20.What an unpleasant surprise
In the deepest part of his heart, Ethan hopes things can go a different way, but he knows it's just his wishful thinking. When the troops he was accompanying finally reached one of the many farms the devil had attacked, he saw the creatures for the first time. The creature was a red monster that was even smaller than a five-year-old child. But they can fly. They also have a dot year and a tail with a triangular-shaped tip. With one look, only one word could describe them: demons.
Ethan, the army doesn't have time to prepare. The nearby farms were already on fire because the little demons could breathe fire like they could breathe air. Still, their endurance was severely lacking. They could cause a lot of chaos and destruction, but they died like insects due to their numbers.
Ethan sweats bullets while watching the sea of fire caused by monsters, but the army commander still smiles at him and even pats him on the shoulder to push him away. The commander knows that Ethan is just a boy, he will become a true hero in the future, but at that time, he is just a boy.

After saying that, the army commander charged towards the gremlin horde. The soldiers also followed him while shouting as if that was enough to make them survive. Ethan only awakens from a daze when he sees some children even smaller than him equipped with some cheap armor and weapons pass him by. They were not summoned heroes; they did not possess any extraordinary powers that defied the logic given by an unknown entity. However, they are not afraid of death. In fact, they looked as if they were going to die happily, as long as their deaths could protect their country.
Moral forces also filled Ethan with energy, and he charged towards the demon horde as well. Some of the gremlin was foolish enough to try to attack him empty-handed, but Ethan did not hesitate to cut them off one by one and in the blink of an eye. His iron sword looked extremely sharp that day.
However, things change when the gremlin sees their allies being slashed left and right by humans. As if someone had controlled them, they stopped doing whatever they were doing and formed several lines facing the army. Ethan doesn't like it, neither does his commander, but neither of them gives the order to retreat. Stopping the soldiers now would only end their momentum and put them at a vulnerable position, causing more deaths. Seeing the summoned commander and hero charging towards the monsters only made the soldier's blood boil even more.
Unfortunately, although some warriors develop resistance to magic, none of them have skills as comfortable as Ethan or sturdy defense equipment like the commander of an army. As a result, many soldiers were burned.
At that moment, even Ethan was in a frenzy after killing so many gremlin. Seeing them cut in half and then suffering to death awakened something in him. Anger he had never felt before. Ethan and the army commander, who is an experienced knight, destroy the gremlin army within hours. Surprised by the development, the lich decided to retreat and regroup with some of his surviving soldiers. The human side wins; Ethan wins. However, after seeing the chaos around here, he did not feel like a winner. If anything, he felt like vomiting upon seeing so many corpses, be it demons or humans. The result of such a fight made Ethan feel a pitch-black hole within him. He had never seen anything similar, the faces of those who died in the midst of battle, full of hatred, fear, and suffering. That single fight will leave Ethan unable to sleep for several weeks.
Suddenly, Ethan wakes up. The dream is finally over, but Ethan is not relieved by it. He was sweating like crazy, and his breathing was lethargic. As if that wasn't enough, several light blue screens appeared before him.
