Currently in the living room, Mama Sekar and Zakira just kept quiet. Not a single word was spoken after Nadin's departure. Both are busy in their minds. Either they are confused how. Sometimes Mama Sekar threw a rough breath, until finally the woman asked the daughter-in-law.
"Za, Mama wants to ask, what would you do, if what Nadin said was true?" mama Sekar asked with Zakira's face. He wanted to hear honesty from his daughter-in-law's lips.
"To be honest I never expected polygamy in my household, Ma, but back again, my presence in this house because I was bought by Mr. Gunawan. Whatever life I live now hurts, I will accept it. My body is no longer entirely mine." Zakira tried hard despite the bitterness in her voice.
"Why are you talking like that? You know very well that Papa Gunawan never meant that. She just wants you to marry Calvin, that's all. We never meant to buy you so, you don't feel burdened with everything."
Zakira smiled, she actually felt that way too, but the woman was also self-conscious of who she was. It is impossible to act like it. But what he said was not just nonsense. Zakira would still endure even though Calvin was suing her, unless the man himself asked her to leave, then she would give up on this household. However, still the woman will try to be with the husband as she made her agreement with the in-laws.
"I am so grateful to have known Mama, who has always treated me like a child, when I started to lose my parents' affection. Thank you, Ma."
Unknowingly tears were dripping down Zakira's cheeks, she was already unable to say what she was feeling. These are not tears of sadness, but happiness because the woman can feel loved and needed.
"You are my daughter, until whenever you are my daughter. Although Calvin never considered your existence, Mama has started to love you. Somehow your household will be, you will forever remain Mama's daughter. Whatever you feel and whatever you want, just say it because Mama is your mama."
Zakira immediately hugged the in-law without saying anything. A thousand thanks he said. God was so good to him, that he sent in-laws as good as Mama Sekar. Previously the woman thought she would receive torture when she knew Papa Gunawan bought it, but now it is the opposite.
"Ma, what's wrong? Why did Mama ask me to come home so soon and Zakira too, why are you crying?" ask Calvin who just came.
The man looked like he was confused. At her mother's office, she suddenly sent a message so she could go home. Something happened at home, but when he saw his wife was crying in the arms of Mama Sekar. Calvin doesn't know what happened and what to do.
Zakira who heard the husband's voice immediately broke her embrace and wiped away the tears that had soaked her cheeks. Mama Sekar looked at her son in disappointment. Calvin could also see that, but he tried to calm down so that his emotions would not be provoked.
"Sit down! There is something that Mama wants to ask and Mama hopes you say it honestly," said Mama Sekar in a flat tone.
Without asking too much, Calvin obeyed his command. He was just silent and getting more and more confused by the present situation. I don't know why the man felt that something was upsetting his mother. Especially when Calvin saw his wife crying, it must be something big.
"Ask, Ma. If I could be honest, I'd say."
"So Nadin came here, he came to hold you accountable and I hope you answer him honestly. Is she really pregnant with your child?"
Calvin also glared at his eyes. She did not expect that Nadin would actually come to the house and hold her accountable for what was not hers. It was eager for the man to come to his ex-lover and make a calculation. However, Calvin is not a cowardly man who can throw tantrums with women.
He took a deep breath and replied, "Ma, I was in a relationship with Nadin, but I'm sure that the child in Nadin's womb is not my son. It's been a long time we've never met, let alone been in a relationship."
All this time he thought his son was a good man, who would never demean a woman by doing such a thing. But the reality is inversely proportional. Mama Sekar felt like a failure as a mother. If only he had been stricter with the son, it would not have been like this.
"I'm sorry, Ma. I was ... I ...."
Calvin was confused as to what to say. If he was honest then he could make sure his mother would be even more angry, but if he just kept quiet, then slander would be pinned on him.
"Why not continue? What's wrong with you? Mama doesn't want any more lies so, please tell me the truth."
Calvin closed his eyes for a moment and he would accept whatever his mother would do, including if hatred from the woman who had given birth to him. Calvin decides he does not want any more lies that will destroy him.
"Actually I was under the influence of alcohol until I was not aware of what I had done" replied Calvin quietly with his head lowered.
"What! So besides you fornicating you have also drunk haram? Athaghfirullah! Has Mama been lacking in educating you until you have lost control like that? What was your fault until you got like this? You should know whatever you do it's Mama's responsibility."
Mama Sekar cried because she felt broken. She could not believe that her son had the heart to do so When Nadin came to hold her accountable, she was one hundred percent sure that Calvin was not that kind of man. Now hearing what came out of his son's mouth, such great trust simply disappeared. Somehow he will later account for all the mistakes of his son.
"I'm sorry Calvin, Ma. I really didn't mean it that way. I was completely unconscious."
"As far as you are concerned, Mama no longer cares what you will do. Mama's tired, whatever you want, but don't hurt Zakira, she's Mama's daughter. Only she can trust this time and Mama won't be willing if she has to be hurt for what she never did."
After saying so Mama Sekar got up from his seat and walked towards the room. His disappointment in the son was so great, he needed to calm down so as not to get carried away by emotions.
"Zakira, you have to believe that what Nadine said is not true. Trust me!"
"It's true or not, what does it do to me, Mom? Our marriage is just a covenant so, you have a relationship with anyone nothing to do with me. I have no right to forbid it either."
Zakira tried to stay strong even though her heart was crying, as much as possible she would look strong in front of her husband.
Calvin who heard what his wife said felt hurt. It was all true, but why did his heart feel hurt. Whether what this feeling was, one thing was certain, the man did not want Zakira to leave him. The house was alive after the woman arrived.
He did not want to go back as before. To bring things back to the way they were, Calvin had to go to Nadin and ask women to tell him the truth. The man does not want to be punished for what he did not do.
Zakira left the husband who was still in his place. He also needed time to calm his mind. His lips did say no matter, but his heart was completely wounded.
