Dylan sat down next to his wife, clasping tightly onto his paler hand which now looked paler. Mayleen sits opposite her two children, with Mirna by her side.
There were two sheets of dark brown envelopes, on the counter that blocked between them.
Mayleen takes a deep breath, preparing herself to uncover the old past she's harboring.
"Jumi, how do you know that Dylan is your brother, son?" ask Mayleen gently.
Juminten took his hands off her husband's grasp, opened a small sling bag, took out a shabby envelope from inside.
"It's Ma." Juminten thrust the object at her in-laws.
Mayleen smiled bitterly, received the shabby envelope from, rubbed it with a trembling heart.
"It's apparently."
"Yes Ma, I'm sorry that Juminten is sassy."
"It's okay, son, maybe it's a sign from God, it's time Mama told me everything."
Dylan clasped his wife's hand again, gently rubbing Juminten's back. Trying to calm down even if he himself is not in good shape.
"Juminten, you are indeed the son of my late husband, Dawei. The son of his first wife, Anastasia, the most beloved woman," Mayleen's voice rang out.
"So Dylan and I were brothers" Juminten said.
Juminten's clear eyes reddened, looking at Mayleen disappointedly.
"Let's finish the story first." Dylan gently rubbed Juminten's back.
"Sorry," said the beautiful mummy. Mayleen smiled slightly.
Juminten's heart ached, even though he had read it in a letter, but still it hurt when he heard it directly. Juminten looked at Mirna, the woman who had cared for him since childhood, looking down. His body seemed to shake violently, hands filled with wrinkles, occasionally wiping away the tears that drenched his cheeks.
Juminten looked back down, squeezing the burly fingers that were clinging to him. Dylan felt the same way as his wife, but the narrow-eyed man tried to calm down. Even though his mind started to shake.
There's a lot they want to ask. However, they chose silence, and heard Mayleen.
The middle-aged woman's eyes, looked far away. As if looking far back into the past.
"Me and Dawei are married because of an arranged marriage, we both have the responsibility to carry on our family descendants with a predetermined choice. But, Dawei has a much loved one, Anastasia. They met while in college, their relationship was not sanctioned by their parents.
Hem ... Your father's a desperate man Dy. He took away people's children, they eloped. It was only a few months before Dylan's parents finally found them. Anastasia is returned to Jogja to her parents' house, while Dawei is sent back to Taiwan. By having Dawei accept an arranged marriage with me, I don't know why either.
Dawei is a good man, she tells her past before we got married. He said, he will not be able to forget his first love and his first wife, nor does he guarantee to love me. Funny thing is I fell in love with him, with the honesty and determination of the man. Although in the end I was not in his heart, until the last breath. And I also helped to find Anastasia.
Silence alone, only the sound of Mayleen and the rustling of leaves caressed by the wind, were heard. Juminten and her husband were silent without a word, though their hearts raged over Mayleen's story. Moreover, Dylan, he did not expect that Papa who he respected so much, was not what he thought.
"Dawei tried to find the whereabouts of Anastasia, but to no avail, we did it in secret. We've been trying to find Anastasia, although it continues to lead to a dead end. Our movements were severely restricted, all closely monitored by the father-in-law. We are banned from returning to Indonesia, so we only rely on information from Dawei's friends who are here. The last news we got was the passing of Anastasia.
Mayleen turned her eyes away from the window. Look at his son's face with a stern look.
"In the presence of you diverting his world, Dawei slowly began to rise from his slump."Mayleen wiped away the tears that escaped without excuse.
"Even though you are not his flesh and blood," Mayleen's soul niche ached as she spoke this truth, there was a great fear covering her heart.
Dylan's eyes bought wide, like lightning striking through the day. A feeling of tightness infiltrated the chest along with his joints that felt weak.
"Kanda," said Juminten, now his hands clasped tightly Dylan's hands that had escaped from his grasp.
"I'm not Papa's son, then am I Ma's son?"
Mayleen shook her head." Mama's womb is troubled, Son, until whenever Mama will not be able to have children. Mama adopted you when you were four, you were the little angel who stole Mama's attention."
Dylan turned his face away for an instant while stomping his breath, his heart so sorely accepting the fact that he was only a stranger in the Li family.
The slender man let go of Juminten's hand that was holding him, he got up from the sofa. Walk quickly out of the room.
"Dylan, where are you going, son?!" Mayleen was about to get up from her seat, as Dylan walked past her.
Dylan raised his hand, hinting that he didn't want to say anything at this moment. Mayleen again sat down, this is what she was most afraid of. She was very afraid that Dylan would hate her and stay away from her, but Mayleen also did not want any misunderstanding between the foster child and the daughter of her husband's first wife.
Dylan took a quick step, leaving the mother who was crying in silence.
"Kanda ... Kanda!" Call Juminten who's been ignored by Dylan.
The man's move swung quickly, overwhelming Juminten to follow him. Dylan's hands clenched, angry disappointed, sad all those feelings raged in his heart. The man's eyes narrowed it felt hot, clear circles fell just like that even though he tried to hold it.
"Ouch!"
Hearing the shrieking sound of pain his wife made Dylan stop his steps, he quickly turned around, approaching Juminten who was sitting on the floor.
"Where is sick? Where's?" Dylan flipped his wife's body.
"You're okay, right? Why are you so careless, what if something happens to you?" ask Dylan worried.
Juminten smiled instead, he hugged the body of the husband who was crouching in front of him.
"It's okay, everything will be fine" she whispered softly in the husband's ear.
Dylan's body went limp for a moment, and he sat on the floor. Dylan returned Juminten's embrace tightly, leaning his head completely on Juminten's shoulder.
Juminten could feel the body of the husband shaking, his shoulders wet with the tears of the husband. Juminten's hands incessantly stroked Dylan's back.
"I love you" whispered Juminten again.
