My Lovely Driver's

My Lovely Driver's
11

Nata enters the house in a hurry after Radit passes.

Never ask her to stop by, even the woman forgot how to thank others for help. There was something more important that he wanted to finish.

“Loh, Where's the Radit?”

Retno washed her hands and removed the apron tied around her neck. He stepped closer to Nata to the living room.

“He's home. There's affair”

“So, can't be here tonight?” Nata even forgot to deliver the dinner invitation in person. He tried to catch his breath. Hope to keep speaking softly, whatever will appear after this.

“Bu, what mom said to Lukman before he left, two years ago?” Nata stretched his legs, stretched his two muscles, then rubbed his face slowly.

Retno was surprised to hear the one name Nata mentioned.

“Why do you suddenly remember him again?” Retno took a position right next to her daughter sitting down.

“I met him!”

“He's in this city? Is he the one who came to see you?”

Nata raised one corner of his lips while closing both hands, hoping to close the gap that could have made the pressure of his words rise.

“Mother rest easy, she kept her promise. Lukman just moved to work, and I went to the TV station where he worked. He wasn't trying to see me at all. As you asked, right?”

Nata smiled softly and closed his eyes for a moment. Silence took a while between the two.

“Sorry.. I'm doing this for your own good, son.”

Retno rubbed her daughter's shoulders slowly.

“By giving false hope to him? Is there no other way?”

Nata held back her tear glands from working. He will not be able to be angry with mothers who have given birth and raised yes with all love. But hiding what she needs to know, Nata is disappointed.

“Bu, he is working desperately to meet the requirements of mother..! He stayed away from me, letting me be so bad at him. To fulfill mother's request. While mom didn't tell me anything..! Mom is just like playing him!”

Finally shed those tears, one. Retno silently watched Nata in grief, her beloved daughter was very rarely crying. It was only when Dion found out he had an affair and when his father was sentenced to cancer that the rest of Retno never found his daughter shedding tears.

Then Retno remembered that night - two years ago-

The mother knew that her daughter harbored a feeling for Lukman even in the first minute she watched the two embrace.

But letting his daughter fall in love with the son of his own driver, Retno is certainly difficult to be heartened.

Actually, that's not all. An arranged marriage with his best friend's child, is the biggest dream he hopes to be real, in addition to the recovery of the husband.

He was sure his best friend would be a good in-law for Nata. And Radit is the criterion of the ideal husband; handsome, kind, rich, blameless.

It's ridiculous that Nata has to put Radit aside for a man who doesn't know his future.

Maybe it will be different story if Retno has not met Sukma. But being able to rediscover his best friend, Retno did not want to waste this opportunity.

“Do you love my son?”

Retno's interrogation that night to Lukman. It took a while until he realized the purpose of Retno's question, until he finally dared to nod.

“Sorry to love mom“'s son

Lukman imagined that his father might have been in the same situation as this. Not daring to uphold his entire body with confidence.

"I don't intend to derail the dream of a family mother, but the matter of fate doesn't anyone know?" The man tried to gather his pieces of courage.

"So you hope this matchmaking fails?"

Lukman chose silence, not wanting to undermine his first judgment for her; from a mother of the woman he loved.

"I don't want to prolong the problem, Lukman. Please listen to me well"

Retno got up from her seat on the porch, turning to the inside of the translucent house to the living room. He just wanted to make sure that Nata was still asleep, then returned to his original place.

"Look.. To cancel my intention to match Nata, it seems impossible. But just like you, I also believe in destiny. No one knows who my son really is. You are there with your own efforts to pursue your destiny, I am here with my efforts to strive for the destiny of my hope; for Nata.

But I ask that for these three years you never approach our daughter first. If you are her destiny, no matter how hard I force Nata this matchmaking will still not end the marriage.

These three years I will try Nata with the candidates I have. If after that Nata does not find his soul mate, I sincerely give it up for you. But if before that time he chose another man, then don't blame me. That means it's his own choice.

My only request is one, stay away from Nata for three years!"

Retno looked serious with the time she set. But Lukman considers the time as long as it does not make sense. It was just a way to knock him out indirectly.

"But... Three years?"

"OKAY. Listen to my explanation first. Or you won't have a chance at all to be heard"

Hearing the intimidation, Lukman held back the word he was about to issue.

"Thank you, the three years I gave you were a time for you to be steadfast in your relationship with my son. Yep... Although I do not expect to have a rich daughter-in-law, at least have a regular job so that you can support my child properly... Don't follow in the footsteps of your father who's just a driver...."

Finally Lukman listened to the words he had been expecting a long time ago, reality that sounded painful.

"This I do for the good of our daughter. You don't need to worry, Nata and I will not be able to pretend to be sick let alone threaten suicide so that Nata wants to marry the man.

Let these three years be mine. If we fail, then come back with a more appropriate situation.. Oiya one more. Please don't complicate my relationship with your father, he's been with us for 5 years without any problems. Don't let this make your father lose his livelihood.."

The threat, Retno deliberately placed at the end to fulfill his warning.

Lukman lost his power, he doesn't want to argue anything anymore. The woman before him had even broken all of his rejections long before they were thrown. All he thought about was how he could see Nata last time.

"I accept this challenge. I will prove I am capable. If Nata was made from my ribs, he would not be a match for anyone but me. And even if you don't have a mother, I understand what you're doing is a form of a mother's love for her child.."

Lukman still trying to leave good memories to Retno, even though it has been thrown all his love.

"We can keep my promise regarding the deadline, as long as you also keep the promise not to establish communication with my child for three years"

He knows Lukman is a good guy but to take it with his chest, Retno has not been able to.

"Mom, may I transfer Nata to her room, pity that she's asleep out there.. Because I know he's still tired of walking, and there seems to be no one here to call for help moving him to the bed"

Lukman chose a very deceptive sentence, for the woman to accept her request. Retno thought how long until finally nodding his head. He knows his daughter's sleep habits are very impossible to wake up if just fell asleep. That guy won't be able to keep her awake.

"Come in.."

Lukman could finally let out a long sigh, after a long series of sentences the woman clenched her chest. At least he can still see the figure as the antidote to all the hurtful speech earlier.

He stepped inside, looking at Nata for the last time. Retno watched from behind, as Lukman moved the small body into the grip of both hands. Then the man stepped into one of Retno's designated rooms.

Lukman looked at the woman in his clingy hands, as if he did not want to part. Then whisper slowly.

'I really love you. You don't love anyone anymore. Wait for me, come back..'
