The First High School Love

The First High School Love
Chapter 8 Grief of the House of Eyang

January, 2001

Aunty Dina's voice cried, making Matari wake up. That day, that day,

as he recalled, Sunday at the beginning of January is quite emotionally draining

the whole family at the House.

Matari sat on her bed. Brother and Sandra don't look anywhere. Him

looking at the alarm clock on her sister's desk which shows at half 7 am.

“Matari, let's help. Wear your white Muslim dress.”

Suddenly the Moon came in, still looking messy and undressing.

“Why, Brother?” ask Matari for confusion.

“Middle of the night, Om Budi drop. At dawn, Dad woke me up and Sandra

to accompany the newly arrived Aunt Dina from the Hospital. Om Budi is dead

before dawn in the Hospital. The corpse just came. Sandra is ready

fore. Lo toothbrush, ablution, wash your face, change the clothes of a white Muslim twin

same me. I'm going to the bathroom right now, that's why you're changing.”

Matari still looked confused. “But Brother, the Muslim dress is already narrow.”

The moon takes a breath. “OK, I'm looking for Muslim clothes. Now, lo

clean up in the bathroom. There is no time to shower. Sandra pity

out front alone. I have to go to the stall to buy aqua glasses. The mbok still

get ready behind.”

Matari came down from her bed staring at Sandra's still messy mattress.

“Still dumbfounded? Cepet!!!” exclaim Moon upset and pass out.

With the oversize white Muslim clothes belonging to Aunt Marini who was left behind,

Matari slowly approached Sandra.

His beloved cousin looked different than usual. His eyes

blank. He held onto a tissue that had been somehow used for

wiping his tears. Some people go by and greet Sandra.

With a slight hesitation, Matari approached towards Sandra.

“San, the stoic yes. Sorry I just woke up.” Matari whispered in

behind Sandra while stroking her shoulders.

Sandra just smiled thinly. His eyes are swollen and red.

“Lo temenin me yes, Ri. I don't know, Ri...” whispered Sandra trying hard.

Matari embraces her cousin and is unaware of her falling tears. When his Mother

died a few years ago, he wasn't this sad. Even on that day he

playing Barbie with Sandra in the master bedroom, where recently Om

You lie sick there. He was younger and not yet

understand.

But for some reason, today, the shadow of his mother when she died crossed

any more. And she was crying too. Either because I remembered the incident or it was

it's sad to see Sandra as she always is.

“Ri, so sorry ya.” Iko said as she approached towards Matari.

By then, the funeral was over. In the house of Eyang only relatives left

close, friends Om Budi and Aunt Dina who came later. Schoolmates

Sandra has also returned home, leaving friends close to Sandra who

most of the guys in his Scout gang.

Matari was a little happy when she saw that from afar Sandra had started to laugh a little

as a result of his friends' ridiculous jokes. He ended up just sitting on the other side

home while eating snacks.

“Why yes, our rich man is wrong what, yes, Ko?” ask Matari

Iko sat next to him.

“Why, Ri?” Iko took an aqua glass and drank it. “Untung

yes today it does not rain.”

“Lo lost brother, I nyokap, now Sandra lost her bokap.

Why yes? I don't think everyone feels that. Why just us-us

who felt the loss?”

“How can we make the gang know not?”

“What the hell, Ko? Sometimes I don't like to connect to you!”

“Loh, I still keep talking about you who was loh hahaha. We could

make gangs of people who lost loved ones. Later

members lo, me, Mama, Papa, a big family lo, uh Mbok Kalis too

“While is also why I laugh. Not funny though.”

“Btw, lo many families also yes. I was told Mama was confused.

Her name is Kak Tiwi beautiful yaaa, rich Dian Sastro.”

“Hah, who the hell?”

“New movie artist out. The film is called Falling Star.”

Of course for Matari it's natural that she doesn't know. Because at that time, in the 2000s, Dian Sastrowardoyo was not as famous as it is now. He has just made his debut in an indie film. Not yet signed into Box Office.

“Not knowing me. Never seen a movie. The adventures of Sherina

I watched his pirated vcd aja.”

“Ya already, sometime we watch together yes if there is a good movie.”

The deg! Matari's heart was racing again. Asked watch? By Iko?

“Kok BENGONG?”

“Gue has never seen a movie. What a great village am I?”

