1.1 Preparation Before Writing a Novel

Reading is an absolute requirement to become a writer. If when reading, you can easily turn writing into a picture in your shadow, then you can be sure that you have a talent in writing online novels. If not, you can do it with a lot of practice. The way is simple, can by pouring several film clips into writing, practice several times can give a shadow to the author.

What do you need to do before you write a book?

First, determine the theme. Choose a theme that you are good at, such as the type of novel that you read often so that you can avoid a storyline that makes no sense, this will help in the development of the story in the future. If a student has never read a story about the world of work, and later writes a novel with a theme of the world of work, then there may be many errors in the logic of the story. If you want more people to see your novel, you also need to pay attention on different websites. Among those famous works, works with what kind of themes there are the most. The readers of each website come from different age groups so the tastes are definitely different. By knowing what kind of expectations and experiences the reader wants to get from a story, then you can attract readers. This section will be discussed in detail in the next chapter.

After the theme is determined, next is the determination of the title of the book and pen name. The title of this book is actually very important. The first should not be too long, tiring to read, not easy to find, and not necessarily the same as other titles, and should be able to attract the attention of people immediately. For a writer, the selection of a pen name is very important, both in publicity and in communicating with readers. When choosing a pen name, things to consider, among others, are pleasant to hear, readable, easy to remember, easy to pronounce, do not use the homophone of a forbidden word, and try a little maybe use words that are foreign and difficult to say.

The next step is the design. First, determine the most important choice in a work, namely the male or female protagonist. Next, find the antagonist. The presence of this antagonist (enemy) is to highlight the other side of the protagonist so that it looks like the two characters have opposite characters. Then, the supporting characters. The role of the supporting characters is as a complement and to avoid overlapping between the two. Because, once there is overlap, the uniqueness of the character of the character will be reduced.

The character design is finished, the next is the main plot planning of the story. The main plot of the story can be divided into two types, namely light and dark, except for the protagonist whose main line should not be broken or broken. Other characters are much more free and flexible, can be set aside, disconnected, recombined, or swapped. In short, the main storyline surrounding that protagonist is the only one, while the other plot can be changed.

After the main line of the story, you can officially start the framework of the story. The role of the story frame can be understood as a map that guides direction when confused. It is necessary to write some important plots into the framework so as to facilitate the planning of the whole story while writing.

Second, we need to understand the basic structure of the novel.

In good works, there must be ups and downs in the story. Otherwise, the story would be very boring. In a framework, structure is a very important part.

Conflict here not only refers to conflict between characters, but is the first plot that needs to attract the eyes of the reader, can be a conflict of fights, can also be a romantic encounter. A flat storyline would definitely not achieve results like this. So, you should avoid writing stories that are too flat or have no ups and downs. If at the beginning of the story has lost a lot of readers, the achievement of the novel is certainly not too good.

For example, you write about a female protagonist who is looking for a job and then gets accepted to work. A story like this would be a little boring. However, if you write a story about a female protagonist who is looking for a job, then she is ridiculed and framed by another character, but the female protagonist uses her ingenuity so that she passes the interview, stories like this can attract readers.

Development can be understood as paving the way for a big climax. Like a spring, the harder the pressure, the higher the reflection. The same goes for the novel. The more difficult the obstacles or dangers faced by the protagonist, then when this character successfully passes through the problem, this will make the reader feel very satisfied. The better the basis for development, the more it can arouse the reader's emotions at the climax.

The small climax is to give the reader some initial satisfaction, such as a first date between a female protagonist who secretly likes a male protagonist, or a perpetually bullied female protagonist starting to fight back.

After a small climax, the next plot is usually added foreshadowing. Its function here is to make the reader wonder what new story will happen next. So that after being satisfied to read the big climax, the reader does not leave the story just like that.

The meaning of the big climax is easy to understand. Compared to a small climax, a large climax needs to arouse the reader's emotions. For example, the female protagonist and the male protagonist have been in a relationship and become lovers, the antagonists who are the female protagonists have received rewards, and there is no chance to wake up again.

Novels with complete structure, solid rhythm, complete and smooth story, can retain the reader better.
