Remy coded us to walk past one of the guards silently. I nodded, then lowered my head a little while followed by Loren at the back.
Upon our arrival on the other side, I again staked out behind the fence and observed the largest tent we were about to ambush.
The tent was built on a wooden structure that formed in such a way that it became a foundation. On it was a white tent that had become dull and turned brownish in color.
The entrance of the tent was not guarded, it made it easier for us to get inside. But around the tent there are dozens of criminals who roam there.
“How do we get in? Too many people there.” Remy said in a slightly panicked tone.
“Where did our ambush team go just now?” ask them both.
“Ke east.” Loren replied quickly.
“Alright, you guys go east and tell them to start the attack early. It will divert them and after these guards leave I will enter the tent.”
“No!” Loren protest. “I'll accompany you. Too dangerous go alone!”
I grunt. “Be careful, Remy. Don't get caught.”
Remy nodded and finally disappeared into the darkness. Loren and I looked at each other, pulled out our swords and checked each other's pistols.
“Loren.” Call me when he puts a bullet in his gun.
Loren raised his face to look at me, “What's up?”
“Usahkan don't die. It would be very annoying if the next Baron is your male cousin.”
Loren smiled, “I promise not to die today, Young Master.”
I'm laughing a little.
We finally waited in the dark. After waiting for quite a long time, finally the sound of musket shooting sounded.
The criminals sitting in front of the tent immediately got up and ran towards the source of the sound. Seeing this opportunity me and Loren immediately lunged into the tent that was already unguarded.
But as I entered, I found a young man, in his 20s, with a blindfold on his left eye and disheveled hair.
The man looked at me in astonishment. But I don't have much time to look at it. The man was smearing his sword with something, it smelled so bad and made me think it was poison.
I immediately pulled out a gun to shoot him, but before that all the men took out another bottle from under his cloak and slammed it on the floor. It was a smoke bomb.
In an instant the contents of the tent were instantly filled with a thin white mist. I am thankful that this is not toxic smoke. I'm pocketing my gun back. Tying my back to Loren's back which is now clashing against each other.
The only thing I could hear was the sound of footsteps. Moving here and there, the distance was getting closer to me. I prepared the sword.
When the distance was really close, I immediately slashed my saber sword towards the front. Sure enough, the man in front of me was sneaking around.
But my attack that just got hit was easily by him. Loren who was still holding the gun pulled the trigger and shot at the man who was only half a meter away from me.
The man jumped back into the smoke and the bullet missed. Loren and I turned back. We sharpened each other's hearing.
In the middle of it all, I could clearly hear the sound of musket rifles being shot consecutively. Certainly from our infantry.
A few seconds later, the white fog that was filling up finally slowly disappeared. I can see clearly back.
But that second suddenly a sword tip was already in front of my eyes, I immediately lowered my head and slashed back with my sword.
My slash only managed to tear the surface of the man's robe.
We both took a few steps back to keep our distance. Now I can see the figure I'm playing clearly.
But there were not a few seconds, the man immediately greeted me again because he realized Loren was aiming at him with a gun.
I repelled the attack again, this man kept approaching, reducing the space between us to make it difficult for Loren to shoot.
His swordplay uses one hand, just like me. But it is clear from his movement that it is a self-created movement.
He did not follow the basic rules of sword arts. This man was just an ordinary person trying to look like a noble.
After quite a while, I finally found his weak point after he tried to swing the sword. I deflected his attack, focused my counterattack power on his temple, and as I expected, he repelled.
As a result, the man crashed back a few steps but could still stand firm.
When the distance was created, Loren quickly shot. The sound of the gun rumbled, but fate said something else.
The man managed to align his sword so that the bullet that should have hit his heart was split open and only tore the surface of his ribs.
He groaned in pain and immediately counterattacked by throwing smoke bombs a second time.
I quickly recalled the location of the exit just now and smashed it with my body. If there is one thing that a recently injured person wants to do then it is to escape.
I positioned myself parallel to the direction I thought was the exit.
After a few seconds, the fog finally disappeared and I realized that the place I was guarding was not the door. I quickly searched for Loren and found his figure as confused as mine.
No more signs of the man. He's running away. Feeling somewhat safe, Loren immediately ran towards me, checking my arms and neck. “Thank God you're okay, Luca. That was very dangerous.”
I smiled, rubbed the top of his head and calmed him down.
“Are we going after him?” ask Loren.
I'm shaking. “Too risky. We never know where he's hiding. Working on it will probably only lead us to another trap that they have prepared.”
I walked to the desk in the tent, looked and checked every piece of paper on it. Loren came closer and took a look. There, I found something surprising.
Put the paper here is not just any document, it's a letter. These criminals send letters to each other, working with other groups that exist. It's a network.
I kept reading the letters all over the table and finally came to a conclusion, “Loren, they were not just escapees trying to survive.
They are recruiting, living in groups, and trying to build strength. They're more than we imagined.”
Loren gulped after hearing my explanation.
“These criminals communicate with each other. They're working out a plan.” I showed you another 20 letters that are on the table. “This was all written by the respective heads of the escape group. Each of them has 100 troops. That means we're not just dealing with ordinary criminals. These people, they are planning a rebellion.”
Loren looked at me in amazement. From the direction of the entrance, suddenly Remy and Sir Ingard went inside.
I could see the intense emotion from Sir Ingard's eyes. But I don't have time for this right now. I need to get back to Bensten and report to Papa.
