Quinn thinks everything's ridiculous. It was very clear to her that Jane already had all the information about her from her previous school. They knew that he had never had the ability before, the problem was that Quinn struggled hard to decide what to do.
Before coming to military school Quinn had done a little research on her own. He knew that the military gave all students who did not have book ability abilities. Each book of ability is given the same. It was a book of Earth abilities.
The reason they were doing this was so that students who previously had no ability, suddenly felt indebted to the military. Not only that, the military also held almost all Earth-type ability books. This means that if you want to increase your strength, you have to be loyal to the military, and in return, they will give you more power.
Before Quinn discovered her own Ability, she really thought this was the best choice for her. Even if he didn't want to join the military after two years, Earth's abilities were useful to possess. It is easy to work because Earth's capabilities are useful in construction.
This is where the problem is, Quinn already has the ability to mean she can't learn new ones. Books of practical ability are useless. Not only that, Quinn was very confident they would keep an eye on every student they gave the ability book, meaning the teachers would accept it to use the power of the earth when they saw it again.
Quinn took a deep breath and said.
“I don't have the ability.”
Just like before the hooded man standing beside her handed her a book and then handed it to Quinn.
Quinn retrieves the book from Jane at first, but then suddenly, a notification screen appears.
[Cannot learn this ability]
[Want to convert a book to 10 Exp?]
Quinn somewhat expected the system to display the first message but the second message really surprised him. Quinn was really tempted to take the book and use it as an Exp form but she knew there would be questions asked later.
“Sorry, but I don't want it,” Quinn said as she returned the book to Jane.
The students watching and the instructor standing there were shocked. Jane's never experienced anything like this before. During his five years working as an instructor, this was the first time that someone who had no ability rejected the book.
“Please give me a minute.” Jane then moves away from the group of students far enough away that they won't be able to hear anything.
“Yes, Yes, she said she doesn't want the ability book, what should I do?” Jane said speaking in her earphones.
“let him take the test.” The mysterious man on the phone said.
As the man hung up the phone, he couldn't help but think that Quinn was an attractive student. He started looking at Quinn's files and what he said seemed to be true. The student does not have the ability and does not seem to have any relationship with the Pure group.
“Let's see how long you can survive in this cruel world Quinn,” said the man.
Returning to the testing grounds, Jane has completed a call with her supervisor and is starting to return to the group.
“Sorry to be waiting,” says Jane. “Since you will not take the ability book, we will still ask you to take the test.”
Quinn thought everything was a joke. If Quinn really didn't have the ability then they already knew what the test results were like. He really needs to take the exam. If it felt the only reason they wanted Quinn to continue was to make herself feel humiliated and petty. Finally, then he would choose to go to the military and ask for the ability books they shared.
“Please follow me . “
Jane then takes Quinn a little further into the field where Quinn sees there are huge craters on the ground, burn scars, and all sorts of things. This was all done from the previous testing contestants.
“Please proceed to destroy the target in front of you as quickly as possible.” Jane said, “tes will start soon.”
As soon as Jane finished speaking, three targets appeared randomly around the desert. It was a metal round target with a red dot in the center.
The problem was that when Quinn tried to find the target, everything seemed to be blurred in the distance. Quinn then realizes that her perfect vision, suddenly, is not so perfect.
“Is this because I was in the sun?” Quinn thought.
Quinn had no choice but to run to each target slowly and hit them with his fists one by one, the timing was very slow of course.
Then there are two further tests that Quinn must complete. The next test was a power test in which Quinn was asked to punch a large machine like a drum. Quinn gave his best shot and hit the drum as hard as he could. The drum vibrates and makes a small sound that eventually displays a digital number in the middle.
“5, strength,” Jane said as she recorded it on her tablet.
When the last test arrived, they had taken out another machine. This machine is a large round object with many holes in its front. After the test began, the machine fired a holographic nail at the contestant. All Quinn needed to do was avoid being hit by nails.
The machine leveled up and eventually became faster and fired more spikes, in the end, Quinn was successfully hit and the test was stopped.
“Agility, 5” Jane says once again as she notes it on her tablet
Quinn had heard those words from Jane's mouth and it began to make her think if anyone was looking for a link to the score she had given her. The last test was a strength test and Quinn got a score of 5, similar to his system stating he had 5 powers. Then again this test is focused on dexterity and gets the same 5 score as the system.
