“Deveny De Kaflier,” Said a guy in his neat army outfit. He gave me a small map in dark green.
“What's with Captain Dev?” The girl in front of him asked curiously, she opened the map.
Lots of photos there. The photos are arranged but still look confusing. Photo of a man's corpse in shabby clothes, photo of a scrawled wall, photo of newspaper exposed to blood, and a photo of a landmine.
“What's up? Why Captain Dev? Why do you call it?” The girl did not understand, she researched the inch of the photo, nil, she still did not understand.
“Captain Dev is taken hostage.”
The girl dropped the dark green map she was holding. His eyes warmed up, and his body trembled.
“What?” He mumbled in disbelief. Trying to convince him that his hearing was wrong. But the guy said the same thing, stayed the same.
“WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!”
🌵
Davila gives the girl in front of her a cup of coffee. Caramel Macchiato's. Davila sat down on the chair, sipping a soft drink that he brought while facing the sky. His shady gaze involuntarily collided with the gaze of the girl beside him.
“Can I call you Grace?” Davila arrived. Kay looked.
“What?”
“Kaylina Grace, can I call you Grace?” Davila asked as she sipped her coffee. Kay nodded.
“Sure,”
“Graciliya De Gavellyn's. Now that's your name,” Davila said slowly, she was engrossed in looking up at the sky.
“Terserah, Mr. Davila who is a forger,” Sahut Grace quipped, but Davila did not care.
He sipped his coffee again.
“I used to be a soldier,” Mumbled Davila, he bowed his head, stared at his feet, a cup of coffee, and the floor.
Grace looked surprised, her eyes round.
“Sounds cool, why did you stop?” Asked Grace enthusiastically, she ate the cake on the edge of her cup.
“I..—”
“Channel 3, Captain Dev, please reply, replace.” The girl pressed a button on the communication device. He sighed in frustration because again he did not get a reply. Connection interrupted.
“Wolf, please reply, how are things? Replace,”
Some time later, the walkie talkie began to react, there was a reply.
“Here are Wolves, safe situation. The mine has been installed, it will explode in 10 minutes. We're still looking for Hostages. Replace.” Replies from one of the team. The girl could breathe a sigh of relief.
🌵
“I'm hungry.” The girl with short hair complained, she gulped down a bottle of mineral water nearby.
The tech!
“Fortunately you guys, I have 3 ramyun.” A Blonde-haired man said, he cleared his throat slowly.
“Gosh! Ahjussi!” The girl screeched happily, hugging the guy. The Blonde-haired guy grinned at the brown-haired guy in front of him. Stare implying ‘I win’.
“I'm not Ahjussi! Call me Captain Dav,” Kekeh that guy, the girl in front of him moves his hand no matter what.
“Captain Dev will make Ramyun for us soon,” The girl handed over 3 packs of Ramyun to the brunettes, right in front of her belly.
“Gamsahabnida, kaebtin!” (Thank you, captain!) The girl continued with her grin.
“Ya!” (Hey!) The brown-haired man was about to protest, just as he opened his mouth, the girl in front of him interrupted.
“Naneun geojeol-eul bad-adeul-iji anhseubnida. seoduleu yes! baega gopayo!” (i don't accept rejection. let's hurry! i'm hungry!)
🌵
“Mie this is so delicious, I have no regrets about having Captain Dev cook.” The girl said without sin, she scolded while putting Ramyun in her mouth.
Captain Dev looked at him in annoyance.
“Ya—”
“Naega hangug-e dochaghamyeon neohuideul-eul sojulo daehal geos-ida. a, soalso geuliwo eonje dol-a olkka?” (when I get to Korea later, I will treat you soju. ah, I miss soju, when will we come back?) The girl held her cheek with her right hand. Imagining Soju.
“You're not good at drinking.” The Blonde-haired man said, swallowing the Kimchi he had just entered.
“Ali jung hanaga jug-eumyeon nameojineun gundaeleul tteonal su eobbsdago yagsoghabsida. ihaehabnikka?” (let's make a promise, if one of us dies, then the rest should not leave the military.understand?) The girl said, raising her little finger.
