Chapter 43 (Prejudice)
Vanessa went into the house, then walked into her room. He sat on the bed to straighten his sore legs.
The ringing of Vanessa's phone made her forced to change her sitting position to pick up the phone that was above Nakas.
Her cell phone screen showed a video call sign from her mother. Vanessa pressed the green button and smiled on the screen of her phone which showed her mother's happy face.
“How's tea?”
“Teteh fine,bu. Mom and others how are you?” ask Vanessa.
Mom's face changed, looking sad. Vanessa waited for her mother to speak up. But what Vanessa saw was her mother's tears. “Why bu?”
Mom removes her tears, “Galih's disease relapses, tea.”
Vanessa scrunched her forehead, she never knew anything about her sister. “What pain does calibre bu do?”
“The story is too long Tea, maybe later Mom will story.”
Vanessa was pondering her question, but it seemed like she had to ask. “Actually what's the reason Mom married Dad?”
Mom looked at Vanessa softly, she felt very worried. “Actually mom married Dad because she was forced to. Mom still loves Papa and Mom couldn't leave you guys back then, but-“ mom cut her words.
Vanessa hears a sigh coming from her mother's mouth, and Vanessa knows it's a tough choice for her mother.
“After the papa company went bankrupt, your grandmother betrothed Mom to Dad.”
Vanessa was silent, she saw her teary-eyed mother. If only she had been there, Vanessa wanted to hug her frail-looking mother.
“Mom didn't want to sign the divorce papers, but your grandfather threatened mom. If the mother does not think they will make teteh and Riko miserable, by harming papa.”
Vanessa's tears just came down with a sense of tightness in her heart, how could a grandfather and grandmother want to see her granddaughter suffer just because of a treasure.
Mother Vanessa sighed, “This is hard, but I can't see you suffering more with mom.”
Vanessa wiped her tears using the back of her hand, all missed already. Treasure was the most precious thing in the eyes of his grandparents.
“Father is good on mom, so are both Galih and Angel. They accept mother, at first Galih did not like. But gradually she was kind to mom and thought of mom as her mother who had left because she gave birth to Angel.”
Vanessa feels happy at least her mother didn't suffer with her marriage. “Mother,” call Vanessa.
“Iya why tea?”

Her mother's tears rolled back, Vanessa who saw her felt the same pain.
“Ganteng sage now yes tea. But I think Adek is still angry with mom. She never picks up the phone or replies to mom.”
“Later let me try to talk ya ma'am equally adek,” Vanessa smiled trying to convince her mother that her sister is not really angry at her mother.
“Thank you for taking care of ade, sorry mom.”
Vanessa shook her head looking at her mother's back-breaking cries. “Don't cry anymore ma'am, Ade is just confused about the situation. Teteh sure adek must be very kangen same mother.”
“Munda.” Vanessa hears Galih's voice calling for mom, and mom seems to distract her.
“Why brother?”
“Then haus.”
It seems like her mother kept her phone, Vanessa was still waiting but she was surprised to see a pale-looking Galih on her phone screen.
“Hai,” greet Galih.
Vanessa scrunched her forehead, how could she see the look in those eyes and the black hoodie she was wearing.
“Hai,” greet Vanessa awkward. Questions popped into his head.
