Radit POV
I looked down at Alan's footsteps. I put both my hands in my pants pocket, protecting my skin from the cold of the night, my breath blowing slowly.
The air feels so cold even though Indonesia is in the middle of the dry season. The road looks so quiet, no vehicles passing by or people walking except me and Alan. It was natural because it was now at one in the morning. Jakarta may be a super dense city even in the middle of the night, yet somehow to this day Jakarta is so quiet.
Alan stopped stepping then glanced right-left, I raised my head then frowned. Confused because we stopped at the bus station
"What are you looking for?" I asked in wonder.
He did not answer and instead whistled like calling something, for a second nothing happened.
"What are you calling?" I asked back.
"Bus" He said casually.
I frowned, then looked at the person in front of me like a madman. How can you call the bus with a whistle? Horses though? After all, this is already night, there are rarely buses that are still passing. Alan glanced at me for a moment then said.
"You know a lot of crazy things that happened today? Many phenomena are impossible to see in your own eyes." Alan said relax.
I nodded slightly, I guess calling the bus with a whistle makes sense, for now.
A few minutes waiting for the light of the bus lights to be seen at the end of the road, slowly the light approached and showed its shape. The bus stopped right in front of us and then quickly the bus door opened.
I stared at the bus in front of me, and it was hard to believe any of this.
"Let's go in."Alan said as he walked into the bus. I did what he did, how surprised I was for a moment after entering. Look, the driver bench in front of me is empty.
"Just relax, it's not a ghost riding this bus." Alan said leisurely while looking for a seat.
I turned my head towards him and decided to follow him, I glanced to the left right watching the people sitting on the bus seats. I thought at first this bus would be quiet and empty, but it turns out there are some people who fill it.
"Here," Alan patted the chair next to him, hinting me to sit there. I followed him and sat down next to him. Not long after this bus went back somewhere.
I bowed my head and then breathed heavily. Aspiring still filled my chest, a million questions continued to weigh heavily on my mind.
"Sany." Alan raised a voice after a long silence.
"W-what really happened?" I asked even though my voice was trembling like I wanted to cry.
"Devil possessed your parents and your best friend. I'm assigned to kill them, demon. Before acting no-no." Alan answered calmly.
"What is a demon? Possess?" I asked back. There are a lot of crazy things going on.
"How yes.oh yes before you should know this first. In this world there is a creature that has no physical form, the creature is called the Spirit." Alan paused for a moment "The spirit is a creature that is filled with life energy, the spirit also has emotions and thoughts like a human."
I frowned, what else is this?
Alan only looked at me for a while then continued to tell me "The origin of the Spirit came from the 'gate' a thousand years ago. But no one knows what the gate actually means, believing its origin is only in the knowledge of the ancestors of the Spirit. Spirits must have a 'body' to survive on this earth, this body is a living creature, whatever it wants is an animal or a human. According to the current theory, the Spirits came from another world, not from earth.
That which is not in its place will have consequences, so will the Spirit. They would lose life energy at any moment, and the moment they ran out of life energy, they would die. The body serves as the medium of the Spirits to obtain life energy."
I kept quiet while watching Alan beside me. There are so many things I have to digest.
"Sorry to be everywhere. Like humans, not all Spirits are good. There are two categories of Spirits, evil and good Spirits. In general, the spirit 'possessed' form of his body to survive. A good spirit may only possess animals or plants. And not controlling their consciousness, but different from the evil Spirit or just call it the devil. They most like to possess humans for the sake of obtaining abundant life energy, and the bastard again, they want to control the human body completely and use it like their own puppet." Alan put emphasis on the last word.
"Indeed, why do evil spirits.I mean demons like that?" Ask me again
"One because it wants to obtain power, life energy is the main source for performing magic. Second, the revenge. And third, the reason for it." Alan lowered his voice, his eyes staring intently at the window.
"Why?"
"Then, the year of a thousand AD. There was a great battle between the spirits that almost scorched the earth. There are two camps in this war, the good camp led by the spirit ancestors and the evil camp led by the Devil Arzel. Arzel wanted this earth so badly that he tried to rule it all. However it was prevented by the spirit ancestors and succeeded. Arzel is dying and flees with his followers, the demons.
His faithful followers, so vengeful against men and good spirits. As a form of impingement, they vow to destroy the humans who are saved by good spirits." Alan was silent for a moment.
"Well, maybe you saw me like a crazy person telling me his delusion. But hey, you've seen a lot of crazy things today, so I don't think it's a problem." Alan said casually while leaning his back against the chair. I just kept quiet while digesting her words just now.
"The world is not as simple as you see it. Humans do not live alone, there are so many other wonders out there. Something that cannot be seen or explained does not mean nothing and is impossible, only that we cannot explain it." Alan muttered while looking at the bus window.
"What is that demon? even kill a human who doesn't know anything." I said it while clenching my hands, anger began to flare up in my chest.
"True, for the sake of destroying humans they do anything. Kill, destroy, eat man. All they do." Alan said hatefully.
"Eating?" I was silent hearing that.
"True, eating humans. Remember, humans are creatures with abundant life energy and it becomes the source of the power of the demons. The more humans eat the more powerful the demonic magic."
After he said that, the atmosphere became silent. No one spoke anymore between us, only the sound of the AC bus filling this silence.