The two guys in front of him stared at each other, before raising their pinkies.
“Nde.” (Yes)
🌵
“Jadi—”
“I broke it. I know it's bad. But I can't stand.” Cut Davila off, he turned to the confused looking Grace.
“Kim Soo Hyun died that night. No one would have expected that stupid girl to take the choice to sacrifice her life.” Davila sipped her coffee.
“Kim Soo Hyun and Deveny are brothers.” Davila is still laughing. Every moment the three of them played like old tapes.
“I'm out of the military. Deveny is equally disappointed, he feels guilty when no one blames him,”
“Kim who chose to sacrifice.”
Dor!! Dor!! The sound of firearms rang out loud in the old warehouse. One Special Team member broke down the door while shooting the captors.
As Kim approached, he opened a chain wrapped around Captain Dev.
“Palli,i chang-goneun 5 bun an-e pogbal thing geos-ida.” (Let's hurry, this warehouse will explode in 5 minutes.) Kim said as he called Captain Dev.
“yeojeonhi han myeong-ui gospel nolaega issseubnida. geuneun yeogie issseubnida. geuleul ppalli gu haejuseyo!” (there's still one more hostage, he's near here. hurry up and save him!) Captain Dev said, he pointed to one of the rooms.
“i chang-goneun 5 bun an-e pogbal things geos-ibnida!” (this warehouse will explode in 5 minutes!) Kim chuckled in disbelief, he handed Captain Dev over to 2 others.
“geuleom seodulleoya haeyo!” (Then we have to be fast!)
Kim looked at Captain Dev in disbelief. He gave orders to his team.
DOR!!
The bodies of the 4 criminals were scattered. Blood poured from his body. Kim walks quickly to his hostage, he takes off the chains that bind the Hostage, and hands them over to his Team members.
“Palli!” (Quick!) his orders.
They walk to the helicopter, pick up the suffocated Hostages. Captain Dev raised his hand, waving at Kim.
“gamsahabnida! wine-eul junbihagessseubnida!”( Thanks you! I'll prepare Wine!) Dev exclaimed in delight, pulling Kim's hand quickly.
Kim hugged Captain Dev.
“hamjang debeu! gimjung-wi! josimhae!” (Captain Dev! Lieutenant Kim! Watch it!) Strangled one of the soldiers.
DOR'S! DOR'S! DOR'S!
Three bullets hit Kim's body. He smiled as he pulled on Dev's shirt, holding him back from falling.
Captain Dev looked at Kim in shock. His legs were squeezed, and tears flowed from his lips. He pulled Kim, hugged her tightly.
Gunfire continues. The long-range shooting soldiers are preparing.
“jamkkanman! babo! nae mal deullyeo?!” (hold on, hey! you moron! did you hear me?!) Dev screeches. His voice sounds sad. Kim smiled wryly, sweet.
“ige nae majimag miso ya naega aleumdab ni? a, naneun dangsin-ege nae insaeng-eul jueossda. jal jinaeyo, daejang seonjang...” (this is my last smile. Am I pretty? ahh, I've given my life to you. live well yes, Captain Deveny.) Og Kim endured the pain, a slow drip that differed an octave from the wind.
“museun soli huh? dangsin - eun jugji anh - eul geos - ibnida! yep! gimjung-wi! dangsin - eun eotteohge saeng - gaghaseyo?!” (what are you talking about?! you will not die! oye! Lieutenant Kim! what are you thinking?!) Dev screeched furiously.
Nahash. Kim could only smile and wave. Kim is no longer saved.
🌵
Davila and Captain Dev are silent in front of Kim's coffin. Their eyes were empty full of disappointment.
Davila stepped up, she gave him a bouquet of black roses, and she placed a bottle of Wine next to the chest.
“Stupid girl. Happy resting.” Davila muttered, Captain Dev raised one corner of his lips.
“Even he hasn't tasted that wine.” Captain Dev smiled, a smile of utter clairvoyance full of wounds.
“Dev, sorry. I'll be out of the military.”
And after that, the world seemed to collapse a place on Captain Dev's head.
