Joining the Medical Team

The morning arrived with the brightness of the sunlight that shone on the headquarters of the medical team in Palestine. Vienna is excited and ready to begin its first assignment as a volunteer in this humanitarian mission. He wore a full medical uniform and tidied himself up before joining the rest of the team in the meeting area.

Vienna arrived at the meeting area, where members of the medical team had gathered. They stand in a circular formation, with Dr. Layla in the middle as the leader of the medical team.

Dr. Layla: "Good morning, everybody. Today is an important day in our humanitarian mission. We have a new member, Vienna, who will assist us in providing medical assistance to Palestinians in need. Let's welcome him warmly."

Members of the medical team applauded and gave a welcome smile to Vienna. He feels well received and feels increasingly motivated to give his best.

Viennese: "Thank you all. I am very happy to join this team and provide assistance to the Palestinians."

Dr. Layla then gives a brief explanation of the duties and responsibilities of each team member. They are divided into groups, including those who will work in temporary medical clinics, who will conduct emergency medical missions to affected areas, and who will provide health education to residents.

After the explanation was completed, Vienna joined a group that would work in a temporary medical clinic. They were preparing to go to the clinic, which is located in an area severely affected by the conflict.

Vienna nodded and felt ready for her task. They began to work attentively, cleaning the wounds and giving the needed medicines to the patients. Vienna spoke to several patients, trying to provide some comfort with a smile and encouraging words.

While talking to a Palestinian woman waiting to be examined, Vienna heard a heartwarming personal story. The woman, named Fatima, told of how her family was forced to flee their home and live in temporary tents. Fatima has two young children who need medical treatment.

Vienna: "We will do our best to help you and your children, Fatima. You are not alone in this fight."

Fatima smiled sincerely and thanked Vienna. The meeting left a deep impression on Vienna and made it even more motivated to provide assistance to Palestinians.

In the midst of a busy day at the clinic, Vienna and the rest of the medical team spoke to each other with enthusiasm and passion. They share experiences, learn from each other, and create a close bond.

As the day ended, they returned to the medical team headquarters with a sense of relief for providing much-needed assistance to the Palestinians. Vienna feels that he is already part of this medical team and together they can achieve a lot in their humanitarian efforts.

As Vienna continued to work in temporary medical clinics, she became increasingly familiar with daily routines and the surrounding community. Despite the simple medical clinic conditions, the atmosphere inside was full of passion and cooperation. Vienna and his team are working to provide medical assistance as effectively as possible to the patients who come.

One blistering day, as Vienna was waiting for her next patient, she saw an 8-year-old Palestinian boy standing outside the clinic. The boy had bright brown eyes and dark hair that was out of control. He looked at Vienna and smiled amiably.

Vienna smiled back and nodded as a token of greeting. The boy, later identified as Omar, hesitantly approached.

Omar: "Assalaamu'alaikum's chat. I'm Omar."

Omar: "I'm good. I'm glad to see a new guy here."

Viennese: "I'm also happy to meet you, Omar. What are you doing here?"

Omar: "I'm waiting for my sister. She's sick and mom took her to the clinic."

Vienna felt sympathy for Omar and his family circumstances. He saw several colorful plastic balls lying near Omar.

Vienna: "Do you like to play ball, Omar?"

Omar: "Yes! I love playing ball."

Vienna smiled and glanced around the medical clinic. He sees some colleagues who are on break and decides to try to make Omar's day better.

Vienna: "What if we play ball for a while, Omar? I'm sure the friends here will also be happy to join."

Omar looked around with sparkling eyes. "really?"

Vienna nodded. "Sure, let's play together."

They picked up one of those plastic balls and started playing on an empty field next to a medical clinic. Vienna and Omar ran around and threw the ball at each other. Vienna involved several co-workers who took part in the play, and soon the field became a merry place amid the suffering that plagued the area.

While playing, Vienna realized that language was not always a barrier. Even if they speak different languages, smiles, actions, and body language are enough to understand each other. Omar looked very happy, and Vienna felt warm in her heart at the sight of her smile.

As the game ended, Omar sat down beside Vienna to rest. They are surrounded by patients and medical clinic staff who participate in watching their games. Vienna was moved by the support and joy that was presented by her surroundings.

Omar: "Thank you for playing with me, Vienna. I'm happy."

Vienna: "Thank you, Omar. I am also happy to play with you. May your sister recover soon."

Moments later, Omar's mother comes out of the medical clinic with her little sister who looks better. They joined hands, and Omar immediately ran up to them with a happy smile.

Omar's mother: "Thank you, Vienna. You've given Omar happiness. We're very grateful."

Vienna was delighted to be able to bring happiness to Omar's family and recalled how a simple ball game could bring a smile to a child's face in the midst of difficult conditions. He felt that in the midst of conflict and suffering, there was still room for happiness and friendship.

As the sun begins to set and the time to return home, Vienna feels that her encounter with Omar has created a sincere bond of friendship, and she hopes to continue playing soccer with Omar at a later time.
