The Saga Of Luca The Conquerorant

The Saga Of Luca The Conquerorant
CHPTR: II AMBUSH

I still pointed the flintlock gun right at Jerome's forehead and watched him closely. Jerome's eyes widened crumbling with confidence.

This tension made his mouth gap wide, it was difficult to release words out of his throat. All of that was compounded by the sound of door slams getting louder.

Sir Ingard was still standing guard against the door with the saber sword in his hand.

The sound of the door getting louder made me even more uncomfortable. I'm pointing

gun deeper into Jerome's face and said coldly, “Speaking, Jerome.”

“A-I

don't know! I don't know the oath at all!”

I noticed the look on his face that had not changed at all. Obviously he was scared. He also looked as confused as we were.

After a long thought for a while I finally decided to trust Jerome. But I did not lower my guard, I pointed the gun at the door and coded Ingard to open it.

Sir Ingard nodded then quickly opened the door.

“Luca, you have to go down now!” remy said in a panicked tone after the door opened.

I stared at Remy sharply. Remy is the opposite. After a long time, I laughed a little. Remy who did not understand and felt strange immediately asked, “May I know why you put a gun on me?”

“Just misunderstand, Remy.” I glanced at Jerome and then smiled knotty. “We will continue this matter later.”

That way we walked out of the room and followed Remy down. When we got downstairs, I found a circle of people in the middle of the banquet hall.

They were circling a middle-aged woman in a yellow dress full of kitchen spice stains. Her hat says she's a cook.

“Poor woman, her son was kidnapped this morning while she was at work. Her captor left behind a piece of paper and a haircut of the little boy. They want ransom.” Remy obviously told me.

I nodded in understanding and walked through the crowd. Upon my arrival there the woman's eyes quickly recognized my status.

He got up from his seat and ran towards me. But my bodyguards quickly held him back, strong enough and not too rude just to keep him away from me.

He seemed to have no problem, then quickly whined to report to me, Dear “Yes, please save Francis! He's just a kid! He doesn't deserve this treatment!”

I coded my bodyguard to release this woman and slowly led her back to the bench. Her small frail body of the terrace was so weak as I carried her sitting.

There the waiter quickly served him a glass of wine to calm him down. I waited for him to calm down. After that, we can talk.

“When Francis was kidnapped?” my many.

The woman wiped her tears and replied, “At 6 or 7 this morning while I was working.”

“Can I have the paper they left?”

The woman took out a piece of paper that was written like this;

Your son is in our hands. Meet us at 3pm today in front of the Alpis forest with 100 gold coins or you'll find your son's body in the sewer 5 days from now

A short, solid letter. These kidnappers are certainly not playful and quite serious about their abductions.

To kidnap a child who must have revolted and take him secretly out of the city without people realizing it, they must have devised this plan a long time ago.

I got up from my seat, walked over to Sir Ingard and showed him the letter. Sir Ingard read carefully then said, “Do we have to keep watch around Alpis now, Mister?”

I bit the green apple I was still carrying earlier and bit deep enough.

Loren who was nearby and happened to hear my answer immediately left the crowd and walked towards me, “Luca, you cannot leave this poor woman! I'm not even sure he's got 100 gold pieces to make up for the pay!”

I looked irritatedly at Loren. This temperamental girl has been riling me up since childhood. We grew up together, so I clearly knew his stubbornness. I also explained to Loren, “I didn't say I was leaving them. I'm just asking Sir Ingard not to stand guard around the forest right now.”

I walked towards the stairs while being followed by Sir Ingard, the dissatisfied Loren returned following full of questions, “Then? Don't you intend to help them?”

In the middle of the stairs up towards Jerome's office I stopped and turned to stare intently at Loren. “When do you intend to sew your dirty mouth and shut up?”

After saying so Loren immediately lowered his face deeply and silently. I snorted, then continued up the stairs.

I went back into Jerome's room, got the man still stiffly silent in his chair. Feeling rather hot, I loosened the outer layer of my armor.

Sir Ingard quickly helped me and placed it on the table in the corner of the room.

I walked back to Jerome, sat on the same bench and then asked, “So what do you know about this group of kidnappers in town, Jerome? Do you guys have some kind of criminal union here? Did you get a cut from their activities too?”

This time Jerome answered quickly with the right defending tone, “For God's sake, Your Honor, I've never heard anything about it.”

I watched Jerome's face carefully. He said the real thing.

“Of course. You're not a kidnapper. You're just a Ruffe.” dealer I bit the green apple again, then talk slowly, “How many kidnapping cases like the one now this year?”

“This is the first of the year, Your Honor.”

“Is there no group of thieves in this city?”

“As far as I know nothing, Dear One.”

I'm nodding. “Then this will be difficult.”

Jerome looked at me closely. His eyes began to feel friendly and curious. “May I know why, Your Honor?”

I looked at Jerome carefully, then after feeling certain I explained, “What do you think I should do?”

“Of course help the girl, Your Honor. You have 50 soldiers, 5 of them Count Monte's own mainstay knights. With the help of the city guards we can definitely subdue them all.” Jerome said with a fiery spirit.

“And how do we subdue them?”

Jerome smiled then started explaining, “We will be guarding around the forest. The trip there only takes 30 minutes, Your Honor. You can even put up barricades so that no one can enter or leave the city towards the forest. That way we can catch those kidnappers quickly!”

I smiled at her explanation. Then reply, “Thank you, Jerome. Please come out now. I'll borrow your room for a minute.”

Jerome looked at me in surprise, but this time he did not ask and just kept quiet. After Jerome came out, I said to Sir Ingard, “Call all our soldiers here. Loren and Remy included. At least they can learn a little from this inspection.”

Sir Ingard nodded in understanding and walked out. Not long after, everything was here. The room suddenly filled and felt crowded.

I turned my chair to face all of them standing. I said, “We'll save Francis at 3. We can't stand guard in the woods because it's impossible for the kidnappers to be there right now. Finding and questioning people will also be free now. But there's one thing we know. These kidnappers, they're amateurs. This is their first try and they will be more careful. We should not underestimate this cautious nature. They must have spies around here and our every talk will be noticed. So keep your talk in front of the Esperns. What we're going to do is send Francis' mother to the Alpis forest and follow her from a short distance away. Once contact with the kidnappers is confirmed, we will ambush them and attack the kidnappers' premises. Anything to ask?”

Everyone was silent and seemed to understand. “Well then, disperse now and try not to be suspicious.”

All the soldiers performed military salutes and walked out of the room. When it's all out, Loren's there. I looked at him and smiled. Loren walked over and said, “Sorry, I was too rash. I didn't expect that they would have spies here.”

I grunt. “I also didn't know they had spies. Just careful. Nothing to lose, right?"

Loren smiled, “Yes, you're right Luca. You are indeed reliable.”

I bit my green apple once more and smiled at Loren.