“Ngaklah. Naturally, you are still Junior High. So later we will find a movie whose rating you can watch.”

Although tomorrow is Monday, the first day of recitation in memory of Om Budi in the house of Eyang is visible

pretty crowded. Aunt Dina is still in the room, accompanied by Sandra and Aunt Marini while carrying a book of jasin. Invisible tasbih separated from his long fingers.

Matari was helping the Moon and Kak Tiwi was delivering tea drinks

warmly in each study participants dominated by the Fathers

complex. Among them are tucking Iko and his Papa. Aunt Indira helped

by accompanying the Princess who still looks shocked and dwells also in the

her room.

“Lan, are you single?” kak Tiwi's voice half whispered. Banjarmasin Logatnya looks thick combined with non-standard Indonesian.

“Again. Why the hell?” ask the Moon wonder.

“Trus which is your boyfriend? Not coming?” ask Tiwi again.

“Again. Don't come by. Later digenitin same lo.”

“Dih, am I a girl what? I was curious. Miss paskibra in 2001

what's this rich guy?” timpal Tiwi while smiling. Then turn to look towards Matari, looking for a new victim. “You're kalo, Ri?”

“Ihhh, please. His girlfriend Matari is with his father. Her mom is cute

really nemenin Eyang in room.”

“Oh, aunty whose house is so big that yes?”

“Dad, it's Matari's boyfriend, satisfied lo?”

“Bulaaaan, sick tau! I'm just muji. Your eyes are so great to be able to get

gituan.”

Matari smiled shyly, then looked at Iko. Iko returned her smile

sincerely. The butterfly danced back to her stomach.

When Matari arrived home on Monday after school, Sandra was seen

sleeping next to his mother. Aunt Dina was still sad and slept in her room continuously.

Anyang too. The house looks so quiet. Everyone is still grieving the loss of Om Budi.

Kak Bulan, as usual, returned with his Paskibrakanya activities. Mbok Kalis looks

back to doing his activities. One of them is by giving food to koi fish. The house of Eyang had returned deserted unlike yesterday-yesterday.

The family of Aunt Marini and Om Wiryo, the 3rd and 4th sisters of Matari's father, are back

to town early this morning by plane. Matari's father took a leave of absence and was busy helping out

taking care of the death certificate in Mr. RT, because Aunt Dina is still not able to take care of it alone.

Mbok Kalis said, this morning until noon there are still mourners who

overtake come. Some have friends Om Budi and Aunt Dina.

Suddenly the phone rings. After a few times, Matari

hoisted it.

“Halo, assalamualaikum.”

“Walaikumsalam, hi. Busy again?” the wet raspy voice was direct

recognised him.

“Hai, Dav.”

“Gue is sorry, Matari. Sorry I didn't go yesterday

lo. Because the richness lo again busy really.”

“Oh, you came yesterday?”

“Iya. Same with Abdi and Lisa.”

“Hmm, how can I not see?”

“Iya. You're busy next to your cousin. Say hello to him yes.”

“Iya, thanks.”

“He is still sad yes, surely?”

“Iya. Maybe his family is ready, because I'm ready

pain length. Only now may my aunt begin to feel lonely because she was abandoned forever. People say, you feel more sad when all the mourners have left and the house is back quiet.”

Davi fell silent.

“Sorry, sorry yes. I said yes, hahaha.”.

Matari finds it strange to share that feeling of loss with Davi, who may not understand the feeling.

“Gue to apologize, Ri. I don't know what it's like. I am too

don't know what to say to you. That's why I didn't do it yesterday

lo same. Not because you are busy.”

Matari smiled with relief even though she knew, Davi would not see her.

“Ri, said Abdi, lo kalo Wednesday, Thursday, Friday exkul ya?”

“Eh…. Ja. Your informant abdi?”

“Kless more. Because of you I am blind at all.”

“Ngak...”

“Matari, if I call gini someone is angry?”

“There...”.

“Who?”

“My one. She likes sprains if I make phone long-time.”

“HAHAHAHA. Oh my goodness, MATARI! I guessaa..”.

Matari looked confused. “Gue seriously.”

Davi is still laughing. For Matari, nothing is funny.

“Eh yes, I've seen you like a guy. Lo guy?”

Matari. He thought for a moment.

“Not. And not yet.”

“Kok yet?”

“Crazy lo. He's a High School boy. I could get angry dong. My neighbor
