Not one day in the village of Janggala Sukma, Mbah Bengkut has introduced many things to Yati and Iwan. The two of them did not find anything strange in the village. The behavior of Mbah Bengkut, known as the traditional leader, is also still fairly normal and not strange. Even Mbah Bengkut was being very kind to the two of them. Iwan and Yati now turn to suspect Mr. Bandri and Hermanto. Because everything they say doesn't fit in at all with what's going on in this place. The residents also do activities that seem ordinary.
In the afternoon, the residents returned from the garden. Some who had paddy fields, also came home from their rice fields. There is absolutely nothing strange, other than the customs that exist in that place. For Iwan and Yati, it is still arguably normal and not excessive. While chatting with Mbah Brengkut, Yati ventured to ask about how the actual residents in this village.
"Sorry Mbah. Not that I meant to be presumptuous. I want to ask you something." Say Yati to Mbah Bengkut.
"Please Ngger."
"Is it true that in this village there are indigenous groups? To be honest, I still doubt what Hermanto said to both of us."
Yati's remark made Iwan surprised, because it was a sensitive thing to ask. Supposedly, Yati and Iwan did not need to ask anything, in accordance with what Mr. Bandri ordered to them. However, Mbah Bengkut responded to Yati's question very wisely. Even Mbah Bengkut answered him very politely.
"Look Ngger. In this village, everyone still holds fast to the ancestral customs. We're Kejawen's people. So don't be surprised if we do something that might make you uncomfortable. When it comes to indigenous groups mentioned by Mas Manto, it is true. We set up a society, so that we wouldn't be easily divided." Answer Mbah Bengkut.
"Yes Mbah. I-i understand. But, am I really allowed to join Mbah Bengkut? I and Iwan are people from the city. Surely, many villagers do not like us. Because we're both strangers in this place."
"Laaah... Yeah, don't be so ngger. We would all welcome anyone who enters this village. Originally, that person was also well-intentioned. After all, we're all basically the same. Equally ordinary people. Do not just because of a difference, then we feel like we are isolated. Think of this Sukma Janggala Village like your own birthplace. Which you must take good care of."
"The Mbah." Answer Yati and Iwan.
They both became increasingly doubtful to Mr. Bandri and Hermanto. There really isn't a single strange thing in this place. What they say is not true at all. Especially if it is related to the murder case that occurred to Bagas Mantari. That sounds strange to them for now. Stranger than the customs in this place. However, Mr. Bandri is also never wrong in giving his opinion. Iwan and Yati have already faced people who pretend to be good in front, but very evil in the back. And they survived because they followed the advice of Mr. Bandri.
But somehow, their doubts to Mr. Bandri became even greater. They find it hard to believe what Bandri said. Coupled with Mr. Bandri who has the higher-ups of the elite, who are not known by Iwan and Yati. In that confusion and confusion, Mbah Bengkut seemed to understand what was inside the heads of the two of them. Mbah Bengkut said, anyone can believe, and it does not matter if they do not believe what Mbah Bengkut said. Mbah Bengkut does not force anyone to believe in him. Mbah Bengkut also advised the two of them,
"Sometimes, what we think is real, is not all real. There are many things we cannot explain in this world. Many people think we are strange people, primitive people, backward people, and exiled people. But we never answered their words. We just want to preserve the customs that our ancestors have built." Mbah Bengkut.
"I'm sorry Mbah. I have been presumptuous to give such a question to Mbah Bengkut. But, I have no intention of insulting the trust that Mbah Bengkut has professed."
"Mboten nopo Ngger. That's common. Same with Mas Manto, he also did not believe what Mbah said. But, now he was already the favorite disciple of Mbah." Answer Mbah Bengkut.
It was only here that Yati and Iwan began to suspect something. Hermanto said he was just a cult member. However, Mbah Bengkut said that Hermanto was his favorite student. I don't know who they both believe. But, whatever was going to happen in this place, they both had to be prepared to deal with it. What they had only suspected Hermanto and Mr. Bandri, now they also suspected Mbah Bengkut. Their feelings are really mixed. They can't concentrate as usual. Their minds seemed to have split, and it was very difficult to trust the people they had previously trusted. Even Mr. Bandri who had taken care of them had been suspected, and they had doubted.
"Yes wis. Mbah wants to rest first. It's already night. You also rest in your rooms, each of you, Ngger." Said Mbah Bengkut who then went into his room.
Not felt, their chat turned out to last until night. In fact, Yati and Iwan had forgotten that they had not eaten anything at all in this place. This is where the weird stuff starts to feel.
"You thirsty?" Ask Yati.
"No. I only drink one glass. But until now no longer feel thirst."
"You knew? I haven't even tasted this water a single drop." Iwan said by holding the teapot in front of him. And only Iwan drank in this place, after a full day he did not drink a drop of water.
"Yes already. I'm going to go into the room. I'm gonna take a break. I'm tired." Say Yati who then passed to the room that had been reserved for her.
Iwan still could not give any opinion about this place. He was really confused, and didn't know what to do. There was nothing he had brought to this place, other than his clothes, which he had not taken out of the bag. Iwan does not even have stationery, because it is prohibited in the Village Janggala Sukma. Not knowing what he was going to do, Iwan finally came out of the house, after he remembered, if he kept a pack of cigarettes and also a match in his pocket. Iwan smoked his cigarette slowly, while enjoying the night atmosphere in the village. At first everything went well. Until he felt heavy on his back. It was like something was on top of his body.
Quickly he went back into the house Mbah Bengkut. Not to forget Iwan also closed the door of the simple house. Then he went straight into the room that had been provided for him by Mbah Bengkut. So afraid, Iwan forgot, if the bag is still in the living room. Other strange things began to appear. The wooden bed he used to lay himself down, suddenly creaked. Iwan did not move at all. Out of curiosity, Iwan ventured to see what was under the bed. Slowly, Iwan began to notice what was under the bed, which made the bed sway.
But after looking under the bed, Iwan saw absolutely nothing. But suddenly, after he lay back down, Iwan saw a jet-black figure was right above his face, with his mouth gaping. Iwan did not know for sure what figure it was. Iwan could only keep quiet, without being able to do anything. Even his mouth felt locked, so he could not scream for help to Yati or Mbah Bengkut. Because it was too late to be afraid, Iwan finally fainted. He was really frightened to see the black figure that was right above his body, which was like hanging on the roof of the house.
