3 Years later...
In accordance with what was expected by Melati, the time of three years was felt so quickly passed, three years passed without any memorable meaning for Melati. His life is still a life that he feels so monotonous, his days are always spent studying, sometimes he wrote short stories when he began to be saturated with textbooks, and not least, also, he still always witnessed the quarrel of his parents who were dominated by the angry father. It really makes Melati is very saturated living in a house that is no longer considered like home for her.
Currently, Melati just waiting for the announcement of graduating High School, after which she has really rounded up her resolve to study in the City and live in boarding houses with Nana.
A cold night...
That night, at about 21:00 p.m., Melati had just returned from Nana's house. He walked alone until he finally arrived in front of his yard. But what he saw when he came home, really made him not take it anymore.
At that time he heard the quarrel of his father and mother in the room, his father's voice sounded so thunderous like lightning, then followed by the sound of a punch or slap.
It made both of Melati's eyes rounded while listening to the quarrel from outside the room.
"For me, it hurts." Said Husna wailing.
"Aaaaghhh!! You useless wife!" Pekik Aryo who returned to beat Husna.
"Aauu, it hurts, it hurts." Husna was heard crying.
It makes Melati can not stand still anymore, he also grabbed some dishes on the table that are not far from him, then without hesitation, he grabbed some dishes on the table, immediately remove the rough plates to the floor until they break.
It immediately made his parents quarrel from inside the room stopped, soon Husna was seen out of the room with a crush due to being beaten by Aryo.
"Darken?!" Husna was shocked when she realized Melati had gone home.
"Kill it!!" Bentak Melati who at that time stared intently at his father.
Aryo at that time was only silent with the rest of his breath slightly gasping.
"Kill your wives! Let's settle! Why stay together if only to beat him up!" Add Melati again with a very high tone.
Aryo did not answer and chose to go back into the room while closing the door rough room. While Husna, he slowly began to approach his son who had grown up,
"Son, don't be like that to your father, I'm fine." Speak to Husna softly.
"From the first mother always said it was okay, beaten until battered also still mother said it was okay! You realize you're not if you're too stupid?!" This time Melati turned to stare intently at her mother.
Jasmine was really upset whenever the quarrel was always her oppressed mother.
"It's not so dear, but..."
"That's enough! I'm so sick of being here!!" Ketus Melati who went back from the house.
Melati left without permission, leaving Husna in her puffy eyes and reddened-looking cheeks.
"Dare not go!!" Pekik Husna's.
Melati kept walking quickly away from the house, as usual, she always went to the pendopo to calm down. But this time Husna did not want to let him go alone because it was night, plus the air was also getting colder, making Husna's mind so unsettled.
Husna rushed to reach and put on his warm coat, then without thinking straight out of the house to look for Melati who went somewhere. Husna continued to run small, down the dimly lit path while shouting the name of Melati.
"Darken!! Where're you?" Screeched again.
"Melatii!! Son, tonight's air is cold." Added again.
At that time, Melati was sitting alone in a pendopo with tears flowing profusely on her cheeks. He did not even care about the air that night felt so cold as if it was piercing to the bone.
"Why is my life like this? Why should I be born in the midst of this family? Why oh god?" Melati complained in a heart that began to lament her fate.
Before long, Husna finally arrived at the crossroads and accidentally glanced towards the pendopo. There he saw Melati who was sitting daydreaming alone, he was quite relieved because he had managed to find his daughter. Not wasting any more time, Husna rushed over to Melati and immediately sat down beside her.
"Jeez Melati, I'd be crazy if I didn't find you, son." Tapping him with his breath slightly stinged.
"Son, why are you leaving? The air is so cold, and I'm afraid you're cold."
"I'm really sick of seeing mom's stupidity! Why don't you just leave that guy? Why do you still want to live hard with him and just keep quiet when beaten?!" Ketus Melati again which still seems so unacceptable for the treatment of her father.
"Son, it's not like that! I honestly feel sorry for your father." Husna tried to explain.
"Pity mom said?? Now that I see that man, does he feel any pity when beating mom up like this?! I beg you to go and leave the man, he is not worthy of pity, nor is there anything I can be proud of him."
"Don't you, son, he's still your father, your real father, in your body, his blood is flowing!" Answer Husna.
Melati was silent for a moment.
"Mom only pityes your father, for he already has no one but us. His family is no longer one, he even has to experience lameness when making a living for us." Husna gently tried to explain to Melati.
"He was so likely due to stress and still could not accept the reality of his deformed legs. So please just understand," added Husna again who is so heartened.
Melati slowly began to stare at her mother's sad face.
"Again, I thought I wanted to get away from her, thought about getting divorced from her and going to town."
"Then why don't you do it?"
"I was thinking about you at the time."
"Thinking of me?"
"Yes, if mom isn't here, you'll be exhausted, you'll have to cook, clean, and take care of your sister, you can't even go to school in such a situation. I can't let you live like that even though I'll be beaten up by your father a lot" Husna explained with her blank stare.
"But that's not fair to you, you deserve to be happy." Melati also came back crying.
"It's okay baby, a mother does have to make a little sacrifice for her child" Husna also wiped the tears Melati.
"When you're old, where are you going? I have no other choice, this is the life I choose, inevitably, it has to be lived." Husna also began to smile even though he could only show a soft smile.
Somehow, when looking at his mother's face deeper, make Melati's anger so subsided. He even immediately hugged his poor mother, whose mother now looks so fragile and looks getting older.
"If it's just the mother she hit, then mom can still hold everything back, just don't you. I will not be able to do it if you are beaten up" Husna said.
Melati was crying more and more tightening her embrace on the mother.
"My dear mother, why is your fate so bad?" Mumbles Jasmine in the heart.
The longer, the air outside was getting colder and more unstoppable, Husna also persuaded Melati that he wanted to go home.
"Oh boy, mom can be so sad if you catch a cold and get sick." Said Husna again with her face so clear.
Finally Melati was devastated and willing to come with her mother to go home. Now they also stepped together, down the path that the left and right sides filled with white mustard and carrot gardens. Seeing his son who began to shiver in the cold, making Husna without a second thought immediately open the warm coat he was wearing, then put it on Melati's body.
"You're cold, it's kid's wear."
"Ah no ma'am, just mom!"
"Ah don't refuse mother, just wear it!"
"Then what about mom? My mother also looked cold.
"Mom's been living here for decades, so it's commonplace." Husna smiled faintly.
Melati was silent and finally obedient, making Husna smile again and began to embrace the warm body of her daughter, they continued to walk, both penetrating the cold of the night increasingly piercing. Since that night, Melati's heart began to soften, she no longer often scolded her mother, instead continued to try to be kind.
...Seriate......
