight, the whole family will fall asleep. Due to too few rooms, 8-year-old Yao Yuange had to sleep with her parents. He usually slept on the side of the bed, but, occasionally, his father suddenly kicked him out of bed, saying, “Go to the living room. Come back only when I say you can come in! ” So, Yao Yuange will hug his pillow and stumble in the mist. However, his father was so impatient that Yao Yuange barely came out before he could hear his mother panting on the bed.

Sometimes, the sound will be very loud. Lying next to him, Yao Yuange could hear his father panting like a wild beast, as well as the sounds his mother made, sometimes like crying, sometimes screaming. In this way, Yao Yuange would lie down with his eyes wide open, listening slowly, as he suddenly looked down to find that he was already hard, like a rock that had been ground to a hard.

……

Yao Yuange once put his hand in*********** his older sister and felt a damp sensation. His brother shouted loudly and fled. However, he also did not tell anyone, but every time he saw Yao Yuange afterward, he would hide. He also held the girl next to him who was the same age as him, placed his hand on his butt and squeezed it enthusiastically. He felt very happy, as if doing such things allowed him to feel freedom. Especially liberated and especially refreshed. It was as if all the anger that was buried in his heart had been spewed out.

As Yao Yuange sat in the 3rd grade of SMP (T/N SMP/SMP), he was already tall and handsome. Moreover, the older brothers who have grown up have also been able to increase family income, and the state of the family a little better. However, his father remained miserly, so Yao Yuange was still short on money. At school, he was a strange boy who was both gloomy and handsome. Even so, there were still many girls interested in him.

‘The first official bed’ partner Yao Yuange is a second-year female student (T/N 2nd year High School/SMA). It is said that this girl is a ‘ broken shoes’ that has been slept with by many people. However, her large chest and beautiful and beautiful thighs were enough to make Yao Yuange come. Yao Yuange also gave him a pleasant surprise. She almost cried as she hugged Yao Yuange, saying, “You are too cool! You're the fiercest guy I've ever met, not at all like a high school student! All those university students lost to you! Very rude! So big!” Yao Yuange rarely smiled, but at that moment, he did.

His father had actually accumulated quite a lot of savings. When he died, Yao Yuange's brother and sister had started their own family, and had their own home. Only Yao Yuange was alone in this world. At that time, the houses in the ancient city were not worth much, especially the old houses like the Yao house. His brothers all lived in high-rise apartments. So, they split the $80,000 (about USD 12,500) they inherited from their father, and left the dilapidated house to Yao Yuange.

Since Yao Yuange did not possess much ability at that moment, he could only swallow that humiliation. When she prospered later, and her blood-soaked sister died, she did not contribute to her medical expenses, and did not visit her.

When the old house became his, Yao Yuange was reluctant to continue waking up late at night to sell sandwiches and bread. After all, he had had an education, and his mind was alive. He observed that foreign visitors sometimes came to the ancient city for a vacation, and they all seemed to be learned men. So he found an idea.

After that, he did something that made everyone speechless – he sold the family home, took the proceeds and rented a house that was 10 times bigger. At that time, it was possible to rent a house for $500 per year. Then, he renovated the building. Since he had no money to hire construction workers, he worked endlessly to lay bricks, paint walls, and plant trees and flowers. . . perhaps because of his crazy and depressed thoughts and emotions, the house he renovated himself was surprisingly considered ‘unik’ by others. At the time, internet cafes had recently become fashionable. So, she went online and posted rental information. The next day, he received a reservation. . .

25-year-old Yao Yuange is known locally as a rich and powerful man. He opened inns, restaurants, and provided transportation services. . It seemed like he had inexhaustible energy. Those were the years in which tourism began to take off. He keeps making money, making more money. . he doesn't know how much money he's making. He only knew that when he lay in his bed at night, he also liked to count money, count his savings book, count his cards. Then, with his hands behind his head, a drunk but hateful expression would appear on his face. He wants to make more money.

