Vienna is a girl who has reached adolescence, but her life feels very different from most other teenagers. He was born to a Muslim family, with parents who had abundant wealth. However, despite having Islam as its official religion in ID cards, this religion is just a formal label in their lives.
His parents, who were wealthy businessmen, never taught him about religious practices, especially prayer. His parents only prayed when they could. Vienna only knew about the theory of prayer from religious studies in schools, but never did.
Everyday, Vienna often gathers with friends who also come from rich families. They often talk about mundane things, such as clothes, bags, and luxury cars. Their lives are full of parties, social gatherings, and expensive entertainment. They rarely think about religion or spiritual values.
One day, Vienna and her friends were sitting in a fancy cafe in a shopping mall. They are busy talking about their vacation plans abroad and how much money they will spend on shopping during the trip. Vienna tried to smile and join in their conversation, but in her heart, she felt that something was lacking.
Azan reverberated with melodious, welcoming the time of Dhuhr prayer that had arrived. The voice of the azaan was heard from a hardener attached to a small surau tower that stood across the street from the cafe where Vienna and his friends were sitting. Suddenly, the atmosphere around them changed.
From the window of the cafe, they could see how people started flocking towards the surau. Some people walk fast while carrying their prayer mats, while others run around a little to not miss prayer time. Some of the little ones even ran around cheerfully towards the surau, as if they were looking forward to this moment happily.
That sight, for some reason, made Vienna's heart full. He felt that there was something very special in this moment. The more people who move towards the surau, the more profound his feelings become. It was as if there was such a powerful call in his heart, even though he had yet to fully understand it.
That dawn, usually Vienna was still sound asleep, for some reason he woke up. Vienna sat on the edge of the bed in her quiet room. Her loose-fitting nightgown had been hung on the closet door, and she was sitting awkwardly on the cool floor. He felt something was different in him this morning, like there was an impulse in him that made him want to do something he had never done before.
He looked at the floor with a thoughtful expression. Suddenly, she felt like someone was pulling her to stand up. His heart was pounding as he tried to get up. Vienna moved towards the bathroom with hesitant steps. There was plenty of water there, as he had seen so often in his life. But this morning, it was something different for him.
He washed both his hands carefully, shivering slightly as cool water flowed between his fingers. After he finished washing his hands, he picked them up and rinsed. But right then and there, when the first drop of water touched his lips, Vienna could not help but feel the overflow from his heart.
The ablution water was like touching a sensitive point within him. When he first felt it, he felt a tenderness, presence, and sense of peace that he had never felt before. He felt himself touched by something much bigger than himself. The water of ablution that flowed in his hands, also in the murmur of his mouth as if opening his inner eyes, reminded him of the greatness of Almighty God.
Not yet able to continue the next pillar of ablution, Vienna began to cry, unable to resist her deep cries. Her cries were filled with a mixture of regret, longing, and a desire to draw closer to God. He felt ashamed and guilty because he had never prayed, never sought religious knowledge, and never understood the true meaning of Islam.
But at the same time, her cries also contained new hope and determination. He felt that this morning was the beginning of a change in his life. He wanted to learn, to understand, and to deepen his religion. He wants to live a more meaningful life and get closer to God.
Vienna returned to her room with her finished ablution, still with tears in her eyes. He sat on the edge of the bed and started talking to himself, "I know I've been wrong all along. I know I have not practiced my religion properly. But I want to fix myself. I want to learn and know God better. I want to pray."
The natural atmosphere around the story also changed along with the journey of Vienna in living his religion. At first, when he felt confused and separated from God, the surrounding nature felt lonely and gloomy. However, along with the changes within him, the surrounding nature also seemed to change.
As he researched deeper through the internet, he felt something different, something that could not be explained in words. However, he did not know where to start. "Maybe I have to find the answer here" he murmured to himself. He typed the keyword 'meaning ablution in Islam' in the search engine and waited for the results.
As time passed, answers began to appear on his computer screen. The articles he found provided a deeper understanding of the meaning of ablution in Islam. Wudhu, it turns out, is more than just a ritual of physical cleansing. It is a spiritual act that symbolizes purity and self-preparation before worshiping God. Vienna was impressed by this explanation.
However, there were still many things he had to learn. He looked for other articles explaining prayer, one of the main worship in Islam. He read about the five daily prayers, the prayer movements, and the importance of prayer in the life of a Muslim. All of this was new information for Vienna, and she felt increasingly enamored by a religion she had rarely explored before.
Suddenly, the door to her room slowly opened, and her mother walked in. The dressing table in the corner of the room that was usually used by his mother to dress up, is now used as a place for Vienna to seek religious knowledge. His mother, Sarah, is a beautiful and elegant woman who often looks busy with business affairs.
Sarah looked at her daughter with astonished eyes. "Vienna, what are you doing?"
Vienna looked over and smiled gently. "Mother, I'm looking for information about Islam and ablution. I feel the need to understand our religion better."
Sarah is shocked by her daughter's decision, but she feels proud of her intentions. "That's a good move, baby. Religion is an important part of our lives. Why are you suddenly interested?"
Vienna explained her experience that morning, how the ablution water that touched her made her feel different. He also shared his strong feelings about the call in his heart to draw closer to God. Sarah listened attentively, feeling moved by the change in her daughter.
"Darling, I have been very supportive of you on this journey" Sarah said softly. "You don't have to feel alone. I'll look up books on Islam and help you learn more."
Vienna smiled happily. "Thank you, Mother. I really want to understand and live our religion well."
Over the next days, Vienna and her mother began to study together. They read religious books, listen to online lectures, and even go to the local mosque to take religious classes. During this time, their relationship grew closer, and Vienna felt grateful to have the support of her mother.
The natural atmosphere around their homes reflects the changes in Viennese life. The once-empty and abandoned park begins to get treatment. Sarah and Vienna often take walks in the park, talking about religion and the meaning of life. The trees that once seemed dead, now began to green and bloom beautifully.
Vienna not only gained an understanding of Islam, but also gained a spiritual depth that made it feel more alive than ever before. He began to feel closeness to God in every prayer he did, in every prayer movement he made. And his spiritual journey will still continue, taking him on meaningful adventures and deeper self-discovery.
