Marinka and four others could have served first on the second day he was in the region. At first he was shocked because from his barracks he just heard a bomb and also several shots.
But over time it was common, almost every minute there was a sound of gunfire or bombs exploding. It always surprised Marinka.
"Okay, there's a first assignment for us. We're heading to the refugee camp, where there are some civilian casualties hit by gunfire and bombs on the road. Let's help treat them, this is our first assignment. We're working fine" said Marinka's troupe chief.
Marinka's entourage contained five men, of which fifty were divided into twenty-five groups, one group of five. And they were scattered in several places where the population was prone to being hit by gunfire and bomb attacks from the warring people.
Marinka and four others headed to the refugee camp, which was evacuated by officers on guard to retrieve and carry victims. Marinka noticed that four people were injured, she took the medicine box and approached one of the victims.
His leg was hit, the male victim of the gunshot was in pain. Marinka does not speak the country, so she only uses English and sign language.
"Lord be calm, yes, I will treat it" Marinka said in her sign language.
"OK-okay" said the man.
Marinka tried to grab a small knife to retrieve the bullet that targeted the man's leg. He's learned a lot about how to get a bullet out of the body of the person who was shot. The knife was laced with alcohol so as not to infect the flesh on the man's leg.
Then Marinka tried to press the man's leg and slowly stick the blade and tried to gouge out a visible bullet. The man screamed loudly, it turned out Marinka could bear with the incident.
"Aargha! Sakiit!" yelled the man.
Four of Marinka's groupmates saw Marinka so bravely gouging out the nested bullets that the man she was helping screamed from the pain of his bullet was being forcibly taken by Marinka.
"Aargha!"
"Had the bullet come out, I've treated it" said Marinka, relieved that she could have taken the bullet from the man's body.
Marinka's first assignment was amazing to the rest of the friends. Dare to take a bullet, he also deftly treat the foot that was taken by the bullet.
"I've treated, hopefully healed his wound" said Marinka still with sign language.
"Yes, thank you" said the man.
"Where are you going?" marinka asked as the man got up from his seat.
"My son is stuck in the hallway there, I have to take him away" said the man.
"But you're hurt, just here. Don't go anywhere." said Marinka.
"My child! He's stuck in the hallway!" said again.
Marinka is confused, she approaches one officer and asks him. He had been in the refugee camp for a long time, so he thought he knew what the man he had been treating said.
"I'm sorry, what's that guy talking about?" ask Marinka.
The male officer approached the man who had been treated by Marinka. He asked what he had said to Marinka.
"She said she wanted to pick up her son who was stuck in the hallway. So he went there, took his son away" said the officer.
Marinka was silent, she looked at the man she had been treating. He left on foot limping next door because of the shot earlier. It feels sad, in such conditions he still forces the way and wants to save his trapped son.
Marinka walking will help the man, but her hands are prevented by her friend.
"He is not unwilling to be treated, but wants to find his son who is trapped. I want to help her" said Marinka.
"Just let Marinka, a lot of people here who were hit by gunfire and treated go straight away again. Most importantly our task is done and help others again" said the group.
Marinka let out a long sigh, she then sat down. It feels very sorry, just treated as well. But he was grateful to be able to get the bullet out of the man's leg.
"Maraik! Quickly there's a new victim, you take care of him" said the group's leader named Fandi.
"There again?" ask Marinka.
"Of course, every minute in make sure there will always come a new victim. So you do not be surprised to serve here there is no pause to linger. Just sitting down, there will definitely be casualties coming again" said the long-serving officer at the camp.
"Yes, sorry. I'm just surprised, all right. I will work and help them quickly and nimble" Marinka said.
"Good, so do not be surprised if every few minutes will always come and after they are treated immediately go again. Because it is like that, after all, our camp is narrow if it accommodates people who are only shot in the foot or in the hand. What needs to be taken care of is a pretty serious injury" the camp official said.
"Well, I'll pay attention to everything" Marinka said.
He then helped the victim again, treating his wounds on the face due to a bomb splash. There was no pain in the man Marinka treated, probably because it was common so there was no worry in the look on his face.
"illness?" marinka asked, smearing alcohol on the man's face.
"No, this is my usual experience." replied the man flatly.
"Oohs. How many times have you been hit by a bomb or shot?" ask Marinka with a signal.
"Ten times" he answered by pointing his hands at Marinka's face.
It made the girl shocked and put her face back. He smiled faintly, then replaced the alcohol with betadin liquid on his face.
"Well, it's lucky you're always safe. God still loves your life" Marinka said.
"Yes, because I am brave" said the man puffing his chest.
Marinka smiled, she felt that there was a bit of entertainment from the man. Smearing his face with cotton that has betadin liquid. And then he cleaned it all up, and looked at the man.
"Here you're done" said Marinka.
"Thank you, miss" he said.
"Yes, you'r welcome." replied Marinka.
The man got up and he went out of the camp. Marinka looked at the man who had just come out, then took out his medicine box. But again he saw officers carrying other victims on stretchers. Soon Marinka approached the victim who was quite severe.