"It's over." Alan muttered breaking the silence, he stood up. I stood up to give him a way, and I followed him behind.
"Welcome to the hunter's village" Alan said proudly as he got off the bus, we were on the side of a paved road. In front of us was an amazing sight.
I just stared silently in amazement. In front of me lay a hill covered in white mist, thousands of steps from the rock leading to the top of the hill waiting for us. The sight gave a mystical impression even my feathers sat me up to stand. I was silent for a moment remembering something important.
"When did we get up the hill? from earlier on the bus I didn't feel past the ramp." I asked in wonder
"Because of magic." Alan said casually "You know a lot of weird and amazing things by using magic, like making a labyrinth house and letting out fire.
"Right, but they're using it wrong" Alan replied casually. I who was standing next to him just nodded.
"Now follow me, we will go to the village of hunters," Alan turned right and began to climb the stairs.
Ten minutes, we were silent while busy with our own steps. The night air pierced my body making me shiver. A few times my teeth rolled, I hugged my own body to warm. The night sky looks purplish black, the stars shine show its beauty, the crescent moon hangs majestically in the dark sky.
My feelings are mixed. Angry, sad, afraid, all united. My mind is already messed up, my mentality is falling, I feel like I want to give up on living, there is no reason I live anymore.
"Hey, you're crying." Alan stopped while looking at me
"Eh..," I fell silent and held my face, soaked in tears.
"You still think about it?" Alan asked pity.
"Yes. You know that kind of thing is hard to forget." I wiped the tears.
"Don't lose hope."
"Did I have a reason to live?"
"That's it, but your father asked you to live happily,"
"I can be happy!?" Excruciate.
"Let's go. But if you die your father will be sad, you know," Alan said sadly. I was still silent, tears still flowing down my face. Silent for a moment.
"You can be a hunter, avenge the deeds of the demons."
"Eitherway. I don't think revenge will solve the problem."
"If you don't slaughter the demons it's the same, right?" Alan said casually staring at the ceiling. I just fell silent, what he said was true when he saw what happened to me.
"Let's continue the journey," Alan immediately climbed the stairs back, I just nodded and followed him. About five minutes up the stairs, we finally reached the village gate. Is the gate made of brown or black wood? I don't know it's too foggy here so it's hard to see, the gate's five meters high. Alan opened the gate, slowly it opened wide
"I say it again. Welcome to the village of hunters," Alan spread his arms as if welcoming. I was speechless, amazed to see the countryside behind Alan. Village houses are neatly lined, green rice fields scattered here and there. The fog forest that gives the impression of a mystical background into the countryside.
Alan gestured to follow him, so I followed him. My brown eyes glanced here and there, paying attention to the details of the countryside. Understandably I'm a city boy, almost my whole life I've never come to the countryside. I was very interested in the beauty and tranquility of the village and was eager to see it directly with my own eyes.
"You're kind of unique. Usually the people of the city would put on a look of disdain at the sight of the countryside," Alan said softly.
"Yes.I'm a little different. You know the beauty of nature like this a hundred times better than the hustle and bustle of the city," I answered him. I don't know why my heart feels so much calmer now.
"By the way, the fog we saw from below was magic, right?" I asked.
"Yes.right." Alan answered briefly.
I inhaled air while walking on the dirt road. I put my hand in my pants pocket to warm up. There was no more conversation between us just the sound of the wind blowing over.
Drap Drape
Alan and I reflexively turned to the source of the voice. From a distance a mother ran while carrying a boy on her back. The mother's face looked so chaotic, her face was filled with tears, her hair was disheveled, while running the mother was sobbing.
Alan who saw it immediately turned right and ran small towards the mother. I just kept quiet while wondering.
"Alan!" The mother exclaimed hysterically, slowly she lowered the boy on her back.
"What's wrong? What happened to Anang?" Alan asked worriedly.
"Devil possessed him.The devil from the forest of mist possessed him! Save her!" The mother cried out hysterically, breaking the silence at night.
"Quiet I'll definitely save her!" Alan carried the boy over his shoulder and then ran past me.
"Come on! Follow me." he cried while running. I started running to catch up with him. For a second, I've been teaching her steps. The boy in the car Alan was crazy, he was screaming and thrashing.
"What's going on?" seruku shocked.
"The devil is trying to get his body!" He answered while handling the boy's roast.
"Where are we going?!" I gasped for breath, this guy was running really fast.
"House of the village chief! There we can heal this child" he cried.
AND ARGH!!!THE ARGH!!
The boy roared increasingly, his roar getting stronger, his roar sounded like a savage beast, his teeth turning into fangs, his pupils shrinking emitting a murderous lust. Alan could only hold back his thrones while continuing to run.
CRUST!
My eyes widened as I stared at the source of the voice, Alan could only scream in disbelief. The head of the child he was carrying rotated a hundred and eighty degrees.
"No!!" Alan exclaimed hysterically. He accelerated further and left me behind, I was panting and shocked to just keep running to follow him so as not to get lost. I clenched my hand, I bit my lips hard, the anger in my chest began to overflow.
I think I want to be a hunter. Seeing everything the devil did made me want to slaughter them.
But simultaneously there were other conflicting feelings in my heart.
