Legend of Eternity

Legend of Eternity
Chapter 2

Han Li's house was said to be a small town, but it was actually just a large village called Green Cow Village. Only those who lived in the mountainous region and natives without any knowledge of the outside world were called Green Ox City villages. The only reason why Han Li knew about this was because he had been informed by Uncle Zhang, who had been working as a gatekeeper for over ten years.

Green Ox Village was not very big. It only has one main road, known as the Green Cow Road, which runs from the east to the village's western border. There is also only one tavern in the village, which is located on its western border. For traveling merchants who do not want to sleep outside, this shop is the only option.

There was only one road for the carriages in the western part of Green Cow Village. It stretched from the village gate and the Green Ox Tavern all the way to the Spring Fragrance Restaurant, the only other place anyone would visit besides the tavern.

Spring Fragrance Restaurant was not too big and was actually quite ancient. However, this place has certain attractions that appeal to many travelers. Every day during the day, there was always a crowd of people, making the place constantly flooded.

A bearded man with a round face emerged from the carriage along with a dark-skinned fat boy who looked to be around ten years old. They both walked into the restaurant haughtily. All the customers knew who this man was. He is the manager of this restaurant, “Fatty Han.” However, the boy was not someone they knew.

“Older Han, this tanned boy is very similar to you. Could it be the son of the whore you spent tonight?” somebody's joking.

The moment the joke was uttered, the entire restaurant burst into laughter.

“Pah! This is my brother's son, my own nephew! Of course she will look like me,” Fatty Han said proudly instead of being angry.

The duo had traveled for three whole days without any rest before arriving at the village. They were Han Li and his Third Uncle, known as “Han Fat” by the villagers.

Fatty Han greeted some regular visitors before bringing Han Li to the back of the restaurant, and entering the secluded courtyard.

“Xiao Li, you should rest here for a while. When the time comes for the Inner Disciple Exam, I will call you. For now, I have to go to attend some regulars. ” Fatty Han pointed to the side room in the courtyard and kindly gestured for Han Li to enter it.

(TL: “Xiao” in this context means “small”)

After saying that, Third Uncle Han Li turned around and rushed back inside the restaurant to serve his customers.

As he reached the door, he suddenly felt a sense of unease in his heart and reminded Han Li, “Don't run. You may get lost in the village if you wander around. So you better not leave this page.”

“En!”

Hearing Han Li's honest reply, he nodded in relief and walked out the door.

After his Third Uncle left the courtyard, Han Li suddenly felt tired. As his head landed on his pillow, he fell into a deep sleep and began to snore, surprisingly fearlessly at a normal child living alone in an unfamiliar environment.

When night fell, a servant came with some food. Although not a fancy food, but still delicious. After Han Li ate his meal, the waiter cleaned the rest of the dishes as his Third Uncle casually walked in.

“How is it? Does the food suit your taste? Do you miss home?”

“Yes, I miss home ..” Han Li replied with his childish voice.

In this way, two days quickly passed.

On the third day, after Han Li finished dinner, he was waiting for his uncle's story about Jiang Hu when a carriage came to a halt at the restaurant's doorstep.

(TL: Jiang Hu – World Martial Arts)

The carriage was painted in shiny black and even the horse was a rarely seen golden horse. But the most interesting thing is that in the frame of the train there is the inscription “Misteri” written in silver letters in the middle of the red triangle decorated with black banners. The image on the banner also emitted an unfathomable air.

Looking at this banner, every martial arts expert in the area knew that this carriage belonged to one of the two local rulers in the area, the Seven Mysteries Sect. It seemed that a distinguished guest had arrived at the Green Ox Village.

The Seven Mysteries Sect was previously known as the Seven Supreme Sect. Two hundred years ago, this sect was founded by a very famous martial master named “Sovereign of the Seven Supreme”. After once sweeping and dominating Jing Province and nearby Shu Province for decades, the Supreme Seven Sovereign was extremely famous. But after he suffered from illness, the forces of the Seven Mysteries Sect received a crushing blow and his influence dropped drastically. In the end, the Seven Mysteries Sect was forced out of the main city of Jing Province with the combined efforts of its rival sects. A hundred years ago, the sect was forced to move to a very remote area called Heavenly Rainbow Mountain. From then on, they rebuilt their roots in that third-rate region and became a local powerhouse.

Locally, the only other power that could rival the Seven Mysteries Sect was the Wild Wolf Gang.

The Wild Wolf Gang was originally a gang of riding bandits from Jing Province who did not hesitate to burn, kill, loot, and loot. After a while, the troops sent by the imperial palace surrounded and violently suppressed the bandits. Some of the bandits received the amnesty granted to them by the imperial court while the remaining bandits transformed themselves into the Wild Wolf Gang. The Wild Wolf gang was extremely ruthless and bloodthirsty, maintaining their previous characteristics that had no qualms about committing atrocities. Thus, every time they clashed, the Seven Mysteries Sect was always at a disadvantage.

Although the Wild Wolf Gang controlled more villages than the Seven Mysteries Sect, the gang did not know how to effectively manage the village to run businesses and generate revenue. In comparison, the wealth of the villages controlled by the Seven Mysteries Sect far surpassed the villages under the control of the Wild Wolf Gang. Jealous of the prosperity of the Seven Mysteries Sect, the Wild Wolf Gang made plans to take over the territory of the Sect, resulting in a prolonged conflict between the two great powers. The conflict left the Sect Leader of the Seven Mysteries Sect with endless headaches. Due to the Wild Wolf Gang, the Seven Mysteries Sect had received more and more disciples in recent years.

After the carriage stopped, a forty-year-old skinny man jumped down. His movements were extremely nimble, showing that he was a powerful expert. He seemed to be very familiar with Fatty Han's restaurant and walked arrogantly towards the room where Han Li was staying.

Upon seeing the forty-year-old man, Fatty Han immediately greeted him respectfully.

“Protector Wang, why do honorable people like you personally travel?”

“Huh!” Protector Wang coldly snorted.

“The roads here are not quiet lately. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen the defense. So, the elders ordered that I personally come. Don't talk rubbish anymore. Is this the kid you want to nominate?”

“Yes, yes, this is my nephew. I hope Protector Wang will take care of it.”

Seeing the impatient expression on Protector Wang's face, Third Uncle immediately picked up the heavy-looking pouch and quietly handed it to Protector Wang.

After he assessed the weight of the bag, Protector Wang's impatient attitude seemed relaxed.

“Han Fat, you really know how to behave! On the way back, I will make sure that all your nephews needs are met properly. Anyway, it's very late now. We'd better hurry on the way.”
