Mute Witness

Mute Witness
New Place

“What does the Judge not know? What good intentions is my thief planning?” I asked my copy in curiosity.

“Currently, you're safe. Looks like you better find out for yourself.” Answer with a smile.

Actually I hate all riddles, all ignorance. I want to know the answer. However, I knew that we did not have time to talk any longer.

I carried Tito’ away from the mine in a private car. We are now entering the Husain Family housing complex.

Could Tito’ be from this family? Seems not. Tito’ vehicles continue to accelerate leaving the housing complex.

“Will he take me to the palace?” I thought as we drove quickly towards a luxury building with the inscription “ISTANA ZAH” on the front of the building.

As it approached the palace, the Tito’ vehicle continued to speed quickly leaving it. Tito’ takes me to the right of the palace. There is a housing complex with a clear inscription on the gate “Komplex Housing Koffar”.

“Tito’ is a government official?” I asked myself while glancing at him.

Is the government involved in all this?

I was taken to one of the mansions in the complex. Looks like Tito’ house. After parking his vehicle in the garage, Tito’ then took me to a room in the house.

Upon entering the room, I circled my gaze around the room, the natural thing who did

only when you are in a foreign place.

There are three shelves filled with books neatly arranged, each of which is placed against the wall of the room. On the side of the room without shelves there are tables and chairs located near the window. On it is a computer. There's a printing machine near the table.

This is a workroom, I thought.

The stamp is exactly the same as the stamp that is often spiked on the draft writings of the next generation of the Husain family. The stamp signifying approval from the government before the draft was transferred to me.

What is Tito’'s position in government?

The stack of letters was taken out of Tito’ from the drawer. Once empty, Tito’ placed me carefully in that drawer. The pile of letters took over my position in the cardboard. The drawer I was in was then locked by Tito’.

“Are we not all important files? Why are we being moved to cardboard?” I heard a grunt from one of the letters that seemed to have justified the other.

I just smiled listening. Tito’ seems to be leaving this room. I could only listen to the whispers of books in the room that were curious about me. I could have responded to them. But I chose silence.

What events await me next?

That question worries me.

I don't know how long I stayed in the drawer until Tito’ came back to this room to see me. While opening the drawer where I am, for a moment he looks stunned before finally taking the part of me that contains the history of the current next generation, Judge.

He then leaned himself on the chair while observing me. He slowly opened and read the information inside me quickly until it arrived at the Judge's last writing.

October 2nd, 2019

As per the agreement, this year was the last year Husain's family was obliged to manage the mine. Three months from now, the mine will already have to return to its owner. The government must take back community property to be managed.

As the next generation of the family, I (Judge) will make sure the mine returns to its owner.

“Hhh..” His breath sounded heavy after reading the writing.
