Salsabila Putri (Choosing the Hijrah Road)
The Story of Khadijah bint Khuwailid the Wife of Prophet Muhammad SAW

She was named Khadijah, her full name was Khadijah bint Khuwailid bin Asad bin Abdul Uzza bin Qushai, she was from the ruling class in Mecca. Khadijah al-Kubra had a father named Khuwailid bin Asad and his mother named Fatimah bint Za’idah, he came from the tribe of Banu Asad from the tribe of Quraysh.

One day, while still early in the morning, Khadijah happily went to the house of his cousin, Waraqah bin Naufal. Khadijah says.

“Last night I had a really amazing dream. I saw the sun swirling over Mecca, then descending towards the earth. It is getting closer and closer. I kept watching him to see where he was going down. He came down and entered my house. His extremely majestic light stunned me. Then I woke up from my sleep”.

Then Waraqah said,

“I tell you glad tidings, that a great and noble man will come to ask you. It has an important position and fame that is increasing day by day”.

Not long after that Khadijah was destined to be the wife of Prophet Muhammad.

Marriage of Muhammad and Khadijah

When the Prophet Muhammad was young and known as a straight and honest young man so Muhammad got the nickname “Al-Amin”, it has been allowed to participate in selling merchandise belonging to Khadija. The thing that attracted Khadijah more attention was the glory of the soul of Prophet Muhammad.

What is interesting about the marriage between the Prophet Muhammad and Khadijah is that Khadijah first applied to ask for His hand, whereas at that time the Arab nation of Jahiliyah had a custom, and, abstinence for a woman to propose a man and all that happened with the efforts of a third person, namely the Nafisah Binti Munyah and the desirability made through Muhammad's uncle, Abu Talib.

Khadijah's immediate family did not approve of the wedding plans. But Khadijah was attracted by His honesty, cleanliness and special qualities, so that he did not glorify all criticism and condemnation from his family and relatives.

Khadijah was also an intelligent woman, regarding her interest in the Prophet Muhammad she said,

“If all the pleasures of life are given to me, the world and the dominions of the kings of Persia and Rome are given to me, but I do not live with you, then they are worth nothing to me than the wings of a mosquito

Khadijah married Prophet Muhammad when he was 40 years old, while Prophet Muhammad is 25 years old. Some say it was not 40 years old, only slightly older than the Prophet Muhammad. Khadijah was a rich and famous woman.

Khadijah can live a luxurious life with his own property. Despite his wealth, Khadija felt lonely living alone without a husband, because her first husband and both had died. However, some sources deny that Khadijah was married before meeting the Prophet Muhammad.

When the angel came down with the revelation to Muhammad, Khadijah was the first to acknowledge the prophethood of her husband, and the first woman to convert to Islam, so he included as-Sabiqun al-Awwalun (the first person to embrace Islam). Throughout his life with the Prophet, Khadijah was so faithful to accompany him in every event of both joy and sorrow.

Every time her husband went to Hira’ Cave, Khadija must have prepared all the supplies and needs of her husband. Had her husband not been home for a long time, Khadija would have looked to ensure the safety of the Prophet Muhammad. If Prophet Muhammad was solemn, Khadijah stayed at home patiently until he returned home.

When her husband complained of distress and was in a state of anxiety, she tried as hard as possible to calm and comfort, so that her husband really felt calm. Every threat and persecution they faced together. Then Allah gave him 3 children, they were Qasim, Abdullah, and Fatimah.

Khadijah is a sholeh woman, she is very devoted to her husband. For example, in many of her husband's private activities, Khadija was certainly always with the prophet Muhammad and helped him, apparently providing water for her husband's ablution. So it is very reasonable if in one of the words of Prophet Muhammad, it is mentioned the privilege of Khadijah, which is,

“When everyone drove me away and stayed away from me, he believed in me. When everyone belied me, he believed in my honesty. When everyone set me aside, he handed over all his wealth to me.”

Khadijah died at the age of 64 years and 6 months.he was the wife of the prophet Muhammad for 24 years, lived with the prophet Muhammad, accompanied him in joy and sorrow.
