Chapter 6: An Unnamed Oracular Formula
“Wake up, wake up.”
A barely audible voice came from above Han Li, waking him from his deep sleep. As soon as he opened his eyes, a huge face appeared in front of him. In shock, Han Li pushed himself backwards. It was only then that he was able to see that the owner of the face that scared him to death was a boy named Zhang Tie.
“Quick and let's eat something. After you are done, we need to see Old Mo. ” Zhang Tie gave some steaming white bread to Han Li.
“Where did you find this food?” Han Li stared blankly for a moment before receiving the bread.
“In the kitchen near the valley, I saw a lot of people were eating, so I also took one portion. After I finished, I realized that you haven't eaten yet, so I took two loaves of bread for you. Zhang Tie smiled sincerely at Han Li.
“Thank you very much, Brother Zhang.” Han Li was somewhat touched. Seeing Zhang Tie look a little older than himself, he couldn't help but say the words “Brother Zhang.”
“No... no problem. I'm too used to working. If I am idle even for a moment, I always feel a little uncomfortable. If you need help in the future, please do not hesitate to let me know. I have nothing but strength. ” Zhang Tie looked a bit embarrassed, as he started stuttering.
Han Li had not had breakfast or lunch and was rather hungry. In just a few bites, he devoured one loaf of bread. With a little more effort, the two large loaves of bread completely disappeared into his stomach.
“It's late, we have to go see Old Mo.” Han Li burped a few times and looked out the window towards the setting sun. After mentally calculating the time, he decided that it might be time to go see Doctor Mo.
Zhang Tie did not mind, following Han Li to Doctor Mo's house.
There was a row of bookshelves along the four walls of Doctor Mo's residence. These shelves are crowded with various books.
“Mo Old!”
“Mo Old!”
Doctor Mo's back was pressed tightly onto his chair as he was engrossed in reading the book in his hand. He did not seem to notice the arrival of the two people, nor did he hear their greetings. After all, the two of them were still children, so when they saw Doctor Mo ignoring them, they were at a loss as to what to do, unsure of what course of action was best. Thus, they could only stand to one side and wait.
Finally, at the moment Han Li's feet started to numb, Doctor Mo slowly placed his book on the table next to him. He coldly looked at the two children and took out his teacup to drink a few sips before slowly saying:
“Starting today, you two will be accepted as my Unofficial Pupils. I'll teach you some general knowledge about choosing medicinal plants and purifying medicines. I can also teach you both some soul-saving healing techniques. But I will absolutely not teach you any martial arts. ” Doctor Mo expressionlessly put down his teacup.
“I'll teach you two sets of body and spiritual cultivation chants. While it will not allow you to successfully conquer your enemies, it will strengthen your body. If you really want to learn martial arts, you can learn it from several other instructors. If you do, I won't mind, but I'll check your progress on this set of cultivation chants within half a year. If you don't meet the standards, I'll force you to become an outer disciple. Do you two understand?” Doctor Mo's tone suddenly became much more serious. It seemed that he placed great importance on this series of chants.
“We understand.” Han Li and Zhang Tie replied in unison.
“You two should go now. Come back tomorrow morning.” Doctor Mo waved his hand at the two of them, gesturing for them to come out. He picked up the book and started reading it again.
Before Han Li left, he could only glance at the book in Doctor Mo's hands. It was a pity that he did not know how to read; he could only say that the title was composed of three large black characters. Unfortunately, Han Li did not recognize them.
As soon as Han Li walked out of Doctor Mo's residence, Han Li could not help the breath he had been holding. He didn't know why, but just now, he didn't even dare to breathe in the presence of Doctor Mo. His mind was also very tense. Now that he was gone, he immediately slacked off, returning to his normal state.
Over the next few days, Han Li's excitement never faded. He ended up becoming a disciple of the Seven Mysteries Sect. Even though he was still an Unofficial Disciple, it was still better than the children who had been sent home. Even if he did not pass the examination in half a year, he could still become an Outer Disciple like Third Uncle. In Han Li's opinion, Third Uncle was a person of great status and position, so he didn't mind the exam within half a year. He even secretly hoped from the bottom of his heart that he would not graduate. That way, he could leave the mountain early to see his most beloved parents and younger sister.
Over the next few days, Doctor Mo would teach them some treatment knowledge in the morning. In the afternoon, he would make them study the twelve major meridians of the body, the energy channels, and the location of the acupuncture points. As for the little he taught them martial arts, he made them defend the horses and hit the straw dolls.
A month later, the two of them were completely isolated from the other children. They no longer spent any time learning anything other than spells. Ever since Doctor Mo started teaching them, they had spent most of their time practicing nameless chants. Doctor Mo decisively ordered them not to tell the chant to others. If even a small part of it leaked out, Doctor Mo would punish them harshly and expel them from his apprenticeship.
During this period of time, Han Li began to have a better understanding of the Seven Mysteries Sect and Doctor Mo. The Seven Mysteries Sect had a disciple named Wang Lu, who had the teachings passed down by the Sovereign High Seven. Wang Lu became the Sect Leader of the Seven Mystery Sects, and he divided the sect with the help of the other three Sect Leaders. They split the sect into two segments – Inner and Outer Branches. The Outer Branch had a total of four divisions, namely the Flying Bird Division, the Treasure Collection Division, the Four Seas Division, and the External Blade Division. The Inner Branch also had four divisions, namely the Hundred Forges Division, the Seven Supreme Division, the Conferred Division, and the Blood Sword Division. In addition to the Inner and Outer Branches,
Doctor Mo was originally not a disciple of the Seven Mysteries Sect. A few years ago, Sectional Leader Wang recklessly fell into an enemy trap while outside the Heavenly Rainbow Mountain and was heavily injured by some attacks from the other party. As he faltered on the verge of death, his allies were unable to do anything. Back then, they happened to meet Doctor Mo whose brilliant healing and effective medicines saved Sect Leader Wang's life. Sectional Leader Wang of course felt very grateful to Doctor Mo. He then discovered that in addition to his profound medical expertise, Doctor Mo was a powerful martial arts practitioner, who convinced Sectional Leader Wang to invite Doctor Mo to join his sect. The elders carefully selected a small valley in the mountains to establish a special residence for Doctor Mo's use to make the transfer as comfortable as possible. The valley soon became a respected place within the Seven Mysteries Sect thanks to Doctor Mo. Although no disciple had ever witnessed his skill, nor did they know how powerful his martial arts were, Doctor Mo had used his brilliant medical skill to save quite a lot of money. Thus, although he was usually expressionless and did not say much, he received a lot of respect from the Inner Disciples.they also had no idea how powerful his martial arts were, either, Doctor Mo had used his brilliant medical skills to save the lives of some disciples.