***
The horse I drove into the front yard of the mansion, after finally reaching the front door, I pulled my plan to stop the horse. After the horse stopped properly I jumped down and the servants immediately grabbed my horse saddle.
One of the maids tried to take off my armor but I was soon pushed away. I don't have time for this. I walked into the mansion and met my older sister and younger sister, Lady Mira and Lady Lucy, embroidery in the spacious living room.
Lucy, who first noticed my whereabouts, immediately ran towards me and hugged me tightly.
“Kak Luca, why does sister look messy? Isn't brother just going for an inspection? Did something happen?” asked Lucy in a worried tone.
I smiled, rubbed his head so he could calm down and looked at Brother Mira. “Where's Papa?”
“She is having guests in her study.”
I nodded and looked back at Lucy. “Lucy, will you help me?”
Lucy nodded quickly.
“I haven't slept all night. Will you go to the kitchen and help Auntie Jimu make me some coffee? I love your coffee.”
Lucy nodded steadily, “Good, Brother!” then run eagerly into the kitchen.
In the meantime I walked straight to Papa's study upstairs. My body felt heavy and tired. After our ambush in the valley, we finally won the fight.
Thanks to the manoeuvres of the ambush troops who had been hard-earned to climb the cliff, we finally managed to win without any casualties.
Our forces have captured more than 40 criminals. The rest died in the fight.
After taking care of all the prisoners overnight, I finally left Sir Ingard to take care of the rest. Towards sunrise I finally arrived at Espern and continued riding until we reached our mansion.
I arrived in front of Papa's office. I could clearly hear their conversation. After waiting for a few seconds, I finally opened the door and went inside.
Everyone in the room fell silent and looked at me. The merchants clearly seemed distracted by my sudden appearance.
“I'm sorry, gentlemen, this is my third child and my second son, Luca.” Papa got up from his chair and introduced me.
I bowed slightly saluting the older ones then went back to silence.
Realizing that I was still wearing armor, which meant that there was something very important, Papa immediately said, “It seems like our conversation should be postponed until lunch, gentlemen. Please.”
Papa accompanied the old men to the outside, after parting, he closed the door, then sat back behind his desk. He looked at me carefully then said, “What happened in Espern?”
I pulled out a stack of letters I found last night and handed them to Papa. Papa himself immediately read solemnly. In silence, his eyes looked terrible.
“Do you fight them all?” ask Papa.
“No. I went there to save a little girl who was kidnapped. But I found these letters and come straight here now to inform him.”
“How many of them did you fight?”
“100.”
“And how many of our troops were killed?”
“Nothing. Some were injured, but not quite as badly. They can still walk.”
Papa raised an eyebrow. “It seems like the war theories you learned with Anspald you applied well. Good work, Nak.”
I bowed in respect to Papa.
Papa read the letters again and concluded, “Then these criminals are gathering people to enter their group. The number reached 2000 and it seems like they are led by capable people. It's dangerous.”
I nodded, “And this is just a collection of criminals in Bensten County and Louth. We don't know if there are any other groups out there.”
Papa mangguk. “You are right... You are right..”.
Suddenly, Papa's office door was knocked. He asked who, but was not answered. A few seconds later Lucy appears with a tray filled with a glass of warm coffee. I smiled at him, and so did Papa. I immediately received my coffee and brewed it. Funny himself immediately ran around the table and sat on Papa's lap.
“Enak, Brother Luca?” ask Lucy excitedly.
“The best.” My answer.
“Go get some rest, Luca. It seems that annual inspections throughout Bensten County should be delayed until the issue subsides.”
I nodded, then withdrew from the room. Arriving outside, only then did I feel my whole body was tired instead of playing.
I sighed heavily, sipped my warm coffee and then went downstairs. When I got downstairs, I found Hansel, my eldest brother, heir to the Bensten County throne, the next Count, in the middle of the main pavilion from the kitchen with his merchant friends. He was a little surprised to see me here.
“Luca! I thought you were still on your inspection duty?” Hansel came closer, examined me and said, “Yes my God, what's wrong with your appearance? Did you just wrestle with ****-**** in the mud?”
I stared at Hansel sharply. This guy always acts silly and embarrasses others as much as possible. But no, not with me.
“See you failed the hunt, Hansel. Again.”
Hansel snorts easy, “Who said we hunt?”
“The boot shoes are full of mud, thick gloves, even the bow and arrow. You're a bad liar, Hansel.”
Hansel looked at me irritatedly but he had not had time to reply I preceded, “But no wonder. Your hunting group is the kids who spend their parents' money.” I stared at one of the moderately obese children with distinctive green eyeballs. “You're there, you're the mayor's son Espern, a fat man named Jerome, ‘kan?”
“Eh…? Eh— yes..”
“I was just from Espern yesterday. Your father had a pretty interesting business apparently. You certainly never tried your father's merchandise, ‘kan?”
“Eh.. I've never been, Your Honor. Oath.”
I'm laughing a little. But my scorn for the fat guy turned out to hurt Hansel's self-esteem as well. Hansel snatched my collar straight away, but I didn't let it go for long.
I immediately grabbed his shoulder and floated a kick with my knee to his stomach.
Hansel quickly fell to the floor and grimaced in pain.
If I want to, I can beat him up. But I'm too lazy for that. I looked at all of Hansel's friends and smiled at them.
They threw their faces away and just looked down. That way, I once again established my position in this dear family of mine.