This means if Quinn takes the test at night, all her scores will most likely double. This also meant that as long as he leveled up, he could always raise his score as if his ability was an ability to evolve but had some flaws as well.
“As expected,” said Jane, “Unfortunately your current strength level is 1.” level
...
The test continued with Layla taking the next text. He was the only person there who had a weapon on his back. The weapon he used was a bow but it did not look like the usual bow that people used long ago.
These bows were carved using parts from animals. It was black in color and looked almost as if the entire bow was made of gems. Even the rope was made of special materials. The reason the bow looked so different, was because that was what was known as a beast weapon.
The bow is made from the body of an animal. When the human race is attacked by Dalki, our technology advances rapidly by replicating their technology, with this, humans learn the ability to travel to other planets using portals.
These planets often contain different levels of beasts. The stronger the beast is, the better the weapons you can make from it. This was the first time Quinn had witnessed a beast weapon before since no one in the previous school had one.
It was strange to see someone at such a young age who most likely had never been to another planet, possessing an animal weapon.
Layla stood in the middle of the field and waited for the exam to begin. Unlike Quinn's turn, they waited until she was ready before starting. Quinn could begin to see a difference in her treatment.
As the test began, the 5 targets all appeared in different areas of the desert. Layla immediately took out 5 arrows and placed them in her bow, shooting all at once in the same direction.
The arrows shot out quickly and powerfully but then suddenly, the five arrows separated towards each of them, each heading towards a different target.
“Good combo.” Vorden said, “She has telekinesis ability but it is quite weak, so she uses her ability combined with a bow to control the arrow.”
In an instant, all five of his targets were reached at the same time and he had completed the first test. Quinn for the first time saw how useful the beast weapon was. Even if you have a weak ability, you can make it strong.
Quinn had not been completely sure what his abilities were but even if it only increased his stats as he levelled up, then he thought about how useful something like a beast sword or something similar was.
On the strength test, Layla did not do well. He used his strength to try to move his fists faster while punching the drums but, in the end, his score was only 8.
Quinn's last test also saw him do very badly. When the test first began, Layla tried to use her ability on the nails that came at her, unknown to her because it was a hologram and not the real one, it had no effect.
Meaning that all Layla could do was rely on her real body to avoid the spike, in the end Layla finally got the same score as Quinn.
“It looks like you have level 2.” capability Jane said and soon the number 2 appeared on Layla's wrist.
Quinn knew Layla was unhappy, she backed off as she walked into the group. Quinn thought the test wasn't too fair. His ability level might be level 2 but when used with Quinn's bow felt he could easily defeat some level 3 or 4 users.
Quinn began to notice that the academy really only measured the strength level of your abilities and not your fighting ability.
The next person to take the test was Erin. He walked forward confidently even without seeing anyone else. He stood in the middle of the testing ground waiting for the test to begin.
Then, 5 random targets appeared in the desert. Immediately he formed an ice spear and threw it at the target that made him die. He did this one after another with incredible speed, almost completing everything as fast as Layla did.
Erin's next test was even more impressive. He began to gather ice on both of his palms and then after a minute or so of gathering his strength, a huge ice colum shot out from his hand and struck the center of the drum to death. The drum rang louder than before and the number continued to rise until it finally reached 50.
“Sit's just that he's so confident,” Vorden said.
Quinn suddenly thought it was a good thing if the two of them didn't fight, otherwise Vordan would die.
Finally, when the final exam arrived, the instructor told him that he was not allowed to use his abilities and had better dodge. Erin did not react and immediately started the test. He managed to do well by moving quickly avoiding every spike but eventually, the machine became too fast and he ended up getting hit.
“Impressive!” Jane said, “best results so far, strength level 5.”
Erin continued walking back to her group as if she knew what she was going to get all this time, whether it was or she didn't really care about everything.
Finally, the last person to take the test in the group was Vorden.
“When to show what I can do, pray for me to be lucky.”
Quinn had no idea who Vordan was talking to, but Quinn soon realized that it was him after Vordan winked at him as he walked to the center of the pitch.
“Could that fool really be strong?” Quinn thought.
Most of the time strong people are either arrogant about their strength or remain silent but Vorden is a strange person. He was not too arrogant but more conspicuous.
When it finally came his turn and the test had begun, everyone's mouths were left wide open at what they saw. On each test, Vorden had done exactly the same thing as Erin.
He had used the same ability, Ice's ability, and had performed equally well.
“See, I told you I'm strong!” Vorden said while showing the number 5 to his new best friend Quinn.
