To commemorate the tragedy, a museum was built called the Aceh Tsunami Museum, which was inaugurated on February 27, 2009 by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Built on an area of 2,500 square meters, this museum was designed by Ridwan Kamil as the former mayor of Bandung who won the competition. The competition was organized by the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency on August 17, 2007.

Getting to the Aceh Tsunami Museum is easy. As the name implies, this museum is located in the center of Banda Aceh city precisely on Jalan Sultan Iskandar Muda, adjacent to Blang Padang Square and about 400 meters from Baiturrahman Banda Aceh Grand Mosque.
The contents of the Aceh Tsunami Museum building consist of four floors and has several collections that discuss the tsunami incident, namely with a total collection of 55 units consisting of 22 props, 26 photos, and 7 mockups.
On the ground floor of the museum there is an open space that can be used as a public space. When entering this museum, the first room that visitors will visit is the devotional room.

After passing through the devotional room, visitors will enter a glass room called “Memorial hill” with a monitor that can be used to access information about tsunami events.
After passing through the memorial hill room, visitors will enter the room “The Light of God”, a cylindrical well-shaped room that shines light. At the top of the room look Arabic calligraphy inscribed ALLAH.
