"What do you mean, Kang? Seriously what?" ask Mr. Kades who suddenly was behind Dara.
"You must remember, Jaka! Our social class is so different! Dara I will never allow to marry, with a shepherd like you!"
"You are you, he said Kades but you speak like an uneducated man, just like Kang Carik! Our people live in modern times like this really, your mind is still feudal, use the term social class all! Not only do you use the term caste as in the days of the kingdom!" reprimand Professor Hartadi with a slight raise of voice, on his junior sister's level during college first.
Getting such a reprimand in front of the princess and the young man she hated, made Mr. Kades's face crimson withstanding shame.
"Sit here first" Professor Hartadi said, as the host did, pointing to an empty bench next to him.
Mr. Kades obediently, he then sat down beside Professor Hartadi.
"Bara. Sit down, Nduk," the authoritative man told Dara.
Mr. Kades' daughter then sat beside Jaka because it was the only bench still available, making Mr. Kades immediately stand.
"Become! You take a seat inside! he told the princess.
"No need, Dara. Keep sitting there," forbid Professor Hartadi, making Mr. Kades immediately turn to the guest.
"Sit down, Dik Gondo. There are more important things that I will talk about, than just discussing the matter of seating," asked Professor Hartadi, by lowering his voice.
Mr. Kades was obedient again, like a buffalo shuffled by his nose. He then sat back down next to Professor Hartadi.
Yes, from a long time ago, Mr. Kades and Mr. Carik have always been disinclined by Professor Hartadi because of his intelligence and wisdom.
"Sir, did you say that you would never allow your daughter to marry a shepherd?" professor Hartadi asked to confirm what he had heard.
Mr. Kades nodded for sure. "Yes, Kang."
"Yes, Brother. I agree with you," said Professor Hartadi, who made Dara immediately protest.
"Pakdhe, but Mas Ja ...."
Professor Hartadi gestured through the hand, cutting off Dara's speech.
"I'm right, aren't I, Kang?" Mr. Kades smiled proudly. "Where to try, parents who willingly give up their only daughter to be invited to live suffer, the same poor young man as Jaka!" he continued tightly, glancing sharply at the bowed Jaka.
Jaka speechless. The young man was still unable to dive into the mind of the professor. Meanwhile, Dara, glanced at Jaka with an unpleasant feeling because the father continued to insult his lover.
'Pardon my father, Mas,' Dara's inner self with a grievous heart.
Silent, momentarily greeting. Professor Hartadi took his coffee cup and sipped the warmed coffee, slowly.
"I disagree, too, if Dara is married to a sheepherder as you said, Sister." Professor Hartadi unravels the silence.
Jaka is getting deeper. The young man closed his eyes, trying to master his emotions.
"Because I'm going to match Dara with my adopted daughter. I'm sure, Dik Gondo would definitely agree," continued the bespectacled man.
"Lifting child? Kang Har has a foster child? Since when?" fawning Mr. Kades.
"Don't joke, Kang! Since when did Kang Har know him! After all, he is a young man who is just a graduate of SMU, Kang!"
Professor Hartadi. "I'm not kidding and I've never messed around with what I said, Mom!" professor Hartadi.
"So indeed SMU graduates, just like all of us because of the rules in our country, will never be able to go to college if you do not have an SMU diploma or equivalent to that," continue the middle-aged man.
"And just so you know, Dik Gondo. Jaka is an exemplary student at our campus. Right now, he's become the assistant of some lecturer." Professor Hartadi still continues to explain Jaka's many achievements on his campus.
While Mr. Gondo who heard the information from Professor Hartadi about Jaka, was stunned. The thick-bodied man until gawking.
Similarly, Dara, the sweet girl was surprised when she heard that Jaka turned out to be an assistant lecturer. As for other achievements, Dara was not so surprised because Jaka's lover knew exactly that the young man he loved was smart and accomplished.
"Mas Jaka why don't you ever tell Dara the same story?" whispered Dara, protest.
Jaka smile. "Because of the new assistant, brother. The plan, mas will tell you that mas has become a permanent lecturer," replied Jaka, who also whispered.
Dara smiled proudly, looking at the young man of his heart. Likewise with Jaka, the young man looked fondly at the lover and forgot the two old men who were in front of them both.
"Grad ...." Professor Hartadi's demented voice, unraveling Jaka's friendly gaze towards the lover.
"How about, Dik Gondo. Is the proposal for my adopted son to your daughter, accepted?" professor Hartadi asked, parsing Mr. Kades' daydreams.
"Of course we accept, Kang," said Ms. Rosmah from behind the door, quickly. Apparently, Mr. Kades' wife eavesdropped on the conversation on the terrace.
"From a long time ago, I had agreed that Dara with Jaka, but his father Dara who continued to oppose!" added Ms. Rosmah who then stood next to her husband.
Dara smiled broadly, looking at the mother. Yes, her graceful mother was indeed always on his side.
Mr. Kades is silent.
"How about, Dik Gondo?" professor Hartadi asked.
"Thankfully, you're willing to marry them straight away. Let Jaka can invite your daughter to Umrah next month," continued the lecturer Jaka.
Mr. Gondo looked even more, his gaze to Professor Hartadi showing that the village chief did not believe what he had just heard.
"Yes, Brother. Jaka managed to make the name of our campus on the Asian level and the campus gave him a gift of umrah tickets for two people" explained Professor Hartadi.
Miss Rosmah nodded. The graceful woman was increasingly proud of Jaka, but in contrast to the husband who seemed still reluctant to accept the simple young man.
"Yes, I've." Professor Hartadi then moved on. "If this proposal is not accepted, then Jaka will be paired with Ning Santri, the daughter of his Pak Kyai who also loves Jaka.
Jaka was stunned, the young man did not believe if it turned out that the professor also knew the news that was circulating in the campus.
While Dara directly looked at Jaka, with a demanding gaze answered.