It could be said that a storm was brewing within him at that moment. Not only did he buy back the family home he had sold, he even bought the largest house that was historically connected to the Yao clan in the ancient city. For many years, their ‘caban’ Yao clan was generally ignored by another family which was Yaos ‘sejati’, those with money and power. They don't care if he lives or dies. However, his name was now the most famous among his generation in the Yao clan. Man, that's how it is. When you fall and get out, no one cares about you. On the other hand, when you shine brilliantly, people can't wait to take advantage of your glory as quickly as possible. However, Yao Yuange enjoyed this kind of praise because he felt it was a sign of one's success in life. Sometimes, Yao Yuange would sit in the hall of the main entrance of the Yao family residence and think – if his father was still alive, he could also enjoy this fortune. Then, he would consider – if his father was really still alive, he would be a burden on his neck, preventing him from achieving everything he had achieved. When he got to this point, Yao Yuange would frown, and feel that it was best that his father was dead.

On the bed, Yao Yuange was at the peak of his life, and was even fiercer than when he was young. His wife, Ming Lan, was made to cry almost every night, all night long. However, even though Yao Yuange liked his wife, he felt that his wife was not enough. Beautiful, docile, but less wild. Very quickly, Yao Yuange lost interest in him. Moreover, she could not bear children. Despite having sex for more than a year, there are still no children. Therefore, Yao Yuange always felt depressed when dealing with him afterwards. Ming Lan was a very intelligent woman and quickly realized that her husband was dissatisfied with her. But he really loved her. She likes her looks, her wealth, her domineering personality, and the way she tames her in bed. All that a woman like Ming Lan needed in their life was to be conquered.

On several occasions, Yao Yuange had visited the factory and met the sister-in-law who had been given a job there due to the family relationship of – Ming Yue. To be honest, Ming Yue was not as beautiful as her older sister, Ming Lan. However, she has another appeal: young, covered, and always working until her face is red and sweaty while her hair sticks to her forehead. Moreover, his figure is more contained. His hips and buttocks are wide and his thighs are beautiful. In Yao Yuange's words, “You can tell with one glance that this one can bear a child.” When he heard these words, Ming Lan's heart surged, and he felt as if a dark cloud was gradually enveloping the Yao family.

“She's my sister!” Ming Lan trembled as she said.

Ming Lan did not know how to describe the expression in Yao Yuange's eyes back then. It was also the first time Ming Lan had felt such deep horror towards this man.

“Terus?” He smiled slowly.

The events that followed can only be expected. The Ming family's small business was in decline. Other than receiving help from the son-in-law Yao Yuange, there was no way for the entire family to avoid severe poverty. Old man Ming even felt it was okay to hand over their daughter Ming Yue, and told Ming Lan, “Isn't that all because you can't have children? It was so much better than him cheating! ” Unexpectedly, Ming Yue herself was willing. He even looked at Ming Lan timidly and said, “Woman sister, you won't blame me for snatching your man from you? I'm not going to take him from you, I just really. . really like a brother-in-law.”

Yes . . .

On the eve of their wedding celebration, Ming Lan sat alone in the room drinking wine and forced herself to smile. Of course his little sister liked Yao Yuange. There was only one person like him in the entire ancient city. Even if he could only have half of himself, it was much better than any other man. He wears the man's mark on his body, he now has money, a car, and wine; he lives the envious and entitled life of a rich man's wife. He still loves her, still controls her. He caused her to feel fear, but also her obsession. He had legs to walk out, but there was nowhere for him to go.

Once the consciousness that comes with being human is suppressed, one is lowered to the level of an animal. Once a person gradually got used to it, he would not feel anything anymore.

Little by little, the interactions in this ‘family of three’ achieve a harmonious state. Ming Lan's smile returned to her face, and she could even laugh when she saw her husband and little sister teasing in front of her. Well, since one is her husband, and the other is her younger sister, wouldn't it be better to keep what is good in the family ? Moreover, his little sister was always honest and listened to his words. With the balancing factor of her younger sister, her husband actually visited her more than ever. Small parting makes the reunion even sweeter– isn't this his plan to refresh their relationship? It was just that, sometimes, in the middle of the night, Ming Lan felt a piercing pain in her heart. With the passing of the months, the pain seemed to fuse with his body and became so indistinguishable, that he did not know whether his heart or body was injured.

*T/N (fei shui bu liu wai ren tian) – light up. don't let one's fertile water flow into another's fields; ara. keep things in the family

*T/N (xiao bie sheng xin hun) – lights up. A small breakup is even better than a newly married one; a similar expression to ‘no-show makes the heart get closer’, along the line of reunions after parting for a while is made sweeter by separation.

However, Ming Lang had never considered, where there was one, there would be two.

Where there are two, there will be three, then four. . .
