Chapter 7 Hope

Hope

(In 2009, Adolescent Abil)

Forests are the producers of tens of thousands of wood species that have different characters and types. In the journal immiliah Nature, researchers estimate there are about 3 Trillion types of trees in the world. Of the many species, Indonesia has many trees that grow and develop in the forest every island. One of them is Sengon tree type or other name is Albasiah.

Which has a scientific name Albizia falcata Backer is a type of wood that is included in strong wood with durability fifth to sixth grade. This sengon tree can grow up to 45 meters in height with a diameter of about 70 cm. The specific gravity of the sengon itself is around 230 to 500 kg/m3 with a moisture content of 12% to 15%.

Characteristic on the wood named latin Albizia falcata backer is to have a white sapwood, but there are some are brownish pink. This sengon has a light weight, it is because the sengon wood does not have a good density level. Because this wood is not too strong so it requires special care when it is used, with good care and proper care can extend the life of the wood.

And because of its lightweight and economical superiority, making this type of wood widely used by humans in industrial needs, for example to be used as a material for paper and pulp. In addition, this wood is also widely used in making furniture such as tables, chairs, cabinets, lightweight construction and even not infrequently used as home interior ornaments.

In Java sengon is popular with the name Albasiah, in Maluku many people call it by the name asawaku or sika, while in Papua sengon sea is called wahogon. This type of sea wood has the advantage of being easy to process with a drying process that does not require a long time

In addition to Albasiah, Sengon solomon type is also one of the choices of wood farmers, because it has a very fast growth period, because it has a very fast growth period, it is known because at the age of 2 years the height of the solomon sengon tree can reach 14 meters. The solomon sengon tree has strong taproot with its straight wood fibers as well as a shiny wood surface.

Farmers in the village of Abil about eighty percent choose to grow sengon Albasia rather than sengon salomon. Although the selling price is higher, the seeds used as seeds are fairly expensive, can be up to four times the price of ordinary sengon or albasiah. And respectively in the breeding period both have the same time, which is about three to five months to reach a height of one meter and ready to sell.

Because the price is fairly good and stable, many people who plant this type of tree. And Abil's residence area is one of the areas that is famous for this Sengon or Albasiah nursery. Many people in Abil village in the last ten years depend on their lives as sengon seed farmers, including the Abil family.

“HHHHHHHH, HHHHHH, HHHHHHH, HUHHHHHHHH”

Puffing sound – puffed out of Abil's mouth, his eyes stare sharply towards the front, his right and left feet are pressed down alternately to rotate the bicycle pedal.Yes, the, Currently Abil is on his way home from school meuju home, hot and hot sun makes Abil tighten his bicycle paddles in order to get home soon. But arrived – arrived…….

“Srakkkkkkkkkkkkk”, “EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”…….

“MAS IT ONTELAN BICYCLE FALL” Shouted Mr. – Father from the front of the roadside house under the bridge that was passing Abil.

“IYA PAKKK, I KNOW. KAN ME WHO RIDES A BICYCLE, TIME DOES NOT KNOW IF IT IS FALLING, KAN NGGA MAYBE” Shouted Abil who was upset because the pedal of the bike on the left was loose and fell into the road.

Abil pulled over and then picked up his falling paddle behind him, then led his bike up the bridge.

“Yahhhh, the bolts are gone again. Yaudahlah would not want to use the classic method nih” murmurnya lirih.

It turns out that his pedal bolt was lost when he violently pedaled his bicycle up the bridge, Because it had also happened before, Abil could still continue cycling in a unique way, he said, that is, every three times he had to push his pedal inside with his left foot so as not to fall. Though the journey is still about five kilometers away, and Abil did it until he reached his home.

Arriving at home, Abil immediately changed clothes and ate lunch. He had to hurry to go to the rice field this afternoon because the seedling plants still have to be watered three times a day, namely in the morning, when the, day and evening so as not to wither or even die from lack of water and heat. After eating he immediately went to the rice field with a zinc kingpin and small hoes that will be used to water the plants and weed the nursery area so as not to be disturbed by grass pests.

The nursery land in Abil is quite wide, about 25 m2 with the number of seedlings planted there are about sixty thousand seedlings, with the size of the planting media pot which is 10x5x12 cm. He was helped by his mother to care for seed plants together, his mother now works at a restaurant near the house, so the afternoon after work there is still time and energy to help Abil weed the plants in the fields or help cultivate plant seeds.

Farming seedlings have quite a lot of processes that must be done such as, first – tama process the soil shovel (land taken from the side of the land used as irrigation) until smooth so that it can be input into small pots (planting media), and, then the process of entering the soil into a pot and in a row with a capacity of about a thousand lines, then the process of sterilizing the soil with anti-pest grass, grass, then the process of planting seeds and for the first month is usually flush three times a day, to keep the seedlings from withering or dying because the dry planting media is exposed to sunlight. For the next usually every two weeks in fertilization with chemical fertilizers so that the growth is faster and the quality of the seeds is good, and, if needed also spray pastisida on the plant so that pests are lost and certainly not damaging the quality and growth of seedlings.

Abil did not hire others to help him, he chose to do with his mother in order to save from the cost of hiring people. The cost that he has used only for the initial capital of this business is also quite large, about five million rupiah. Which he used to buy plastic pots, sengon seed seeds and fertilizer. His initial capital was borrowed from Ka Anto who lived abroad, while for his shortcomings, he borrowed, Abil is currently also working odd jobs in the rice fields to help process the process of cultivating nursery land owned by others and not infrequently he worked until midnight so as not to lack money to meet the needs of his business.

The method used to water sengon seedlings is still manual use zinc kingpin by weighing it directly from the well in the rice field that previously also had Abul made alternately with the theme, he said, although the well made is quite a lot, spaced around the tiger per well this is still not effective because it still takes time and a lot of energy.

For one watering Abil usually takes about two hours, except in the morning Abil does not water it too wet and most importantly the water in the pot is enough to keep the plant from wilting until noon, because at six o'clock Abil had to go home and prepare to go to school.

From the time of soil processing to the harvest period takes about six months. The yield is also quite good at this time, with an initial capital of about eight million later can make a profit of about three to four times in the harvest period of about two to three months. Sufficient numbers to meet the needs of the family and save.

Abil did it really –, really, enjoying every process He went through even though sometimes He felt very tired. Dreams can finance his own school, can snack at school and save for his future, making him always eager to live it. Helped by his mother who always supported him to make Abil's determination to do it bigger, he wanted to one day be able to make his mother materially happy not just his bath.

Abil believes that effort will not betray the results, no matter how small the results of the business process he is always grateful. Not always the results as desired, but by processing a desire will look more clear and real, directing to sub – sub things that become goals.
