The Frost Heart

The Frost Heart
And Happen Again...

After finishing his business at the town hall, Jack and Dian go to find lunch at the tavern where Jack works. That time was indeed lunch hour and the stomach both had begun to rumble.

It was also Jack's first experience eating the food he used to bring to customers during his waitress. Jack also introduced Dian to the servants he knew and chatted briefly about some unimportant things.

"So, now what do we do next?" Ask Dian to Jack.

After lunch, they sat on a bench right behind the "Father of Heaven" shower and were unemployed. They permit their respective bosses to miss work during the day, as they expect it to be until the afternoon of their commute and training time. But, in reality there was still time to get to their practice time.

"Ehm, did we go to the library first, Dad?" Proposed Jack.

"ah! What are we doing in the library?" Ask Dian.

"Of course learn. It's necessary to face the exam of the SDP program."

The SDP exam program consists of 2 parts. Magic and theory tests. The theory exam contains common questions, such as math, social, language (the bad part of Dian), and decency. As for the Magic Trials, it consisted of the mana spatial test, magic knowledge test, and magic practice test. The theory exam is not too difficult for Jack and Dian, because it is confirmed by both of them that the contents of the problem are like a matter of elementary school children's exam. This should be the same as a test to get an SD degree with the addition of a magic test.

"No, you're just. I'm lazy to read books..."

Jack had already guessed the reaction from Dian like that. Dian doesn't like books.

"Oh, how much do you hate books? The book is a window to the world. You don't have to go straight to her world, but just look at it from her window."

"Yes anyway. My ability to read English is very poor. I don't want to spend hours reading 2 sheets."

"Because of that, you have to read a lot of books. The more you read, the better your reading ability."

Jack held Dian's right hand. Not that they were Gay, Jack just wanted to drag the lazy Dian to go to the library.

"Ah, tiring...." Complain Dian with her head put on the table.

"Oh, it's only been half an hour's drowning" Jack sneered.

Now they are in the city library which is actually not far from the shower. On the edge of a row of bookshelves, Jack and Dian sat on a bench and read various books.

Dian was tired of reading just one book. While Jack, beside him was stacked books with various types of books. But most of those books are novels by people surnamed Roseblood.

"Say you want to learn, why are you reading a storybook?"

"I'm not in the mood to learn."

"Well! You invited me to study and now you're not even in the mood. You're not that much different from me."

"Yes, because I'm asking you to kill real time."

"If you know this, I'm not going with you."

Then Dian stared at the direction around where it contained books that were annoying to him. Dian sighed boredly and looked back at Jack. He looked at Jack's eyes who was so quick to read the book. He was so good at English and reading like that was natural.

"Hey, Jack. I know you used to be a scavenger and lived a hard life in your own town. But seeing your ability in English makes me a little curious, before who is your scavenger?" Ask Dian.

2 months ago, Jack once told me about his background that he was a scavenger in his town. Dian wonders why Jack has a high ability to speak English, but always forget to ask questions and when remember also always never had time. Right now he remembered when he saw Jack reading and the atmosphere was so precise.

Jack did not answer and just read the book, like ignoring Dian's question. It upset Dian, but soon disappeared when Jack said.

"You could say, I used to be a smart, but unlucky rich kid."

"Unfortunate? Tell me your story."

Jack sighed and closed the book, "I'm sorry, Dian. I don't want to tell you about my life first. I don't want to cry when I remember."

Jack doesn't want to tell Dian about his life. Instead of getting reluctant, Dian even more curious and wanted to urge his friend who was younger 8 years. He was curious about the part that made him cry. But seeing the look on Jack's lazy and flat face, made Dian undo his intentions.

"The rich, but unlucky? Could he be expelled by his family?" Instead of not being told, Dian only guessed Jack's life in his heart.

"It seems like it's afternoon. Let's go to the training ground."

"Eh, isn't it still too early from training hours?"

"What's wrong with coming early?"

"Ehm, not really."

"After all, we can practice feeling which point is earlier. Waiting for Mary to come."

Jack returned the books he had brought. He remembered quite well the position of the shelves and parts of his books, so it did not take long for the books in his hands to run out. When finished, Jack walked to the exit where there was Dian waiting for him.

"We better buy roadside snacks. We shouldn't be time-hunting, should we?"

"Alright, we'll stop by the candy bar first."

Then Jack and Dian went to that roadside candy bar. The type of candy the merchant sold was a lollipop with a wooden puncture under it. In her heart, Dian did not expect Jack to choose to buy lollipops from all snacks on the roadside.

"Did he like lollipops?" Dian looked at Jack with a curious face.

From the moment they knew him, Jack was still a mystery to Dian. Dian only knows that Jack is a scavenger, besides he doesn't know. Like his family, his friends, his passions, and his childhood life, Jack hides everything from Dian, as if Jack would die if he exposed it. He did not even mention the name of his own city.

As Dian was thinking, Jack suddenly looked in a direction. Jack's expression became a little surprised, and he walked towards the direction he looked.

"Eh, you haven't paid yet!" The candy bar prevents Jack from leaving, having brought one of his candies and having not paid. But instead of stopping, Jack walked faster in the direction he looked.

"Hey, Jack. You haven't paid, don't go!" Dian wanted to prevent Jack from leaving, but it was too late because he had already gone far.

"Curtain!" Dian clicked his tongue.

"I'm sorry for his mistake, uncle. I'll pay for it."

Then Dian reached into his pocket and took out 2 pieces of paper money and gave it to the seller. After that, Dian went to look for his friend who did not clearly go where.

After a few minutes of searching, Dian finally found Jack was peeking at two lovers. Jack looked at them flatly, but there was a feeling of longing in his heart. After finding her, Dian immediately patted Jack on the shoulder.

"Hey, what are you doing here? You haven't paid for your lollipop..."

"...."

Jack shut up, ignore Dian. Dian came back annoyed like that, but was curious about what Jack saw.

"Whoever's lover? Why would Jack look at them in hiding like this?"

Dian previously had no idea what Jack was doing now became know. Dian tries to connect all the things about the reason why Jack peeked at the 2 lovers, but before finding his answer Jack turned to him with a down face.

"J-Jack.." - Dian, surprised to see Jack, turned in front of her.

Then what Jack did next really surprised Dian.

PLAQUE!!!!

Jack slapped himself in front of Dian. Jack's cheeks flushed the former hard slap with his hands. Jack's actions not only surprised Dian, but the couple were also surprised to hear the sound of the slap.

"What's that sound?!" Shouted the man while looking at where Jack and Dian were hiding.

The two of them were in a hidden place and only the two of them were in that place. Feeling stalked, the man walked over to where Jack was peeking.

"Nothing?" The man saw where Jack was peeking, but there was no one there at all.

***

"What are you doing exactly?!" Dian dragged Jack to run. They had already left the place after Jack had hit himself and when the man went to check. Almost got caught, Dian.

Jack did not answer and still lowered his head.

Dian was not offended by Jack's attitude, because today his attitude was really strange and not as usual.

When they are still away, they pause and catch their breath.

"I want to be strong." murmured Jack.

Dian of course heard Jack's words, being nearby.

"What do you mean?" Ask Dian who does not understand what Jack said.

Then Jack left again, and this time Dian knew where Jack was going. He went to the woods, where they were training.

Dian is confused and frustrated himself to see Jack's behavior that ends up following him. Without Dian noticing, there was something different in Jack's eyes. Jack's eyes are not just tired and sleepy eyes, but eyes full of ambition and dominance.
